Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen

Its no secret that I don’t really care for football. I actually time my weekly grocery run for the second half of New England Patriots games each Sunday to avoid crowds.  However, that doesn’t mean that I’m not attracted to and intrigued by Tom Brady and his supermodel/wife Gisele Bundchen.  Both live in Boston for part of the year. I remember being surprised a few years ago when I saw them in the South End (they were only dating back then), and I like that they are often out and about enjoying time together or with their family.

Both Tom and Gisele are extremely attractive and apparently Boston readers agree with me, because earlier this week The Boston Globe included numerous photos of the two of them in and around Boston.  The photo above is just one of the many they are featuring. If you are a fan or just plain intrigued you can see all the photos by linking here.

Andy Whitfield (1972-2011)

Andy Whitfield 1972 – 2011

Andy Whitfield, a Welsh actor and model, passed away at the age of 39 earlier this month.  Whitfield played the leading role in the Starz series, Spartacus: Gods of the Arena Blood and Sand (thanks Ace).  I was sorry when I first read he had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, but had assumed he’d make a full recovery.  Watching TV tonight I learned that he passed away while with his family on September 11th. He is survived by his wife and two children.  What a shame.

Ben & Jerry’s Schweddy Balls Ice Cream

Inspired by one of my all time favorite Saturday Night Live skits, Ben & Jerry’s is introducing for a limited time only Schweddy Balls Ice Cream.

Want to send your friends a “Schweddy Greeting Card” via Facebook – B&J’s makes it easy to do, simply link to their facebook page dedicated to the new ice cream here.

According to the website this flavor is Fair Trade vanilla ice cream with a hint of rum and loaded with fudge covered rum and milk chocolate malt balls. Damn that sounds good doesn’t it?

Darren Criss

I generally try to write about things that are of interest to me (although I’m not above pandering as my post Daddy Candy clearly shows). Sometimes the things I write about only resonate with me or a few others, but occasionally either my timing or point of view strikes a nerve with readers and results in a lot of attention.

Last November I posted an entry, Every (gay) teenagers dream: Darren Criss. The posting simply states that Criss is a character on the popular television show, Glee. I share some facts about Darren that I pulled from IMDB and posted a link to an earlier post I wrote called Serenading Kurt: Teenage Dream.

In my mind, its a fairly innocuous posting but every week it remains one of my most visited, and I’ve finally figured out why. If you google “Darren Criss” my little post appears near the bottom of the first page. Now how’d that happen? I’d love to have that pull with some other issues and posts. Any bloggers have any pearls of wisdom to share for this novice?

Get outta my way

With most of Boston Pride activities shifting into high gear for the weekend, I figured I would add some Kylie to the mix. Her concert this past April had all the excitement of a Pride event. How cool would that be to see her during your home city’s Pride celebration?

Mark Wahlberg filming "Ted" (part 2)

Earlier this week I mentioned that Seth McFarlane (creator of The Family Guy) is filming in the neighborhood with local boy, Mark Wahlberg, and Mila Kunis. While filming will continue throughout Boston and much of the South End, they were able to capture the scenes they needed out in front of my apartment.

Last night Sergio joined a throng of onlookers as they filmed another scene. They had to film this at night, but it is a day scene so they had the entire block filled with giant lights flooding the streets with artificial sunlight.

Mark Wahlberg filming "Ted"

Movie Director Seth McFarlane is filming outside my apartment for his movie Ted, which stars both Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis. This movie has been filming in Boston and in particular the South End for the past few months, but tonight they are filming a “day” scene at Gaslight. For those who have read my blog for awhile you may recall this restaurant was used for several weeks in the fall of 2009 for the Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz film “Wichita” which was later renamed Knight & Day.

Its not clear to me if Mark or Mila will be appearing tonight. I had hoped I would be able to capture some photos of the stars like I did of Tom & Cameron, but it seems unlikely so instead I’ve posted a picture of the view outside my window. If something more exciting manifests, I’ll be sure to share.

