Oh dear

This reminds me of that rule in fashion so often ignored, “just because they make it in your size doesn’t mean you should wear it.”

Fashion’s Night Out Boston: Movie under the stars

FNO Boston 2012The Shops at Prudential Center is participating in Fashion’s Night Out in Boston tonight by hosting a free screening of Breakfast at Tiffany’s at sundown on the South Garden.

It would be easy to make this into a great date night; have dinner across the street on Huntington Avenue at Brasserie Jo then hop over to the South Garden and enjoy the show. Dinner and a movie is rarely this romantic.

scott-james-fno-bostonThe new scott james store in Boston recently moved to new digs at 173 Newbury Street, and to celebrate the store will distribute Fashion Night Out (FNO) Survival Kits on Thursday to men who visit their store while supplies last.

What’s up with the socks and sandals

Standford rowing teamWhat’s up with this rower from the Stanford Team? Doesn’t he see that his team all know that socks and sandals simply don’t go?  Perhaps he didn’t see my post from last week Socks n Sandals.

D.hedral: The first shape based underwear

Recently I was bemoaning the fact that I do not resemble the Calvin Klein model who looks picture perfect in the underwear I purchased so you would think I’d not be tempted by D.Hedral’s sexy underwear line. Sadly, I’m a sucker and marketers know this.

D.Hedral claims their underwear is superior because they are the “first shape based underwear”.  Their product supposedly embraces your backside perfectly, enhancing it’s natural roundness and adding extra support. I’m thinking its sort of “wonder bra” for men’s butts. Check out this hilarious breakdown of how their garments will help you.

Consider this a PSA of sorts.

Calvin Klein lies

Michael A DownsI have this very same pair of underwear and they look nothing like this when I wear them! Thanks David for sharing this photo on your blog, H.A.F.  Now I need to get busy planning my frivolous legal case against Mr. Calvin Klein.

Fashion tip of the day: Accentuate the postive

BosGuyMy sister Susan sent me this eCard earlier this week to give me a chuckle and it reminded me of a phrase two of my friends in Atlanta use to always say, which I still believe is the golden rule when it comes to purchasing and wearing clothing.

“Just because they make it in your size

doesn’t mean you should wear it.”

No matter your body shape or size, there is clothing that can accentuate the positive.  Certain colors, cuts, prints and even fabrics all contribute to this or as is more often the case accentuate the negatives – and for the record, showing back fat is always accentuating the negative.

Gandy candy

David GandyFrom time to time I like to insert a photograph of David Gandy, a 30-something English model with a stunningly handsome face and body to match. I refer to these random posts as “Gandy candy” for obvious reasons.  Not sure who the lucky photographer was but I found this on the aptly named tumblr site, Candy Gandy.

Joe Manganiello

If you are gay look closely at the photograph below. There are actually three people in this photograph.  I only saw Joe Manganiello. Really, when you look below, can you blame me?

Boston area museums announce HUGE gifts

Saundra LaneIt has been a great week for two Boston area museums.  On Monday, May 21st The Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) announced that one of the museum’s trustees, Saundra Lane, would bequeath 6,000 photographs, including works from Charles Sheeler, Edward Weston, and Ansel Adams in addition to 100 works on paper and 25 paintings.

The  donation is estimated to be in excess of $100,000,000

Lane’s generous donation is one of the “largest and most significant gifts in it’s history” according to the press release.  The gift significantly increases the number of objects in the MFA’s photography collection from 9,000 to 15,000.

Peabody Essex MuseumIris Apfel, the 90 year old fashion icon best known for her signature owl eye glasses and chunky jewelry will give more than 600 pieces of clothing and accessories to the Peabody Essex Museum (P.E.M.) in Salem, MA.  Why is this New Yorker looking to the P.E.M. and not the MOMA which premiered her exhibition Rare Bird in 2005? Apparently that tour which also stopped at the P.E.M. impressed her so much that she decided this is where she’d like her collection to reside. In addition to her donation, her husband will also bequeath an undisclosed sum to help build the museum’s new fashion gallery.

Fashionistas take note

The P.E.M. is best known for their maritime art collection.  Apfel’s collection which also include articles from world famous designers including Karl Lagerfeld, Christian Dior, and Alexander McQueen will be included in the museum’s new fashion gallery and is expected to hopefully spur other fashion donations for the museum.

French swimmers model underwear

C’est Magnifique!

French underwear company Hom photographed eight French swimmers for their new underwear collection. There are more photographs on the OHLALA Mag blog where I first read the story as well as a two minute video on YouTube which I thought was less interesting but you can decide by watching here.

Hey US swimmers how about you step up to the plate and do the same? After seeing Ricky Berens swimming his Olympic qualifying race in Rome with a torn suit that exposed his bum this should seem tame.

Revere Hotel Boston: Fashion Show

Photo by: Dominick Reuter / EPA

The Revere Hotel celebrated its grand opening yesterday with a jaw dropping vertical fashion show that had models walk down the face of the 24-story hotel exterior wearing outfits created by students from Massachusetts College of Arts & Design and by Ted Baker London.

I love this photo taken by Dominick Reuter / EPA of  Mike Barron who is wearing an outfit created by Ted Baker London.

You can see more photos from the event here.
