Das Boot

gayCheck out this hilarious video.  I’m at complete loss for words, but this is absolutely hilarious and worth the watch.  It is 100% safe for work provided a handsome bare chested man singing / talking with a German accent is not offensive to you and those around you.

Believe it or not, I think this may actually be a real product.

BosGuy makes hummus

hummusHummus is an easy to make and affordable dip or spread from the Middle East. I like the fact that you can make it in 10 minutes and need not use a single pan. Moreover, it’s nutritious – high in iron and vitamins C and B6 as well as a good source of protein and dietary fiber.

You should be able to buy all the ingredients necessary to make enough hummus to serve for four people for approximately $10. Ingredients include:

1 16oz. can of garbanzo beans / chickpeas
1 red onion
1/4 cup of liquid from can of garbanzo beans / chickpeas
2-3 tablespoons of olive oil
2 garlic cloves
1+ tablespoon of tahini
Pinch of salt
Pinch of cumin
The juice from half a lemon

making hummusThe process could not be more simple.  Add the ingredients into a food processor and blend until they are fully mixed. You may be tempted to omit the tahini and cumin if you don’t have this in your cupboards, but it is the combination of these ingredients that really provide the flavor associated with hummus and you’ll do yourself a disservice so don’t substitute these.

Optional: For garnish you may include finely chopped chives. The green coloring and flavoring really enhances the spread.

Entitlement, Texas style

TexasFunny how government is always too intrusive, too big,  and completely inept in the mind of far too many conservatives, yet when they disagree with something (let’s say marriage equality) they have no issue legislating how you should live or in this case after a horrible tragedy like what happened last week in Texas, Federal aid can’t seem to arrive fast enough.

Sadly, the hypocrisy on display by Governor Rick Perry (TX) and that state’s US Senators goes far beyond Texas. This just happens to be the latest example.

Don’t be a dumb ass

dumb assWe’ve all done things at times that make us scratch our head and say “What was I thinking?” Then there are those among us who consistently make poor choices.  Don’t be a dumb ass. Life can be tough enough without going out of your way to make it harder on yourself and those around you.

Since my Mom always tried her best to end her critiques with a positive statement, it does appear that dumb or not, this guy does have a nice ass.  Won’t Mom be so proud of me.

Gun control rant

Gun controlOne week ago today the US Senate failed to muster the 60 votes needed for the Manchin-Toomey amendment; falling four votes shy. The amendment called for background checks on all commercial sales of guns; polling suggests nearly 90% of the American public support this issue.  Outraged, I posted the names of all those US Senators who voted “No” in my blog post, here

Since that time my outrage has grown. There is not a single aspect of any American’s life that doesn’t require some degree of “background checks” but it seems with the sole exception of buying a gun. So I’ve started to compile a list of things that we all do which either require a background check, signing in to a registry or have some form of “reporting” to ensure we are who we say we are.

  • Applying for work
  • Applying for a loan, credit card / bank account
  • Buying a home or renting an apartment
  • Cashing a check
  • Flying on a commercial airline
  • Purchasing alcohol
  • Visiting a sick friend or loved one at a hospital
  • Walking into almost any office building in the US

Where else are we required to show identification, write our name on to a registry or subject ourselves to a background check?  Pulling together this list only highlights the hypocrisy of those opposed to this common sense approach.

How animals eat their food

I think my favorite is when he imitates a Tyrannosaurus Rex eats its food.  This is hilarious.  Much thanks to America Blog for posting this and bringing it to my attention.  Perhaps tonight you’d like to eat your dinner the way your favorite animal eats – then again maybe not.

Shame on Senator Kelly Ayotte – NH

Gun ControlI know that I have a fair number of readers who reside in New Hampshire so I wanted to take a moment to express my dismay at the lack of Sen. Ayotte’s leadership by siding with the NRA and helping to kill the Manchin-Toomey legislation that would have asked for basic background checks for individuals looking to purchase a firearm. It is clear that she supports the NRA rather than the will of NH voters who overwhelmingly support this legislation.

I urge you to contact Sen. Ayotte to express your frustration on Twitter @KellyAyotte or you may go to her Facebook page Kelly Ayotte.

You can see what other cowards voted against this legislation here.

This month the Punch Bowl fund will be featuring:
