Friday night at Pi Alley will be bearlicious

Bear WeekThe Alley in Boston will be jammed packed with guys on Friday as men from around the world fly into Boston today so they can take the morning ferry to Provincetown for the start of Bear Week on Saturday morning.

If you’ve never been or if it has been a while, head over to Downtown Crossing and check out the scene at Pi Alley located at 14 Pi Alley (just off of Washington Street and about one block from the State Street T station). Just beware a line starts forming early so it doesn’t pay to show up fashionably late.

What has been won in the courts can be taken away: LGBT rights

Becky Wegner RommelWith the recent US Supreme Court ruling in favor of marriage equality, many feel elated but the fact remains a lot of Americans remain sympathetic to Becky Wegner Rommel who appears in the video below and while her rant is probably the very definition of manic and easy to giggle at while watching – let’s remember this woman votes.

Becky’s bat-shit crazy rant should serve as a reminder that the 2016 Presidential election remains even more important to our community.

What has been won in the courts can be undone, and if Becky and those sympathetic to her get their way that is what will happen.  That’s why I don’t find this video funny.  I find it frightening.

Obama’s response to US Supreme Court ruling on marriage

If we are truly created equal then truly the love we must commit to each other is equal too.” – President Barack Obama

No longer is there such a thing as ‘gay marriage’ it is now simply marriage.  Yet, I can’t fathom how this may have played out or what kind of response a Republican President would have given.  I’m also bracing for the inevitable diatribe from those running in the Republican primary, but for this weekend I’m simply enjoying the moment and I hope that you will as well.

Marriage Equality pop up party in Boston at 6PM

marriage equalityAnd just in time for Pride Celebrations in San Francisco, Chicago and NYC the US Supreme Court delivers the news we’ve all been waiting to hear.  State bans on Same Sex Marriages are unconstitutional.  It has been a long road since the Massachusetts State Supreme Court mandated Massachusetts to allow same sex couples to marry in 2003, but it has been worth the wait.

NOTE THE PARTY NOW WILL START AT 7:30
AND WILL TAKE PLACE AT CLERY’S

The double standard for PDA when you are gay

gayEarlier this week Rich Hawkins who describes himself as a twenty something chap living in London wrote an article published on HuffingPost’s Gay Voices entitled, It’s Okay to Be Gay, Just Don’t Touch Each Other.

In the article he writes, “I have a long-term boyfriend who I live with and share my life with, yet I don’t hold his hand. We are consciously and subconsciously not tactile in public, and yet in private very loving and affectionate…” His article talks about the incredible changes in the general public’s attitude towards homosexuality over the past 20+ years and how this has allowed many of us to live a more authentic life.  However, the title and his assertion that gay is fine provided it remains a hypothetical and doesn’t exist in the form of PDA (public displays of affection) is a surprise to me.  I think nothing of holding Sergio’s hand when we are in public, but I know I wouldn’t do that just anywhere and am always conscious of my surroundings when we are in public and holding hands.

I’m sure we all edit our behavior but to what end?  Much of this is probably determined by where you live and how “out” you are.  For example, I don’t think anyone would feel uncomfortable holding hands in San Francisco’s Castro, Los Angeles West Hollywood or NYC’s Hell’s Kitchen, but how might you feel about embracing your significant other or holding hands in Peoria, IL?  What are your thoughts?

Ricky Gervais explains what privilege means

Ricky Gervais marriage equalityConsidering the US Supreme Court is expected to rule on Marriage Equality (again) in the coming weeks, and every Republican running for President inferring that gay rights are some how “special rights”, trampling upon individual religious freedoms, I thought it was time to revisit this quote from Ricky Gervais.
