Holiday “Tabata” challenge: It is the time of year when we start to over indulge on a regular basis with holiday parties and feasts week after week. Try this workout before your next big holiday dinner. This will ensure that whatever you are eating (hopefully it is healthy) is actually being used to repair and make your body strong- not being stored as fat.
Here is your pre-holiday feast workout challenge! It is quick and can even be done from home for those of you who may be traveling – so no excuses.
20 consecutive air squats then rest for 10 seconds. Repeat for 8 sets / rounds. It may not sound like much but unless you are a marathon runner this will not only make you tired but it will also make your body use the carbohydrates that you might be consuming with your friends or family later that day.

Despite the fact that I’m currently in Brazil, friendly tips from readers continue to help me keep you posted about life in the South End. Just as I was the first to share with you news about BoMA’s closing earlier this year, I’m happy to be the first to let you know the Elephant Walk South End quietly opened their doors for business this past Sunday evening. News of their opening came to me from two readers, Dave & Owings, who happened to be walking by the restaurant Sunday evening.
While the restaurant has not noted the opening on their website or facebook, and they are not taking reservations on Opentable.com yet, look for these updates in the days that follow. I will be in Brazil through the holidays so at this point I have no further details to offer, but if you do check out Elephant Walk let me know your thoughts about the décor, menu and food.

Not sure if you happened to see this video on YouTube, but Daddyhunt has a new app for your phone. I’m not sure at what point these apps all become more or less filled with the same guys, but I do think the clip is funny.
My only suggestion to those of you who may be tempted to download this or turn on other similar apps when you’re out is to try making eye contact with someone and saying, “Hello”. It is a tried and true tradition that just might surprise you if you can muster the confidence and give it a try.
South Boston’s most talked about public space, The Lawn on D, is planning some outdoor fun on Saturday and Sunday, December 27-28. Organizers are calling the Winter on D programming “Fire and Ice Festival”.
Boston Magazine writes that The Lawn on D will be “transformed into a winter wonderland during the daytime portions of the festival, with “hotter” entertainment lined up for the evenings.” The “icy” features from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days will include the following:
• A winter-themed pavilion with ice bar serving beer, wine, and hot cocoa
• A giant five-foot-tall, 50′ x-50′ ice labyrinth with ice sculpture designs
• Food trucks (Stoked Pizza and more TBA)
Evening programming from 5 to 8 p.m. include:
• Live fire art performers from American Repertory Theater and the Oberon
• Free chowder samples from Legal Sea Foods
• Propane fire pits will be set up for visitors to warm up around

In January one of the largest LGBT ski events on the east coast will take place in Stowe, VT. The five day party known as Winter Rendezvous includes a little something for everyone ranging from downhill skiing, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, sleigh rides and bonfires in addition to fantastic après-ski options like wine tastings, an indoor pool party, dance parties and much more.
