Modus Vivendi Glamour Line

gay, fashionJust in time for the holiday season, Modus Vivendi has released their Glamour Line inspired by the Glam rock style invented in the 70s in the UK. Regardless of the inspiration, the collection contains so many sequins you can make the case that they are festive enough to wear at December’s Underbear party at The Alley.

Modus Vivendi Glamour Line

While the Glamour tanktop and low cut brief shown above aren’t my personal style, a  magician on the next Atlantis Cruise or their ‘helper’ might love it.

My aesthetic runs more to the Modus Vivendi Dali line (specifically their boxers) shown below. BTW, I’m a medium – just in case you wanted to send me a pair. I prefer strong graphic prints to sequins for my underwear.

BosGuy brain teaser

riddle, exercise for your brainEach Friday morning I post a riddle to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain. If you are stumped, share it with a friend or colleague and see if you can figure out the answer together.

I’ll confirm answers in the afternoon so don’t worry if you don’t see your comment posted right away. I want to give everyone a chance to guess.

This week’s brain teaser:  Two camels were facing in opposite directions. One was facing due East and one was facing due West. They were in the desert so there was no reflection. How can they manage to see each other without walking around or turning around or moving their heads?

Like riddles? Check out past week’s brain teasers.

Boston named 7th most unaffordable housing market in North America by Point2Homes

Boston was named the seventh least affordable housing market in North America recently by real estate search portal Point2 Homes, which looked at affordability ratios across North America.

Point2 Homes divided Boston’s median home sale price, $610,000, by its median annual family income, $61,176, to arrive at an affordability ratio of 10. An affordability ratio of 5.1 or greater is considered “severely unaffordable”.

boston real estate

Unsurprisingly, the ten most unaffordable markets were all cities in the Northeast and the West coast, but what did surprise me was seeing Vancouver topping the list with a ratio of 17.3, surpassing San Francisco and Manhattan.

Mayor Marty Walsh was just re-elected to office as Mayor of Boston. I hope that in his second term he can work with developers to create more affordable housing. Boston has long been considered a very expensive city to live in and it would be to our advantage to shed that reputation or at the very least find a way to drop out of the top 10.

You can see the full listing of all 50 markets in North America to see where / how where you lived was ranked: Housing Affordability by Market in North America.

Vintage gay

This week’s photo dates to the early 1970s when gay activists Scott Smith (left) and Harvey Milk (right) dated. They met in NYC in 1969, but by the early 1970s they were living together in San Francisco. If you’re not familiar with the work Harvey Milk and his partner did for our community in the 1970s, I highly recommend watching the 2008 movie MILK, which earned an Oscar for best original screen play and best actor.

I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Do you have a photo you would like to share?
