FOXY Marathon Monday Party

This past Sunday a friend told me about the Foxy Action Group on Facebook, which organizes get togethers in Central Square every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month at ZUZU. Since I had Monday off (thanks to the marathon) I opted to check out the party and had a great time.

The bar is shabby-chic (okay maybe just plain shabby) and the crowd is distinctly Cambridge. For those not from the area, sorry for the local reference but its the only way I know to describe the vibe.

The crowd includes all ages and has a crunchy feel (not the usual preppy look which is so evident on the other side of the river). The handsome DJs played mostly 80s and funk. I don’t normally go out on school nights so I’m really glad I had the chance to scope out this night. I hope that FOXY nights are here to stay and hope they can expand this to every Sunday. I’ll definitely be back again.

I’ve included a couple of pictures that I snapped from my blackberry from last night. The quality is not great, but it’s all I have to share.

Men of Twitter

I’m a fan of Twitter. I love how quick and easy it is to use and connect with people. Another perk is what I’ll refer to as the “Men of Twitter” since there are so many handsome guys using Twitter. Adding to that attraction is the fact that they only talk in 140 characters.

Each Monday I post #MenOfTwitter profiles that have caught my attention and whom I think you may enjoy following (or at a minimum looking at). As always, suggestions for profiles to feature are welcome and if you’d like to follow me, you can find me at @BosGuy. Below are a few more #MenOfTwitter you may want to follow.
BrandonLewis3 – I have this feeling if Wikipedia had an entry for ‘Man-Candy’ a photo of Brandon might just be the definition to accompany the entry. He lists Atlanta as his home so be on the lookout for this tall drink of water. His tweets run the gamut from conversational to flirtatious. Be nice to him and yourself and start following him today.

TheMoInMontrose – This is one of my favorite guys to follow. Not only does he put the “Mo” in Montrose but he makes logging on to twitter more colorful and interesting. Always active on twitter and quick to reply back he’s both handsome and interesting. Trust me – you’ll love following him.

MisterVinceC – Describes himself as “not ya average kinda guy” who lists among his interests meeting people and surfing. This handsome guy definitely has a west coast vibe about him but he lists Boston as his home on Twitter. I would sum up his tweets in two words: “brief” and “flirtatious”. Follow him… You know you want to.

BTW – If you like this post, ReTweet. If you love it, follow @BosGuy.

Mystery Meet Boston: Tres Gatos

Earlier this month I attended my second Mystery Meet Boston event. The group which is comprised of food lovers and bloggers, hosts a monthly meet-up at a location in and around Boston the second Tuesday of each month. If you are a food blogger or avid foodie living in and around Boston, I’d suggest you check out the group.

This month the group met at JP’s Tres Gatos, a funky Spanish tapas restaurant that also sells books and music. The tiny restaurant and bar has a definite cozy vibe and seems like a great addition to the neighborhood. Chef Marcos Sanchez was on hand to welcome us and cook the 4-course tasting menu for all of us. At the end of this entry I’ve included photos from each course. If curious, you can view the restaurant’s menu here.

1st Plate Assorted Tapas: I thought this was the most disappointing of the four plates. In particular the radish shown at the top of the plate was both lacking flavor and not satisfying.
2nd Plate Gambas A La Plancha: If we eat food with our eyes, than this was my favorite in terms of presentation. The over sized prawns in a cilantro coulis did not disappoint.
3rd Plate Fideos: This included chorizo, chicken liver, mussels and was extremely flavorful.
4th Plate Queso: This included three cheeses. My favorite was the manchego but all of it was good. My only complaint was the portions for this plate were ridiculously tiny.

Do you like me? Do you really, really like me?

Pardon the weak attempt to mock / paraphrase Sally Field’s famous line from her acceptance speech at the Oscars, but I couldn’t resist. In an attempt to further my assimilation to facebook (because that is sort of how it feels), I’m embracing the application to the best of my ability and have placed this icon under each of my posts.

In theory, readers who click on this “like” icon will help me further tie my blog to facebook, but I remain somewhat suspect and unsure how. However, I have complete faith in Thom who helped me place the icon on my blog and want to thank him for his help and patience yesterday with all my facebook questions. Alas even this Mac / techie guru was not able to achieve what I was hoping (and assumed would be so easy to do). Who knew I maintained such high expectations? For the record that was a rhetorical question… I can only imagine the witty responses of friends and family to such an open ended question.

Anyway, have a wonderful Sunday.

Breakfast with Thom

This morning I had the opportunity to meet another guy whom I chat with on Twitter and who’s blog I’ve followed off and on for awhile now. Incidentally, I just added his blog in my “stuff I read” section. I feel somewhat fortunate in the fact that everyone I’ve met in person has been so nice and interesting; I must have good twitter and blogger karma.

Anyway, Thom (of TeachingThomas fame) was so sweet and nice, what started as a “let’s meet for coffee” turned into a “let’s have breakfast”. Thom lived in Boston for several years, but moved back to his native Maine and lives in the Portland area now. He comes back to Boston frequently, so I’m looking forward to seeing him again and getting to know him better.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that Thom is a bit of a techie so I asked for his help with Facebook too. Alas, my problems with leveraging that site persist. I can’t seem to figure out how to make sure people on facebook can find my blog page there, but I wanted to say thank you to Thom for all his help and patience.

