Men of Twitter

I’m a fan of Twitter. I love how quick and easy it is to use and connect with people. Another perk is what I’ll refer to as the “Men of Twitter” since there are so many handsome guys using Twitter. Adding to that attraction is the fact that they only talk in 140 characters.

Each Monday I post #MenOfTwitter profiles that have caught my attention and whom I think you may enjoy following (or at a minimum looking at). As always, suggestions for profiles to feature are welcome and if you’d like to follow me, you can find me at @BosGuy. Below are a few more #MenOfTwitter you may want to follow.
TheMaverickMen – How could I not include Cole & Hunter? These two Boston guys have become household names for most gay men in the US and they remain very approachable on Twitter. If you’re a fan of their work, check them out. Reading about their adventures on Twitter is enough to brighten anyone’s day.

_JuanAutrey – I just think this guy from Detroit is so damn sexy. Not sure if it’s the eyes, lips or what but it all works, and I love seeing his picture appear on TweetDeck when he posts on Twitter.

Dominicsjr – Dominic (another Bostonian) proudly describes himself on his Twitter handle as a “gnerd”. Rarely does a gnerd look so ggood. Dominic’s tweets are generally humorous or about food. But for the record, I think this guy looks more like gstud.

Guys in Kilts

Well to be specific, a guy in a kilt (click on picture to enlarge). My friend opted to wear a traditional Scottish kilt to the black tie affair Fenway Health Men’s Event. No comment on what was under the kilt, but lets just say all the guys who decided to wear a kilt (and there were quite a few) were comfortable and not nearly as warm as the rest of us in our tuxedos.

I’ve assembled a quick video you can view on YouTube “Fenway Men’s Event 2011” or you can watch it in the post below this one.

Fenway Health Men’s Event 2011

Check out this video from the Fenway Health Men’s Event in Boston last night. The sold out black tie event is a critical fund raiser for the Fenway Health Clinic. More than 1,300 gay men and their friends showed up to help raise money to support the Fenway.

Did you know? Fenway Health’s Ansin 10-story clinic is the largest facility ever constructed by an organization with a specific mission to serve the LGBT community.

Fenway Health Mission
The mission of Fenway Health is to enhance the well-being of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and all people in our neighborhoods and beyond through access to the highest quality health care, education, research and advocacy.

Gay fiction book reviews

I’ve been reading a fair amount of gay fiction lately and wanted to write about two books for anyone looking for something to read. The first book, Catch Me If You Can by LB Gregg was a surprisingly funny and quick read. In just over 200 pages Gregg weaves a tale told from the perspective of Caesar Romano, “a lowly gallery assistant” who is living with his grandmother in New York City. Returning to work the following morning after a particularly successful gallery opening, Caesar realizes all is not right when a Justin Timberlake bust from the collection is missing. What ensues is an entertaining mystery full of miscommunications, misunderstandings and a hint of romance. If you are looking for a light and easy read, this is one worth trying.

The Silver Hearted is a darker, less straight forward story than the previous book. Billed as an updated gay-themed version of Conrad’s Heart of Darkness, this 200+ page book is less transparent and more ominous. The parallels to Conrad’s classic are obvious (maybe too obvious). However, the author, David McConnell, is a gifted writer and he quickly pulled me in with his exotic settings and strange characters. Similar to the classic a sense of confusion and foreboding persists throughout. Where this book definitely deviates from Conrad’s is the gay theme, which is subtly introduced and beautifully written. The sexual tension between the main character and a young deck hand is the real story and becomes more enthralling with each passing chapter.

I hope that by providing two very different options, one may speak to you and you will go to your local library or bookstore to take-out or buy a copy. If possible, I’d like to encourage other avid readers to support their local libraries which have been strapped for cash and can certainly use your patronage or if owning a personal copy is important – consider going to your local bookstore. Too many local bookshops have had to close shop in recent years.

Fenway Men’s Event 2011

This Saturday, April 9th is Fenway Health Men’s Event. The black tie affair draws 1,300+ gay men and their friends each year to help raise funds for one of the nation’s largest GLBT clinics. In recent years, the Fenway has opened a state of the art 10-story clinic on Boylston Street in the Fenway neighborhood, allowing them to help more members of our community.

I’ll be snapping pictures from Saturday’s affair and will share those pictures on my blog following the event. However, if you would like to get involved and help make a difference Fenway Health is always looking for volunteers and donations (no matter how humble the amount).

You can learn more about the great work Fenway is doing here in Boston and through out the region as well as their cutting-edge research which helps the GLBT community at-large by visiting their site today, www.FenwayHealth.org.

Nobody moves to New England for the weather

I don’t think I’ve ever said this before, but I can’t wait for Monday!

Peter Pansy

Ryan Landry has announced his newest production, Peter Pansy: A musical adventure in faggotry. I have to admit that Landry’s musicals tend to be my favorite so I’ll be lining up to see this latest production.

Performance information:
Dates May 6th – May 29th
Times Friday & Saturday nights at 8pm
Location 1254 Boylston Street (Machine)
Tickets: $35 general seating / $45 VIP seating
You can purchase tickets to his latest production here.

