Michael Sam: GQ Man of the Year

Michael Sam GQ coverI know that this story broke yesterday but I was busy with work and had no time to share my congratulations to Michael Sam for being one of those honored with a GQ cover for their Men of the Year issue.  I don’t know Michael Sam and I don’t follow football but he is a profile in courage who deserves to be honored and recognized.  Congratulations Michael Sam and best of luck to you in 2015.

Things that make BosGuy go hmm…

I’m not a fashionista bEldridge Cleverut even I can see this is a fashion faux pas.  Check out the “Penis Pants”, conceived of and designed in the 1970s by Eldridge Clever.

The pants are designed with two styles, one with an oval-shaped pouch and the other (as shown on the left) with a “tubular shaped extension for the man’s penis and an adjoining smaller pouch for his testicles.”

Even more flummoxing is the tag line in the print commercial, “You’ll be the cock of the walk…” for realz.

Realm health and fitness tips from Kyle

BootcampInspired by a recent article in The Boston Globe, I started a week of “free fitness posts” yesterday and I asked Kyle to use his weekly post today to focus on one of the great FREE fitness programs in the city of Boston.  If you happened to miss the November Project morning work out this morning that I suggested in my post yesterday (you can read about it here) then maybe you’ll be tempted to try one of these free workouts in Boston’s Post Office Square tomorrow (Tuesday).

While a variety of classes are offered each weekday in Post Office Square, on Tuesdays, in the morning you can join Nicole for a Pilates class that starts at 7:15 AM sharp or if you are not a morning person, you can always join the free boot camp run by Erin that starts at 5:30 PM.

You can get more information about these and other classes in Boston’s Post Office Square this month by linking here.

Kyle at Realm FitnessKyle is a nationally certified personal trainer, certified nutritionist, and lifestyle motivator out of Los Angeles, CA. He has been training for 5 years and has experience working with top-tier celebrity and executive clientele. When he’s not in the gym, Kyle is reading philosophy or writing poetry.

Do you like short shorts?

men's fashion short shortsIs this a lame attempt to feign interest in fashion or just another excuse to post photos of handsome men on my blog? I’ll let you make that call.

Last week The Boston Globe was commenting on David Colman’s WSJ fashion article about how men’s shorts seem to be getting shorter.  The subtitle reads, Long for so long, men’s shorts are showing up in a range of inseams – from short to shorter to shortest.

I dress fairly conservatively so it isn’t likely that I’ll be wearing anything similar to the shorts I first wore back in the ’80s, but I’m more than happy to encourage other guys (esp the guy below) to follow the trend.

By comparison these don’t seem all that short so maybe I’ll wear these.michael bastian fashion

BosGuy style tip

trinity-eldredget-tie-knotIn cities across the US, charities will be hosting a variety of fundraisers this spring.  Some of these events will be very casual like the upcoming Taste of the South End here in Boston on Tuesday, March 4th, while others will be more formal – possibly requiring you to step up your game.

While nobody will fault you for a full Windsor knot, you can distinguish yourself and make your tie really stand out by selecting a less traditional tie knot.  While there are many to choose from, I really like the Trinity and Eldredge knots. Thanks to Alex Krasny and his YouTube videos you can watch how to tie a trinity tie knot and eldredge tie knot.
