Today is my father’s birthday, but I’m not there with him. I am down in Brazil with Sergio who’s family is going through a particularly difficult time so I wanted to wish him all the best and let him know I’m thinking of him.
My relationship with my parents has only deepened and grown stronger over the years, despite the fact that I couldn’t live a more different life than they know (gay, urban and childless) but the bond and understanding has never wavered or been stronger. My parents and my father in particular are living heroes who I strive to emulate. This is Dad on his boat on Lake Winnipesaukee in 2013.

Well its not quite night in Boston just yet, but it will be before I realize it so I wanted to wish everyone who celebrates the holiday a relaxing evening and pleasant Christmas tomorrow.
It seems odd to be in Brazil, I’ve become accustomed to our tradition of hosting a cocktail party in Boston for friends and feel like I should be running to the liquor and grocery store right about now. However, I want to let friends (near and far) know that my thoughts are with them even though we are miles apart.
After I wrote the post about EaterBoston’s list of restaurants open and serving dinner on Christmas Eve they went ahead and created another post, offering tips on where you can go for dinner on Christmas Day. While this is not a complete list, it does give you some options if you are hungry and want to get out of the house.
Santa has been angry at me ever since I bumped into him at The Boatslip Tea Dance in Provincetown this summer and told him he can’t be a Furry Friday until he loses a little more weight.
Did yesterday’s post, The colors of Christmas: Red and Green not quite get you into the Christmas spirit? Maybe you are looking for a more classic holiday combination like silver and gold. Hopefully this will spread some holiday cheer and help you look forward to the Christmas holiday. Now go and stream Michael Bublé’s Christmas album or replay his television special from last week.