Kylie Minogue US Aphrodite Tour: Boston

Growing up in Boston has afforded me the opportunity to see nearly any musical act I’d like. Pop stars of all kinds at some point tour the US and a date (or dates) in Boston are almost always included. Kylie Minogue was an exception to this – that is until last night when her Aphrodite tour came to Boston. Ms Minogue started her North American tour earlier in the week in Montreal, but Boston was / is the first US city and she wasted no time acknowledging that to the crowds delight. However, I’m getting a bit ahead of myself…For those from outside the US, you may find it hard to believe, but Kylie Minogue is still a musician with very little name recognition. If she is known at all it would be more as a 1-hit wonder despite having a couple of hits here in the US (notably The loco-motion, Spinning around and Can’t get you out of my head). The exception to this, would be with the gay community which seems to know nearly every song she’s released, and every word to those songs. Kylie often stopped singing during her songs to let the crowd which was 80-90% gay men (a conservative estimate on my part) sing along to the songs. She plays several notable covers among my favorite was There must be an angel by the Eurythmics (but there are other gems included through out that both surprised and added to the show). If you’d like to see her set list for this tour you can check that out here. The crowd was already whipped into a frenzy by the time Kylie stepped on stage, but the energy level never really dipped or dropped at least not from where I was standing (some 10 rows back from the stage). Thank you Kylie for coming to Boston – I certainly hope you’ll pay us a visit again. Included below are a few more pictures from the show as well as a video of a song I’m sure you’ll recognize.

And finally, just a teaser of what you can expect if you are lucky enough to see Kylie on her US tour. This is from her Boston performance on Friday, April 29th.

Tonight:Kylie in Boston

See you there

Boys of Boston: Britney Spears, (Drop Dead) Beautiful

Shot in the South End and over at dBar its a cute homage to Ms. Britney Spears. I have to admit I feel lucky to be in a city with so many handsome guys.

Thanks David over at WGB for the tip.

Ab Fab starts filming this August

I know that there have been reports similar to this in the past, but The Daily Mail is reporting (and The BBC has confirmed) that Absolutely Fabulous will be returning. Apparently filming starts this August.

I absolutely love Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley characters and the ridiculous situations they find themselves in on this show.

According to Lumley’s interview in HELLO magazine, she says, “We fast-forwarded to where they’re (Edina and Patsy) very old and nearly dead and practically plugged into vodka machines, it doesn’t matter how beyond [the original series] we do it.”

All I can say is “Fabulous, sweetie darling”.

Sexy Josey Greenwell covers Britney Spears: I Wanna Go

Josey is both easy on the eyes and does an impressive acoustic cover of Britney Spears “I Wanna Go”… Damn the kid can whistle. You can follow Josey on Twitter here, JoseyGreenwell.

Thanks for the tip acuteguySF.

Useless news from Chelsea Handler

Who says that Chelsea Handler’s show is not educational? Tonight she shared this late breaking news. The Maine State Senate has agreed to allow them one-armed residents to carry switchblades. According to news service Reuters this will “eliminate a need for one-armed people to be forced to open folding knives with their teeth in emergencies”.

The knives will, however, be limited to a blade three inches or shorter, in keeping with a federal flick knife law which delightfully “allows their use by a person with one arm only on federal property if the blade is shorter than three inches”. You can read the full story here.

Thank you Chelsea Handler for sharing this useless tidbit of news.

I’m f*cking Matt Damon

Do you remember this Sarah Silverman / Matt Damon video? I thought this was brilliant. Jimmy Kimmel (Sarah’s boyfriend at the time) showed his wit by quickly creating his own video, I’m f*cking Ben Affleck, which was equally funny.

If you’ve never watched the video – no fears this is the edited version. If you want, you can watch the uncensored version here.

Kylie Minogue Boston show on sale today

Kylie Minogue tickets went on sale this morning for her Boston show on Friday, April 29th. Needless to say, since my friend Andy purchased tickets I haven’t been able to get her out of my head. Its fair to say I’m spinning around.

Okay, I’ll stop with the play on words with Kylie lyrics. I’m no longer in high school. This should be a blast, she’s playing at the Agganis Arena at Boston University. If you like Kylie (and let’s be frank – who doesn’t?) check and see if tickets remain.
