President Obama on Trayvon Martin

Obama_Trayvon_MartinIn an unscheduled and unusually personal speech last Friday, President Barack Obama tried to explain why African-Americans were upset about last week’s acquittal of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

Obama’s 20 minute speech was a welcome response in my opinion although conservative news agencies and commentators like FOX News and Sean Hannity were quick to criticize the President.  I’ve been upset about this case since it was first reported and while I’ll admit I don’t know all the details, the fact that Zimmerman relied on Florida’s Stand Your Ground law to defend following a young black man who in his opinion “looked suspicious” smacks of vigilantism.

Did you miss Obama’s unscheduled address? Watch it here.

Fuzz Wax BarWith Bear Week in Provincetown officially ending just yesterday, this waxing video may seem sacrilegious, but I couldn’t resist sharing this quick video from the Fuzz Wax Bar team in Toronto.

Check out as this handsome model walks on the streets of Toronto, inviting people to tear off wax strips that doubled as coupons.

Pretty painful creative marketing if you ask me.

20 signs you’re at a gay pool party

Pool PartyLast week I wrote about how last Saturday I attended the gay Boston softball fundraiser at the Manhunt Mansion and posted photos.  Shortly after, my friend Marco shared a post from Buzzfeed 20 Signs you’re at a gay pool party.

I have to admit that the signs are all spot on.  Are you going to a pool party today or later this summer?

I’m sure you’ll get a kick out of this list which includes such signs as:

  • Many are wearing suits that can’t get wet
  • There is plenty of food but no one eats
  • There are no children but there will be blow up toys

Adam Ezra Group at City Hall Plaza tonight

Adam Ezra GroupBoston’s Music Festival – Outside the Box – has been hosting dozens of shows each day since the festival started last week. Later tonight the Adam Ezra Group will take the main stage in City Hall Plaza at 7:30 pm.  If you get there earlier, you can also see award-winning recording artist and native Bostonian Adam Jensen who comes on stage at 6pm.

Here’s a song I’m fairly certain the Adam Ezra Group will perform tonight for everyone.  Note it’s not exactly work safe.

BosGuy brain teaser

brain teaserEach Friday morning I post a riddle to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain. If you are stumped, share it with a friend or colleague to see if you can figure it out together.

I’ll confirm answers later in the day so don’t worry if you don’t see your comment posted right away. I want to give everyone a chance.

This weeks riddle:  Two men are trying to determine if a barrel of wine is more than half full. Without any measuring implements and without removing any wine from the barrel, how can one easily determine if the barrel is more or less than half full?