About Peter Pansy
Peter Pansy is a very mischievous boy who not only has the ability to fly but swishes quite effeminately while doing so! … Move over Billy Elliot! Living out his never ending childhood on the island of Provincetonia, Peter Pansy is the leader of all things lavender!

When our hero ventures into the “real world” looking for his lost eye shadows he meets the not so darling, Darling children. Wendy – a chronic masturbator, John – a cross dressing academic and Michael – a post pubescent baby. Before you can say Charles Nelson Reilly, Peter gets them all hooked on “Pixie Dust” and up they go… following Peter back to his mythical homeland and a slew of adventures that would make even Michael Jackson spin in his grave!

Red Sox come home

Although the Red Sox 0-5 start to the season is extremely disappointing, all can be forgiven if they sweep the NYY who come into town tomorrow (Friday) for a 3-game series at Fenway. So break out your rosary beads, start your chanting, do what ever you do, because the Red Sox are coming home starting Friday – and I can hardly wait.

Penis & IQ world map

No comment, but I’d like to hear yours. Click on image to enlarge
Last month I shared a Penis Size World Map. Since the map was so popular, I figured I’d share this graphic which compares the average size of men’s penis with the average IQ from that country. And just to clarify for those who asked the first time around… this is in cm’s not inches.

Kevin_bydesign – What a Californian dream this guy is to look at. Kevin’s tweets vary from dialog with his friends on the twittersphere to witty comments and observations. I always enjoy following Kevin and you will too.

firefighter401 – How could I not include Brian in my #MenOfTwitter? He’s a fireman from Detroit! His shirtless profile picture wearing his fireman garb is damn sexy. What can I say? I’m totally smitten.

ohthankyoudan – Dan lives in London and his tweets reflect the dry wit most Brits have and which I love so much. In addition to funny tweets his profile pic is quite dashing and just the sort of guy I’d flirt unabashedly with when I was in my 20s.

Max Brenner Boston restaurant & bar opens

Max Brenner opened his first shop in Boston earlier this week. In lieu of his logo which any chocoholic worth their while would recognize, I opted to include a photo of Lee, one of the friendly bartenders at Max Brenner Boston. I figure Lee’s resemblance to the corporate logo and winning smile was reason enough, but truth be told I’ve known Lee quite a while and was pleasantly surprised to see him working there and happier still to have an excuse to post his handsome picture. I believe this is the first (perhaps only) Max Brenner location in North America that has a bar. Although it may be an anomaly for Max Brenner shops, this will probably guarantee a late night crowd will keep the store full and busy and help it remain profitable. There are approximately a half dozen other chocolate shops within blocks of this store, but none offer such a large menu or remain open quite so late.

Included below are a few photographs of the new location. Click on the image to enlarge. Apparently I’m not the only chocoholic, as this table of handsome guys from the South End shows. They appeared to be enjoying their afternoon meal and were good sports to smile pretty for the camera so I couldn’t resist including the photo.

Patti LuPone in Boston

Tonight, I’m going to see Patti LuPone perform her show The Gypsy in my soul at Symphony Hall. Earlier today a friend offered the extra pair after the couple who originally bought them realized they had a conflict and would not be able to attend. I’m no Broadway aficionado, but Patti LuPone is legendary so I’m looking forward to tonight’s performance. Look Mom – I’m trying new things and ‘broadening my horizons’.

According to the write-up, Patti LuPone will be accompanied by a 10-piece band and will sing songs from musicals including Gypsy, Anything Goes, and Oliver. I’m sure I won’t recognize many of the songs, but I certainly look forward to the performance; hopefully she’ll also sing “Don’t Cry for me Argentina”.

Posting Update
I’ve just returned from the Patti LuPone show in Boston at Symphony Hall, and I have to say it was BRILLIANT. I really couldn’t believe how beautiful she sang and was surprised when the 2 hour show ended. I have a terrible memory so I can’t recall all the songs she performed, but if tickets are available in your town – I’d really recommend checking out her show.

Cazwell: Get My Money Back

Cazwell is not likely to ever win a Grammy, but he does make entertaining videos and his latest song “Get My Money Back” is no exception (esp. after the 1:45 mark). This kid from Worcester and his cast of twinks have made another funny, sexy video. If you have not seen it check it out.

You can also check out his equally catchy / visually entertaining summer hit, Ice Cream Truck.

Mile High Madness w/ Air New Zealand

Oh my… Air New Zealand has a long history of creating inventive safety videos to ensure their passengers are paying attention. The latest incarnation includes Richard Simmons in a clip entitled, Mile High Madness

Friday fitness update

It has been a few weeks since I last wrote about working out, but I’ve been good about getting myself to the gym. My trainer, Stu, (pictured here) has been good about pushing me with new routines that have more often than not left me gasping and feeling a bit sore the next day… I never would have thought that I would be paying to have someone torture me; let alone enjoy it so much.

In recent weeks my running has tapered off, but I’m still running 4 miles in about 34-35 minutes so if I can just squeeze in 1-2 more runs a week I’ll feel better. I also need to get better about my late night feedings (and no I’m not referring to my penchant for consuming gin soaked olives from martinis) although come to think about it – that probably needs to stop too; crap.

Anyone out there also struggling with their gym or work out routines? Help! In my case, misery truly does appreciate company.
