Zipcar has a fleet of new Honda Insights with a unique accessory: For each hour they are on the road, the company will donate $1 worth of free drive time to to GLAAD, a national LGBT advocacy group.

Gay ski weekend: Stowe, VT Jan. 22-26, 2014
Is this too soon? Sorry, if you are still savoring the last few weeks of summer, but last month New England’s version of gay ski week announced they are now taking reservations.
Locally, this event is known as the Winter Rendez-Vous and it takes place in Stowe, Vermont early next year, January 22-26, 2014.

Are you looking for someplace a little different for you and your partner that is off the beaten path in London? Whether you live in this amazing city or are planning a visit, consider one of these suggestions to plan a special night out.
Soho Square
Soho Square offers everything from a nice picnic and shopping to raves at the Village Bar or Admiral Duncan. The Village was one of the first of its kind in London and the Admiral Duncan has become a symbol of gay strength and pride in London’s history. Take your date to both for a wickedly sexy time in Soho.
Rich Mix Centre
Rich Mix Centre is in the art-driven community of Shoreditch. The Rich Mix Centre includes exhibits, festivals, music, dancing, and more. Check out performance artist Tom Mashman’s show on Sept. 7th at 2 PM, Lost Gay Cockneys: An LGBT History Tea Party. Following the event, explore the Rich Mix Centre.
Bateaux London
Bateaux London offers both afternoon tea and dinner cruises that show you sights along the Thames, while enjoying tea, sandwiches, pastries, and scones. You will also enjoy musical entertainment while you escape the hustle and bustle of the city. A dinner cruise offers a romantic view of London at night.
Two Brewers
Check out Two Brewers on Clapham High Street in South London. This is an exciting and friendly gay bar with a mixed clientele. The club is a happening place to go for music, dancing, and people watching. There is also a VIP area and Cabaret bar. Check their website because they often have special events.
Naked Boys
One of the most unique gay events in London is Naked Boys Reading. Enjoy the dramatic / enticing readings at their next event Dream on Sept. 6, and Dirtbox on Sept. 7. If those dates don’t work check out their facebook page or plan to attend one of their open-mic nights where you can impress your date by reciting some of your own poetry or music.
Should you find yourself without a date, check out these locations with a friend or check out one of the popular online dating sites like the Gay Network to line up a fun night out for your first date together.

Gay ol’ Philadelphia
Last week The Greater Philadelphia Tourism Corp shared their second commercial targeting the LGBT community to celebrate their 10th anniversary of their award-winning campaign, “Philadelphia Get Your History Straight and Your Nightlife Gay”
The humorous video features the ever so popular, Miss Richfield 1981 taking selfie’s in places of interest in Philadelphia. I’d love to see Boston create something like this to welcome LGBT travelers.

Tales of the City: 20th Anniversary edition
Today, Acorn releases Tales of the City: 20th Anniversary Edition. I can distinctly remember watching this series in secret while in my parent’s home. It was one of those very rare moments – as a kid growing up in a somewhat rural setting – when I realized there were other guys out there who liked guys.
Growing up, I was led to believe my attraction to men was either a phase that some experience or a mental disorder that if pursued would lead to a dismal life in the shadows and likely to end, dying of AIDS. Boy, we’ve come a long way.
dBar tea dance
This past Sunday dBar in Dorchester hosted the third annual summer sports Tea Dance and by the looks of it, the event was a smashing success. The patio was packed like sardines and inside the dance floor was crowded all evening long thanks to the great music played by disc jockey, Gay Jim from KISS 108 FM.

Kristof Buntinx designs underwear protesting Russian LGBT laws
Russian designer, Kristoff Buntinx, is launching a new line of boxer underwear to protest Russia’s homophobic laws that essentially make being gay illegal. His designs blend the LGBT rainbow with Russian symbols as a way to poke fun at the laws and allow Russians a private way to protest laws without risking jail sentences.
Called “From Russia With Love”, Buntix is now working with photographer Herman Van Gestel to create a gay themed calendar of men in the boxers that they hope to release in late September.

Wentworth Miller comes out
“Prison Break” star Wentworth Miller — long rumored to be gay — officially came out of the closet today, in a letter to the St. Petersburg International Film Festival declining an invitation to appear there, citing Russia’s recent rash of laws essentially criminalizing homosexuality. Good for you Wentworth.
Dick of the week: International Amateur Athletic Federation
Emma Green Tregaro, the Swedish athlete who painted her fingernails the colors of the rainbow to show support for gay rights last week was forced to re-paint her nails, after track and field’s governing body warned that her nails flouted its ban on political statements at events.
As the world championships concluded on Sunday, Russia’s minister of sport, Vitaly Mutko, said the freedoms of those who come to Sochi “will be absolutely protected.” But he also said, “We want to protect our children whose psyches have not formed from the propaganda of drug use, drunkenness and non-traditional sexual relations.”
My response to both the International Amateur Athletic Federation and Russia’s minister of sport is exactly the same. Perhaps you can figure out my “Wheel of Fortune” inspired response.
