Tonight: Boyfriends Loves Kylie at the Milky Way
Who can resist a Kylie Minogue theme night? Grab your dancing shoes and head over to the Milky Way in JP and enjoy a fun evening with friends while listening to great music by resident DJ Brent Covington. I’m sure the video I’ve included below will be one of the many favorite hits you will hear.
Doors open at 10pm and there is a $5 cover to get in the door. The Milky Way is located at at 284 Amory Street (The Brewery Complex). For more info link here.
Grindr survey on PrEP
Last fall Grindr released the video below to share their survey findings after partnering with the CDC, SFAF and Gilead. The nationwide survey looked at current attitudes, usage and questions regarding PrEP.
What is PrEP? PrEP (also sometimes referred to as Truvada) is a daily pill that has been approved by the FDA and been shown to be safe and effective in preventing HIV’s ability to copy itself in your body after you’ve been exposed.
According to the survey findings many gay men who are sexually active are afraid to ask their doctors about PrEP and 1 in 10 had trouble getting their doctors to prescribe them the medication (that statistic was double for black respondents).

New restaurant Scofflaw looks to open at Ink Block
Another restaurant and bar looks like it will be opening in the South End’s Ink Block. You may recall back in November I wrote about Bar Mezzana which is an Italian restaurant that is aiming for a spring 2016 opening in the 360 Harrison Ave building. This new restaurant – rumored to be called Scofflaw – will be in the 300 Harrison Avenue building.
The new space is hoping to acquire the Lower Mills Tavern liquor license. A hearing for the request was scheduled for Wednesday, January 6th. You can read more about the new restaurant from, Boston Restaurant Talk.

The Cyclorama at the Boston Center for the Arts

More than 40 of the neighborhood’s restaurants will be present and there will be plenty to drink as well as entertaining cooking demonstrations from some of the neighborhood’s most admired chefs. 345 Harrison Avenue in South End update
345 Harrison Avenue in Boston’s South End
You may not have noticed but the old Greybar building that occupied a city block between Washington Street and Harrison Ave has been demolished and construction appears to be underway (or soon to be underway) for the new residential development currently known by its address, 345 Harrison Ave.

Tomorrow the BRA Board of Directors will meet and is expected to approve changes to the project. According to the BRA agenda notes, the developer – Nordblom – would like to increase the retail space from 30,000 to 40,000 square feet, decrease the number of units from 602 to 587 apartments and increase the number of parking spaces to 270 spaces. Who knows when this project will finally be finished but it is nice to see activity here and it will be interesting to see how the project will add life to this part of the South End.
Lyric Stage of Boston presents Sondheim on Sondheim
Sondheim on Sondheim is a musical revue consisting of music and lyrics written by Stephen Sondheim for his many shows. It was conceived and directed by James Lapine and originally ran on Broadway in 2010.

Later this week The Lyric Stage of Boston will present their production of Sondheim on Sondheim. Opening night is Friday, January 15th. Fans of Stephen Sondheim should definitely check out the local production.

Rugby players give shirtless in-flight safety demo
Last week Matt over at boy culture posted this video of Australian Polecats rugby players giving their own in-flight safety demo shirtless (after the official one was done by the crew). If this sort of thing was done here in the U.S. not only would I pay far more attention but I’d likely factor that into consideration when I booked my next flight.
I haven’t said this lately, but I love Australia and Australians in general. They have such a cheeky sensibility and fantastic sense of humor.

G4G Boston: Valentine’s Day Cards for Boston Elders
Gay for Good Boston (G4G) invites you to join them make Valentine’s Day cards for isolated elders living in Boston. Materials will be provided but all are welcome to bring arts and craft supplies. Cards that are made will be delivered throughout the city and distributed to elders in need of a friend.

NextDoor Theater presents Light In The Piazza
Later this week NextDoor Theater in Winchester, MA presents Craig Lucas’ Light in the Piazza, January 15, 16, 21, 22, 28, 29, 30 at 8PM and January 24 at 2PM.
The story is set in the 1950s and revolves around Margaret Johnson, a wealthy Southern woman and her developmentally stalled daughter, Clara, who spend a summer together in Italy. When Clara falls in love with a young Italian man, Margaret is forced to reconsider not only Clara’s future but her own deep seated hopes and regrets as well.
