TWC take over: Men of the Strip

The Welcoming Committee, TWC, male strippersThe Welcoming Committee is encouraging you to embrace the Arts community in all its forms.   They are planning a take over of Men of the Strip, a sexy dance show that will be coming to Boston’s Wilbur Theatre on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015.

While these shows tend to be overrun by middle aged suburban housewives and bachelorette parties, TWC has decided to give these dancers (and their fans) something to think about with their boldest takeover to date.

Join the takeover at Boston’s Wilbur Theatre on Saturday, Jan 3 at 7 p.m.

Saturday night video: Dear Santa Bring Me a Man

Courteny Act, Alaska, Willam!RuPaul Drag Race alumnus Courtney Act, Willam and Alaska Thunderfuck have released a draglicious little ditty in time for the holidays called Dear Santa Bring Me a Man.  Many of you may have already seen this clip, but I thought it was perfect to hold off and post on a Saturday evening.  I actually love it and think I’m developing a bit of  a crush on Courtney.  Check out her homage to Madonna – mimicking her famous pose in the Vogue video.

Santa Speedo Run video makes the rounds

Santa Speedo Run coverage, SSRThe video I created for the Santa Speedo Run last Saturday proved to be quite the boon garnering ~25,000 views in the first 5 days.  I wanted to take a moment to recognize and thank some of the news outlets and blogs that shared my video with their readers.  With a special thanks going to bloggers, David (WGB), Kenneth (Kenneth in 212)Joe (JMG) as well as my friend, Jim Clerkin (KISS 108) and Huffington Post.

I would welcome the opportunity to talk to local media outlets – esp. those that focus on LGBT life or those that would like to be more inclusive. If you have any contacts or work at a local media group let me know.

The Colbert Report – The Word – President Obama

Apparently I’m one of the few (24% according to Rasmussen’s Presidential Tracking Poll), who strongly approve of President Obama’s performance.  My only real ongoing beef with Obama is in the realm of foreign policy – but even that is all relative when I think back to his predecessor’s foreign policy.

I love this clip from The Colbert Report and if you’ve not had a chance to see it perhaps you should.  It is not only very savvy of him when you think about the demographic he is reaching but also very self-deprecating; something I appreciate.

Toys for Joys party another huge success

T4J Boston, Toys for Joys Boston, Toys 4 JoysThe annual Toys for Joys party was a great success.  This year the event moved to accommodate a larger crowd and was hosted at the Revere Hotel’s Space 57 in Bay Village.  The Toys for Joys party has no long speeches and you are not repeatedly asked to ‘open your check book one more time.’  It is a fresh take on fundraising that focuses on socializing and bringing our community together, making it accessible all – not just people able to write large checks.  If you missed the event, I hope to see you there in 2015. Learn more about T4J here.

Saturday night video: Looking Season 2 Trailer

Earlier this week HBO issued another teaser for the second season of Looking, which returns Sunday, January 11, 2015.  I’m not a fan of the 30-minute format for dramas, but I eventually did get hooked on the series.  Do you plan on watching Season 2 of Looking?

Washio laundry / dry cleaning app comes to Boston

WashioDo you hate doing laundry? Washio is a laundry / dry cleaning app that started servicing Boston and some surrounding communities last month. I was only too eager to try this new service when they approached and asked me if I would give their service a try.

For professionals on the go and busy couples, I can see how Washio could become quite addicting.  The service, which is app-based, could not be easier to navigate. It only took a few minutes to create a profile, schedule a pick up and drop off.  Prices are reasonable considering the convenience: wash & fold is $1.70/lbs.; launder & pressing men’s dress shirts $2.75; and dry cleaning men’s dress pants $7.95.  For the full pricing list link here.

More information here:  getwashio.com

I was impressed by the punctuality, polite service and ease of use.  With winter coming, the idea of trudging down the street to lug my dress shirts and pants back home becomes less amusing and the convenience of Washio more compelling. Washio continues to expand their service here in Boston so check their website for more details.  Washio also operates in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oakland, Chicago and DC.  Check out their promo video below.

Saturday night video: Cure for homophobia

I have previously shared this very Not Safe For Work video and like to re-post it from time to time because I think there is some truth to this very funny video, which parodies the pharmaceutical advertisements you see on television today.

Saturday night video: Boston does Brittany

Last week a new reader asked me to post a photo of Jesse Jackman so I obliged with a screenshot from the above video that I had previously post last fall.  Re-posting that image reminded me about the video so I thought I’d share it as well.  This was done last year by a number of guys who play in Boston’s gay football league.  Have a great Saturday.