Marathon weekend

Its marathon weekend in Boston and although the rest of the world would have no idea (unless perhaps you are a marathon runner) this is one of the biggest sporting events in the city and one of my favorite weekends in the city. The Boston Marathon draws more than half a million spectators who line the 26.2 mile course and to cheer on the more than 25,000 runners every Patriot’s Day.

In addition to being one of the most difficult marathons in the world, it is one of the five world marathon majors and is the oldest annual marathon dating back to 1897 when the first Boston Marathon was run.

This weekend is the Boston Marathon Sports & Fitness Expo at the Hynes Auditorium (Saturday & Sunday) from 9:00am – 6:00pm. Nearly every athletic, fitness and nutrition firm you can imagine sets up booths to educate and sell their products. Vendors have special sales for the expo and there are usually some pretty cool freebies.

There will be no blogging today to show my support of THE DAY OF SILENCE, sponsored by GLSEN. Today is a day of action in which bloggers across the US can take a vow of silence to call attention to the silencing effect of anti-LGBT bullying and harassment in schools.

I remember the words and threats addressed to me and others when I was growing up and what paralyzed me and kept me in the closet when I was younger have emboldened and made me stronger as an adult. However, in memory of the frightened and confused teenager and young adult I once was and to show my support, today I am refraining from blogging. Your comments and thoughts are of course welcome, and I’ll be back to blogging on Saturday.

Facebook (again)

Okay… So I’ve called in the FB-calvary and I think I may have finally set up my blog page on facebook correctly. If you follow or read my blog, would you please check out and see if you can find “BosGuy Blog” on facebook and if so follow / friend me or whatever the f*ck facebook people do.

Due to tomorrow being the Day of Silence I may be slow to respond, but leave a comment here if you can find and tag me on facebook. If you’re having issues let me know too.

Thank you blog-people.

Useless news from Chelsea Handler

Who says that Chelsea Handler’s show is not educational? Tonight she shared this late breaking news. The Maine State Senate has agreed to allow them one-armed residents to carry switchblades. According to news service Reuters this will “eliminate a need for one-armed people to be forced to open folding knives with their teeth in emergencies”.

The knives will, however, be limited to a blade three inches or shorter, in keeping with a federal flick knife law which delightfully “allows their use by a person with one arm only on federal property if the blade is shorter than three inches”. You can read the full story here.

Thank you Chelsea Handler for sharing this useless tidbit of news.

Tweet of the Day: PAPP Smear

I re-Tweeted this from Kevin_byDesign…not sure of the origin, but I couldn’t pass it up. You may remember that Kevin was one of my #MenOfTwitter from last week. If you’re on twitter check him out. He’s handsome and funny.

Day of Silence – Friday, April 15

THE DAY OF SILENCE which is sponsored by GLSEN, the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, is a day of action where students across the country take some form of a vow of silence to call attention to the silencing effect of anti-LGBT bullying and harassment in schools. Through their activities students can speak out against harassment and organize for change for their schools and communities.

Not a student? No worries, neither am I but I’ll be showing my support for THE DAY OF SILENCE by refraining from blogging & tweeting. If you have a blog or actively use Twitter, I hope you will join me and the thousands of others on Friday, April 15th.

If you’d like to learn more, go to DAY OF SILENCE.

How F*cked is the T?

How F*cked Is The T? is a new website application that provides real-time MBTA transit data and offers commuters using the Orange, Red, Blue and Green lines with useful information such as wait times and when trains are approaching T stations.

I give the creators bonus points for the cheeky name and its ease of use. According to the Boston Innovation site which first published the story, the application was created by Joey Brunelle and Goose Rock Design. A San Francisco firm that describes itself as a full-service web design & development company that excels at collaborating with small businesses and start-ups to create attractive, intuitive, awesome websites.

Restaurant Review: Legal Sea Foods

Without a doubt, Legal Sea Foods (or Legal’s as locals refer to it) is Boston’s best known, homegrown restaurant chain. Tourists often have this on their list of places to try even though restaurants are now in 9 states. A dinner at a Boston area Legal’s will run you approximately $40.00pp (starter, main plate and dessert) no alcohol or tip included. If the dinner prices are too steep, visit for lunch and you can dine for a bit less cash. Tonight, I ate at the Prudential Mall location and started with 1/2 dozen oysters. I devoured the Prince Edward Island and Cape Cod oysters within minutes. All were delicious but I prefer the P.E.I.’s (they are personal favorites).

1/2 Dozen Oysters: $13.95
Following the oysters I had fish-n-chips which is really quite excellent. Legal’s seems to always use just the right amount of batter and never overcook the fish. It’s a great value – less than most entrees and its incredibly filling. My plate came with 6 large fillets which left me more than stuffed and only too happy to have a mile walk home to help digest everything.

Fish-n-Chips: $16.95
Service can vary depending on the location you go, but the staff at the Prudential was attentive and helpful. Our waitress accommodated a few special requests and made some helpful suggestions when ordering. The food at Legal’s is consistently good and worth trying should you have a hankering for sea food.
