Furry Friday
I thought I’d share a Halloween themed Furry Friday. Maybe I’ll see this costume strutting down Commercial St. or at one of the Provincetown parties this weekend.
Fenway HIV study needs you: Help spread the word
Earlier this spring I wrote about an ongoing national study that the Fenway is participating in that follows 400 gay couples, called Stronger Together.
Stronger Together is a research study that aims to improve the sexual health of male-male couples through unique testing opportunities. HIV infections still occur and it remains both a deeply personal and difficult issue to talk about and that is the real issue: lack of communication.
If you would like to help be part of the solution, Fenway Health would like to hear from you. Participants receive up to $350 ($700 per couple). For more information and to see if you are eligible please call 781.479.2330 or email StrongerTogetherBoston@gmail.com.
Who may be eligible to participate?
Male-Male couples over the age of 18
One partner is HIV+ (serodiscordant couples)
Couples willing to test for HIV and STIs together

Don’t Ask Don’t Tell this Saturday at Great Scott
This Saturday is the monthly LGBT party in Allston at Great Scott. This month the theme is “Club Kid Scene of the 1990s”. As the event page says on Facebook, “The club kid scene of the 90’s was a glorious and monstrous thing. It was your most lavish fantasy or your most twisted nightmare. Come dressed to impress for this rave featuring an all female roster of DJs and performers.

Gus Kenworthy comes out as gay
Gus Kenworthy first appeared on my radar during the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia when he took the silver medal in Men’s freestyle skiing. However it was his decision to postpone his return to the US following the Olympic Games to help find homes for more than 1,000 stray dogs in Sochi that captured my heart. 
Today Gus Kenworthy is making news again, but this time because he has come out to the media, confirming he is gay. With every athlete who comes out as gay they help to chip away at stereotypes and challenge assumptions about gay men and their ability to compete in sports. The fact that Gus is handsome and showed a more compassionate side to saving stray dogs is just icing on the cake so to speak.
Kenworthy has a videotaped interview on ESPN where he candidly discusses how he felt the need to hide the fact he was gay, “for the longest time I didn’t think I would tell anybody. I was so scared of what people would think… that way no one would ever have to know this dark side of me.” You can watch the 2-minute video of Gus Kenworthy talking about why he ultimately chose to come out, here.
Instagram account BearsCubsNBeards
If you liked the shout out I gave last month to an Instagram account that posts photos of men with beards then I think you’ll like this month’s account too.

The golden age of gay weddings
The US Supreme Court’s decision in June 2015, declaring same-sex marriage legal in all 50 states has resulted in many LGBT couples getting married this year. While many already lived in states where they could get married it was the recognition provided by the Federal Government that some had been waiting for. Regardless of their reasons, wedding planners who focus on this demographic are suggesting that this has ushered in the “golden age of gay weddings”.
According to a 2014 estimate from the Williams Institute, nationwide spending on gay marriage could bring in as much as $2.6 billion over the next three years.
Working with Credit Suisse, The Williams Institute created an interactive map, that shows how many marriages occurred and the total spending in the first three years LGBT couples were allowed to marry in those states. In the case of MA, 12,167 marriages took place and $111.2m was spent. Check out the interactive map here.
TWC’s Fellows take over Ted Baker Wed. 10/21
Tomorrow night The Fellows are hosting an event at the Ted Baker shop on Newbury Street. Over the years, Mr. Baker has provided me with an incredible amount of retail therapy. If you are in a similar mood or are just looking for an excuse to get out, check out The Fellows event tomorrow.

Gay quiz with LGBT ally Chris Thompson and his Dad
The distractingly handsome and heterosexual vlogger, Chris Thompson – also known as SupDaily06, posted a new YouTube video this week where he quizzes his Dad on gay lingo. The video is both funny and endearing. Take a watch and see how well his Dad does guessing the meaning of terms like: Otters, Throwing Shade and Basket Shopping.
