Things that make BosGuy go hmm…

Cape CodHoly Crap!

It’s bad enough the movie Jaws which was filmed not far from here gave me nightmares as a kid, but a jump in the seal population has brought Great White sharks back to the coastline of Cape Cod.

Swimmers in Cape Cod were allowed back into the water this past Sunday after a great white shark sighting closed a popular beach. The shark was spotted ~100 yards off Nauset Beach in Orleans. For those unfamiliar with the local geography, Orleans is not the next town over, but its close enough to Provincetown to make me queasy. Curious about this story you can read more here.

Poop happens

I’m at a loss for this public service announcement. Who knew that tossing poop was such a big problem in Belfast?Boston Guy

I suppose after reading this I won’t complain that its Monday morning. Apparently it could be worse, a lot worse. I could’ve had poo thrown at me when I went out to get my morning cup of coffee.

Speak up for those with no voice

Imagine if it were illegal for you to be you

My friend, David, from Frenchie and the Yankee blog brought this video to my attention, and I wanted to use my blog to help spread the word.  Presently 78 countries persecute people for being gay; in five of those countries the maximum penalty is death.

It should never be a crime to be gay

Photos from Ptown: 4th of July

While the bears have invaded Provincetown this week, last week saw tens of thousands of club kids in Ptown.  Here are a few of the many images from last week.  As you can see it was hot and sunny making for a great week and a lot of fun.

Ptown

Parties in Provincetown start early. The first photo to the left shows what the Boatslip looked like by 12pm as many flock here to relax beside  Provincetown Harbor while listening to music, sipping cocktails and socializing with friends.Ptown

Temperatures soared into the low and mid 90s most of the week making Provincetown an ideal location.  A steady ocean breeze helped to keep everyone cool, but even still shirts remained optional for most.Ptown

Of course the Hat Sisters – Boston icons in the gay scene – did not disappoint with their one of a kind hats designed for each public appearance. Ptown

Coco Peru: There Comes A Time

ProvincetownCoco Peru performed in Provincetown last week.  She has since moved on to Rehoboth Beach where she will be performing on Wednesday, July 11th.

We attended her show on Thursday, July 5th in Provincetown, but we received a sneak peek at Ryan Landry’s weekly talent show, ShowGirls.  Due to recent drama between Ryan Landry and the owner of the Crown & Anchor (ShowGirls previous home) the show had been moved to The Pied.  The venue was tight to say the least and the acoustics left a lot to be desired so apologies for the background noise.

Enjoy Coco’s take on the Mormon Church and her theory on why there are so many “out” gay men in Australia.Note: this is a bonus track and not part of Coco Peru’s There Comes A Time show.

Bear Semen: The Manliest Drink on Earth

Boston GuyIt is Bear Week in Provincetown so I’ll be including a bonus “Bear themed” post each day this week. Last year I stumbled upon this drink which claims to be The Manliest Drink on Earth.

I have to wonder if the bars in Provincetown will be serving this rather interesting refreshment.

Men of Twitter

Since the fall of 2010 each Monday I have posted profiles of men (mostly gay – but not always) who have caught my attention and I’ve enjoyed following on Twitter. I’ve called this weekly post the “Men of Twitter”.

While I remain active on Twitter, I’m finding it difficult to find guys who are available and open to being featured and have recently reverted to featuring prominent profiles of celebrities, activists and politicians, which was never the real intent of this weekly post.

I’m temporarily suspending this post, but I’d love to hear from you and welcome suggestions of men on Twitter you’d like to see featured.

Posh on Tremont to be replaced by local bank

The space formerly occupied by Posh on Tremont, a South End gift shop that closed their doors earlier this year, will not remain vacant for long.   Cambridge Savings Bank has signed a long-term lease and will convert the space in the coming months.

I was sorry to see Posh on Tremont close their doors but I’m even more sorry to learn they will be replaced by a bank. I recognize that banks, mortgage and real estate companies deserve the same opportunity as other businesses but there are already three banks within one block.  With another bank rumored to go into the soon to be built condos at 518 Tremont that would mean there will be five banks in one block. It is just my opinion, but another local business would have been far more preferable.

Congratulations Rep. Barney Frank and Jim Ready

Massachusetts US Congressman, Barney Frank, married his long-time partner, Jim Ready, in a reception along the Charles River yesterday.  The marriage marks another first for our Congressman who became the  first to be married to a partner of the same sex.

According to the report in The Boston Globe, vows written by the couple, included pledges to love each other “on MSNBC or on Fox”.

Congratulations Barney & Jim

4th of July in Provincetown

Last Wednesday was the 4th of July.  My partner and I opted to escape the heat of Boston and spend the week in Provincetown.  Lucky for us (and half of Boston or so it seemed) Brian Piccini – owner of dBar and DeuxAve – hosted a fantastic party at his house in Provincetown, which has a beautiful view of Provincetown Harbor. Listed below are some photos from his Independence Day bash. Thank you to all those who posed for a picture. And thank you Brian for the invite. Brian PicciniBrian PicciniBrian PicciniBrian PicciniBrian Piccini

Men who exercise increase their testosterone levels

Are you struggling to get yourself to the gym and remain active?  Last week a new study reported in The Daily News linked weight loss with an increase in testosterone and sex drive for middle-aged men.

The study found that men who incorporated two-and-a-half hours of exercise a week into their lives, as well as eating healthier food, saw dramatic results in the course of a year. There was a 15% increase in testosterone levels and a 46% decrease in instances of hypogonadism, a condition characterized by low testosterone levels that can be linked to low sex drive and erectile dysfunction, according to Mayo Clinic.

Mitt Romney perfects the art of the “flip flop”

Mitt RomneyUpworthy has launched a Tumblr site called, “Mitt, Venn and Now.” I thought the diagram above was particularly telling. However, there are quite a few more which you may peruse by visiting the tumblr site linked above for your viewing pleasure.

Thanks to Chris @MITguy01 for tweeting about this site.

Hide your honey… Bear week starts

Provincetown Bear Week2012 Bear Week in Provincetown officially starts today.  If you are heading to Ptown for the week, enjoy your time and have plenty of fun.

The Marc Jacobs shop is ready for the expected crowds. Before the 4th of July theme week had ended they had already added these two guys out in front of their shop on Commercial Street.  I predict more than a few will pause to have their photograph taken with these guys.

I call these two buddies “da bears”.Provincetown Bear Week

Letters to Cleo: Here and Now

One reason I love Boston is because it has an amazing music scene. Something about having more than 60 colleges and universities within a 30 mile radius of Boston probably has something to do with that.

In the 1990s I loved this local band and saw them more than a few times. The band has since gone its separate ways, but I still love ’em.

Provincetown: Bear Week

Immediately following 4th of July Week is Bear Week in Provincetown.  The two weeks could not be more different as twinks, circuit boys and others will file out on Saturday, July 7th and burly, hairy men arrive.

I stumbled upon this excellent YouTube video from Provincetown’s Bear Week 2011.  It is worth watching.  TorontoKub did a great job pulling this together, and if you identify as a bear, cub, otter (whatever) I think the video will make you smile and perhaps even consider booking a trip to Ptown for Bear Week 2013.
