OGT Alert: Bear Tea Dance at Maine Street
Bring your honey up to Ogunquit this weekend and check out Maine Street’s Bear Tea Dance on Saturday, March 29th from 4 pm – 8 pm. Getting a room should be easy during the off season but be sure to call ahead. More information about the Bear Tea Dance is on FB here.
Marriage equality “tipping point”
As the nation gets more accustomed to referring to “gay marriage” and “same sex marriage” by it’s proper name, marriage equality, those barely concealed homophobic laws enacted in the first decade of the 21st century banning gays and lesbians from marrying, seem to be falling faster than ‘Born Agains’ at a baptism. Erik Eckholm from The NY Times wrote an excellent piece this past weekend, Wave of Appeals Expected to Turn the Tide on Same-Sex Marriage Bans, that is worth reading.
Eckholm writes, “Legal experts say the country is entering what one called a “marriage spring” and predict that several of the circuit courts, which hold sway over a group of states, will rule that state laws limiting marriage to a man and a woman are unconstitutional.”
Give the article a read if you missed it and are interested in this sort of thing. It is brief and very easy to follow. You can read it here.
Boston Pride week theme: Be yourself, change the world
Believe it or not, June is not that far away and the Boston Pride Committee late last week announced that the 2014 Pride Celebrations theme will be: Be yourself, change the world.
Boston’s Pride Committee wants you to nominate this year’s 2014 Parade Marshals. The Parade has two categories: Grand Marshal and Honorary Marshal, which is only given posthumously.
I’m still not certain who I’ll nominate for the 2014 Parade Marshal. I would love it to be someone with ties to Boston, but that isn’t a prerequisite and for that reason, I’m contemplating Michael Sam because of his brave decision to come out. However, I’m not 100% decided on this.
I will nominate the late, Nelson Mandela for Honorary Marshal. Despite his inaction to help prevent the spread of AIDS when he led South Africa he ultimately came around to champion prevention and education efforts and he certainly was true to himself and changed the world.
Submit nominations by emailing the nominees name and contact information, along with how they best represent this year’s theme, to Nominations@BostonPride.org. The deadline to send a nomination is April 15th.
Scruffy Sunday
Boston Spirit Magazine: Networking Night
I’ve previously written about this event, which an opportunity to socialize and network if you are contemplating a job change or actively looking for work. For first time participants, I suggest focusing your networking on the actual attendees who represent nearly every industry. While the booths are staffed with people happy to talk about hiring at their firms, it is really the attendees whom you need to introduce yourself, but none of that will be possible if you don’t first register. The past two years this event has filled to capacity so RSVP.
Register for Boston Spirit Magazine Networking Night – April 17th
Kissing
Many of us have personal insecurities that are rooted in our physical appearance. I happened upon this photograph earlier this week, and I thought “I wish I had those lips.” You see, I don’t really have an upper lip; technically I have an upper lip but it is barely there.
I love kissing so I always notice if someone has what I think are nice lips, because I inevitably then think, “They have nice lips. I bet they’re a good kisser“. File this post under ‘over sharing’.
Do you fixate on certain physical features? I would assume we all do but I find the irrationality of it to be aggravating; despite the fact that I can’t help myself.
Furry Friday
Much thanks to David over at WGB who initially posted this photo.

White homos are taking black women’s men
Normally I don’t post content like this but with the tide of public opinion and finally a supportive government (thank you President Obama), these rants no longer terrify me; James David Manning and his rants are now anachronistic. Between his rant against President Obama who is apparently destroying the black American family and his praise for African leaders who would like to kill homosexuals, Mr. Manning, Chief Pastor for ATLAH Worldwide Ministry Church in Harlem says this:
Now the white homo is now moving into black neighborhoods, looking for black men that have been converted into homosexuality. But black women, let me say something to you. You will have a very hard time competing against a white homosexual male. He usually has money. A white homo usually has an American Express card. He usually has an opportunity at the theater – homos love the theater, they love to go out to dinner parties. They love that kind of a thing and as a black woman you can’t compete.
Thanks for sharing this with me Lady High Heels.
