The Harlot’s Guide to Classy Cocktails

The Harlot's Guide to Classy CocktailsEarlier this week NYC Drag Queen, Jeza Belle, released her new book The Harlot’s Guide to Classy Cocktails. I figured with the weekend right around the corner this was as good a time as any to give the book a plug.  Ms. Belle’s book includes delicious drink recipes as well as true drunken tales from drag queens around the world.

There is more information about Jeza Belle on her Facebook page.  To learn more about or to purchase the book, link here: harlotsguide.com.

Masculine Halloween costumes for your effeminate son

This video is a few years old and is courtesy of The Onion, a satirical digital media company.  However it is still funny and intended in good fun, although it doesn’t stretch the imagination to see something like this on the morning show FOX and Friends.

Saturday night video: Erasure

Since Erasure is in Boston tonight on their Violet Flame Tour I thought I’d play a classic Erasure song.  Have a great time if you are heading to see these guys tonight. They put on a great show.

Debunking The Top Five Myths About LGBT Non-Discrimination Laws

5 most popular myths about LGBT non-discrimination lawsLiving in Massachusetts it is easy to forget that there are cities and states around the country that do not have LGBT non-discrimination laws on the books.

While homophobia exists everywhere, there is power in having the law on your side and over time those laws influence behavior and help to change attitudes because the LGBT community is more welcomed and as a result able to live more openly.

Nicki Minaj video dubbed with farts

Juvenile, crass, rude – yes, but it still makes me laugh.  Checkout this new Nicki Minaj video dubbed with only farts. Apparently no matter how old I get, there remains an 8 year old boy in me.  In all fairness, it does significantly improve Ms. Minaj’s music.

Erasure at House of Blues BostonHouse of Blues in Boston Saturday, September 27

Erasure’s Violet Flame Tour comes to Boston on Saturday.  While I don’t have their latest CD / MP3 or whatever people are now calling “albums”, I remember seeing them a few years back on the True Colors Tour and they were fantastic.  For more information about the tour visit erasureinfo.com or you can buy tickets here.

Here is a video of one of my favorite Erasure songs.

Samsung mocks Apple’s iPhone 6

Samsung mocks AppleSamsung’s new campaign “It Doesn’t Take a Genius

I love how Samsung has used the recent iPhone 6 announcement by Apple to taunt them.  Both Apple and Samsung are mobile technology innovators, but I have to give it to the marketing team at Samsung for really sticking this one to Apple.  However, like all good rivalries, I’m sure Apple will come back swinging.  Until then though, enjoy this video from Samsung.

Let’s have a kiki – instructional video

My 9/11 tribute to my friend Graham

911

Graham Berkeley     January 12, 1964 – September 11, 2001

It seems surreal that more than a decade has passed since September 11, 2001. Each year, I take time to note the tragedy and my connection to it.  I shared a bit of my experience in a post I wrote a few years ago by the same title, My 9/11 tribute to my friend Graham.

September 11th remains etched in my memory not only because of the national tragedy but the personal loss and the fact that Sergio was flying that same route that month but happened to be in Brazil on vacation.  The shock of the scale of the attack combined with the personal loss and the thought that Sergio could have possibly been working that flight was more than my normally cool, calculated personality was able to process.

The anniversary remains a somber one but it no longer haunts me. In a strange way I look forward to remembering my friend, Graham, who inevitably dominates my thoughts on the days leading up to and on September 11th.  I won’t be posting anything else today as a tribute to Graham.  For all those impacted by this tragedy, you have my deepest sympathies.

Saturday night video

Varla Jean Merman’s take on School House Rock; quite educational and entertaining. Not safe for work but it is hysterical.

Wine review: Amisfield Pinot Gris 2012, New Zealand

Amisfield Pinot Gris 2012, New ZealandOver the Labor Day Weekend my good friend, Tracey, who also writes the 40-SomethingLife.com blog invited me to her condo in Southie to review the Amisfield Pinot Gris 2012, New Zealand wine.

Apparently this wine that retails for $20 – $25 is from a vineyard that is a favorite of the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton. While I’m not as well versed with wines as my friend and tutor, I was more than happy to split the bottle.

Sergio obliged by taping the wine review and did a great job at editing the clip.  For all you white wine lovers out there, check out our review and let me know what you think.

Realm health and fitness tips from Kyle

Need motivation or a new routine? Try Fitocracy! Fitocracy is a social fitness app that lets you choose from a myriad of different exercise routines specific to your goals, and connect with a network of friends to help motivate and keep you accountable.

The app has successfully “gamified” fitness by creating exercise “achievements” and levels to overcome that are both engaging and fun. The model gives tangible results such as unlocking a badge or a new status on the app, that if done correctly will follow through into actual fitness results in the future.

I like using fitocracy as a means of recording my weights, reps, and sets for my workouts and making sure that I improve on the work out the next time I do it. Give it a shot and see what level you can reach!
