It is Bear Week in Provincetown and the other day was Jesse Jackman’s birthday. This Boston muscle bear makes for the perfect Furry Friday. Don’t you agree? Happy birthday Jesse.

Past Furry Friday

BosGuy brain teaser

riddle, exercise for your brain

Each Friday, I post a riddle to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain. If you are stumped, share it with a friend or colleague and see if you can figure out the answer together.

Leave your answer in the comment section. I’ll approve responses later in the day to give people a chance to respond without seeing any spoilers.

Vintage gay

This photo of Edvard Munch painting naked on the beach at Warnemunde, Germany dates back to the early 1900′s. While the Norwegien’s sexual orientation is ambiguous, he did certainly seem to enjoy painting the male nude.

I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Commonwealth Shakespeare Company presents Much Ado About Nothing

Photo from CSC website

Shakespeare on Boston Common July 20 – Aug 7

One of my favorite summer traditions in Boston is attending one of the free performances by the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company on the Boston Common. Last year I had a great time with friends watching the CSC produtionc of The Tempest and this year’s comedy, Much Ado About Nothing, is one of my favorites from The Bard – much thanks to the 1990s movie starring Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson.

While the performances remain free, due to the popularity of these performances, advanced registration is strongly recommended for ease of arrival and priority access to seating. All shows start at 8PM with the exception of the matinee on July 30th which starts at 4PM. For more information, visit the Commonwealth Shakespeare Co. website.

About Much Ado About Nothing

The plot revolves around two couples — witty Beatrice and Benedick, who publicly proclaim their disdain for each other but fall madly in love; and naïve Hero and Claudio, who fall quickly in love only to be thwarted and then reunited (in both cases, with a bit of help from their friends). But it’s more than just a comedic romp. The play tackles serious themes too: trust and betrayal, power and privilege, gendered expectations around chastity and violence.

Opening Night: Cinderella starring Jujubee is at the North Shore Music Theatre thru July 24th

It is opening night at The North Shore Music Theatre for their new production of Rodgers + Hammerstein’s classic, CINDERELLA. The Tony Award®-winning musical will delight you with its surprisingly contemporary take on the classic tale, and RuPaul Drag Race fans will love seeing Mass-native, Jujubee, star in the role of Madame – the wicked stepmother.

The production features a live orchestra, jaw-dropping transformations and all the moments you love—the pumpkin, the glass slipper, the masked ball and more—plus some surprising new twists.

CINDERELLA opens tonight and will run through July 24th at the North Shore Music Theatre in Beverly, MA. The musical runs for just under 2.5 hours and includes one intermission.

Monday morning mancandy

May this week’s post distract you from the fact it is a Monday.

BosGuy makes pesto

Earlier this year I purchased two small basil plants from a local farm rather than my local grocery store, and I’ll never buy herb plants from a grocer again. This is easily the biggest, greenest and most fragrant basil plant I’ve ever had. As a result, I’ve been making pesto in batches all summer so thought I’d share this easy recipe.

The ingredients for a traditional pesto are fairly straightforward. However, I believe that if you want pesto to taste its best you need to use the freshest basil leaves, and grate the cheese you’ll use – don’t buy it grated.

2-3 cups of packed fresh basil leaves
1/2 cup of extra virgin olive oil
1/2 cup of grated Parmesan-Reggiano cheese
3-4 cloves of garlic (you can use more if you have roasted garlic)
1/3 cup of unsalted pine nuts

Instructions:
Add the basil leaves (stems removed), pine nuts, and garlic in a food processor and pulse a few times. Add half the cheese and drizzle in the olive oil as you pulse the ingredients. As the ingredients come together, add in the remaining cheese and oil.

Taste the pesto and add more basil leaves to increase the flavor. You can add more cheese to thicken or more oil to help thin the pesto to satisfy your taste. The cheese should provide enough salt for flavor but if not, I’ve been known to add a pinch of salt. Similarly, the raw garlic should add a bit of a bite, but you can add a pinch or two of fresh ground pepper to spice the pesto.

In addition to adding fresh pesto to pasta, I also add it to my red sauce as a secret ingredient. After you’ve cooked your sauce stir in a couple of tablespoons into the sauce.

In addition to being a great sauce or elevating a red sauce, I like to brush pesto on chicken breasts before I cook them (I also add the juice of half a lemon), and I love using a tablespoon of pesto in my morning omelette.

Scruffy Sunday

Saturday morning comics

Hey everyone there isn’t any new material to share with you for this week’s Saturday morning comics so here is a throwback post from 2019 that I loved.

While I enjoy this series, new material has been difficult to get. Are there any gay-themed comic series that you enjoy and would recommend if Adam & Andy was no longer available to share each Saturday?
