Provincetown live performances

Well Strung will perform at the Art House in Provincetown June 30 - Sept 7

Well Strung will perform at the Art House in Provincetown June 30 – Sept 7th

One of the things I love about Provincetown is this little seaside village offers more nightly live performances than some major cities in the United States. Should you plan a trip to Ptown do yourself a favor and check out one of the many live performances that takes place every night.

What makes this all the more special is that these are not traveling productions of Broadway Shows you can see when they come through your hometown.  These are shows that are geared to the overwhelmingly gay audience that comes to support the local arts scene ranging from drag queens like Varla Jean Merman to cabaret at the Post Office.

Some shows are performed only one night a week, like The Gold Dust Orphans, Pornocchio, performed every Tuesday at 8PM at The Provincetown Theatre.  Others have shows multiple nights a week like Miss Richfield 1981 who performs at The Crown & Anchor. Then there are those special performances that take place just a couple nights in the summer like Tony Award Winner, Sutton Foster, who will perform at the Art House, for three shows only during 4th of July Week.

If you have any questions about performers or shows in Provincetown, feel free to shoot me an email. I’ll do my best to provide you with suggestions.

5 Types of Guys on Instagram

Instagram GuysWhen I watched this video last week it already had over 700,000 views so many of you may have already seen this.  Regardless, it is funny and worth watching.  Note that there is some swearing so keep the volume down if you are watching at work or near someone who might be offended.

If you really liked this, check out the follow up video 6 Types of Girls on Instagram.

Margaret Cho

Margaret Cho TwitterLast week I was posting messages from celebrities who wished Boston a happy pride on my blog. Among the mix was a personal favorite, Margaret Cho.  As I do with most of my posts, I tweeted Ms. Cho’s message of support and thanked her.  A few minutes later Margaret Cho’s handle appeared in my feed and now I have Margaret Cho following me.  I’m not bragging as much as I’m just sharing, because I think that is pretty damn cool. I love Margaret.

2013 Boston Pride

Chandler Street Block PartyBoston Pride wrapped up this past weekend and I’m exhausted.  After an ominous start to the second weekend of Pride, the sun came out and Saturday and Sunday turned out to be spectacular.  For those who were nice enough to pose for a photograph, thank you.  Here is my video of Pride Week here in Boston including events hosted by The Boston Pride Committee, AIDS Action Committee, The Theater Offensive, and The Welcoming Committee.

NYC hunk

NY TaxisDo you remember this handsome hunk?

While trolling the internet and cheering on the Red Sox (I too can multi-task) I stumbled upon this photo of this bare chested piece of eye candy.

I immediately recognized him as the object of my affection from a post last month where he was wearing a grey wife beater in this post.

Handsome and a killer body? Please tell me he’s never tasted ice cream.

Pride Block Party in Back Bay

Boston Pride Back Bay Dance PartyJust in case you have not danced enough, The Boston Pride Committee will host another block party – this time in the Back Bay.  Of all the events that Boston Pride has hosted over the years, this event more than any others has grown and become an unofficial closing event in my mind for the week long celebration.Boston PrideEach year this block party seems to get bigger and better. The party is on St. James Street, runs from 12pm – 8pm and has a $10 suggested donation with proceeds going to benefit Boston Pride Week.

Any questions about his event, email me at bosguymail@gmail.com.

Restaurant review: Boston Chops

Boston ChopsLast weekend Boston Chops opened for brunch.  The menu includes a half dozen traditional breakfast items, a section of grilled steaks and sandwiches as well as raw bar and a selection of salads.

The menu also has a number of cocktails including a bloody Mary selection that allows patrons to choose how spicy they like their drinks (served rare, medium or well done). I started with a Charred Shishito Bloody Mary served with a wedge of lemon, pepper jack cheese and a charred Shishito pepper ($10).  My request to have it made “Medium” provided just enough kick for me.

While I was tempted to try Boston Chops burger it was too early and so I opted for one of the healthier items on the menu, the kale omelet with mushroom and cheddar and a side of potatoes. While the omelet didn’t appear to have any mushrooms, it was both filling and delicious and really helped balance the spicy cocktail I continued to sip through out breakfast.

My dining partner in crime, Sergio, opted to try Boston Chops French Toast which came served with a mixed berry compote that the menu refers to as a ‘seasonal marmalade’ and a generous serving of Rhum Anglaise that is unbelievably rich and sinfully delicious. The marmalade was so good I put a spoonful on my side of toast and had to refrain from taking extra spoonfuls when Sergio was not looking.

If ordering a full plate of French Toast seems too decadent (it really isn’t though) but you want something sweet, check out the sides like Chops house made donuts in chocolate sauce or Pecan sticky buns $7 each.

Boston Chops is open for brunch Saturday and Sunday from 10am – 3pm.  While reservations may not be necessary these first few weekends it is still a safe bet.  I thoroughly enjoyed my food and will be returning again and again.

Boston Chops is located at 1375 Washington Street in Boston’s South End.

Karmin at Boston Pride today

Boston PrideBack in early April I wrote that Karmin would be headlining Boston Pride’s Festival on Saturday, June 8th. The duo, who recently moved from Boston where they met at Berkeley School of Music to pursue what has turned out to be a successful career as pop musicians, will most likely play their 2012 hit Hello.

You can see up close how handsome Nick Noonan (one half of Karmin) is if you head down to Government Center later today, following the conclusion of the Boston Pride parade.

Chandler Street Block Party tomorrow

Chandler Street Block PartyFollowing Boston’s Pride parade tomorrow,  the annual Chandler Street Block Party will open.  This is not an official Boston Pride event and competes with the Pride Festival in Government Center that includes Berkeley Music duo Karmin.

Hopefully the annual Street Dance & Block Party will have resolved the issues they had last year with excessive lines and not enough cold beverages.  Proceeds from this event go to benefit The AIDS Action Committee.  The outdoor dance party runs from 1:30pm – 7pm  and has a $15 cover.

Debbie Gibson wishes Boston Happy Pride

Boston PrideDebbie Gibson created a quick video to voice her support and wish everyone in Boston a happy Pride. Ms. Gibson may be somewhat of a mystery to some of my  readers, but I’ll always have a soft spot in my hear for this woman who played the good girl to her pop music rival, bad girl, Tiffany (who I also secretly loved in high school).

Kathy Griffin wishes Boston Happy Pride

Boston PrideFunny looking lady Kathy Griffin and a favorite of the gay community wishes everyone in Boston a happy Pride. I love Kathy Griffin and hope she comes back to Boston soon, but til then check out her quick video courtesy of Boston Pride.
