I thought I’d class things up a bit for Labor Day Weekend. If we have to bid summer goodbye, it helps to see such appealing autumn apparel.

September brings back more than students. Most of Boston’s local theater companies also return with new productions and this fall local theater companies have an impressive line up with some productions already underway.
It is great to see traveling Broadway shows and tours that come to Boston, but it is the local theater companies that are the lifeblood of Boston’s theater scene. These companies are so worthy of your patronage so consider attending one or more of these productions this fall. Tickets are affordable and an evening out makes for a great date or night out with friends.
THE AMERICAN REPERTORY THEATER

Divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived. All this time, the six wives of Henry VIII have been reduced to a single rhyme—so they picked up a pen and a microphone. Can he still earn his place in these hallowed halls and sing in his own key? More Info Here.
NEWREP THEATRE
Nixon’s Nixon|| September 14 – October 6, 2019
The night before Richard Nixon announced his resignation from the Presidency, he summoned Secretary of State Henry Kissinger to meet with him in the White House. What happened behind those closed doors will never be known, but playwright Russell Lees takes us on a journey through his own interpretation. Reflecting on political events that are strikingly similar to those faced today, Nixon’s Nixon questions whether the American Presidency is truly an office for leadership, or simply an opportunity to hold power. Thanks to the note below from the photogapher Anton Parish, we know this photo of Robert Mapplethorpe and Marcus Leatherdale was taken at Studio 54 in 1979. At the time Leatherdale worked for Mapplethorpe as his office manager and as a model for Mapplethorpe before going on to be an accomplished photographer in his own right.
I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Do you have a photo you would like to share? Email me at bosguymail@gmail.com.
I can’t tell you much about this Instagram account because there is little shared in the profile. At the time I wrote this post in July, David – the name associated with the account – had just over 400 followers making this account a virtual unknown.
However, the humor and risque nature of the posts which increasingly show off the backside of men in short video form make me think that this will quickly become more popular. I like the account owner’s humor and think you might too so check it out and let me know what you think.

Did you see the Boston Globe article, Southie’s line in the sand is at M Street Beach? I regularly go to M Street Beach and the ‘crackdown’ is an accurate description but pointless since its has had (and will continue to have) no impact.
The article says the increased presence of State troopers has come at the request of some Southie residents “who have raised concerns about the number of young people at the beach and the amount of alcohol they consume.” IMHO, this is just code for long time and mostly older residents upset with the changes they see taking place in their neighborhood. This former blue collar bastion of Irish-American families is increasingly a magnet for affluent 20 and 30 somethings. The nostalgic residents conveniently forget that the “good ol’ days” weren’t so great. The beaches in Southie overlooked the dirtiest harbor in the country and the beaches were filled with litter, including used needles and cigarette butts.
Watching the police patrolling M Street, it is hard to tell who is more unhappy; the people on the beach or the police who look uncomfortable wearing their polyester uniforms in the blazing sun. It is worth noting that in the years I’ve gone to M Street beach, I’ve not seen fights or disturbances attributed to drinking so the alarm raised by residents seems more peevish than reality.
So here’s my sincere ask to Mayor Marty Walsh and Governor Charlie Baker, can we please use these public funds more effectively? In lieu of paying for police to patrol our public beaches, acting like resident assistants in a dormitory, can we use those funds more effectively? I’m sure the MBTA could use the money.
The first thing that came to mind when I saw this photo on the now defunct website, 2mblr.com/scotsmen was eenie meenie minie moe.
