Flashback Friday

Flashback FridayBoston Area Gay and Lesbian Youth (BAGLY) officially forms in 1980 making it  the first youth run organization in Boston. BAGLY continues today as the second oldest continuously running youth organization in the country. Talk about Boston Strong.  I can’t imagine the courage these teenagers must have had to be out and proud in the early 1980s.

BosGuy brain teaser

RiddleEach Friday morning I post a riddle to try to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain.

If you are stumped, share it with a friend or colleague and try to figure it out together.  I’ll confirm answers in the afternoon so don’t worry if you don’t see your comment posted right away. I want to give everyone a chance to guess.

This week’s brain teaser: If you take away the first letter of this five letter word it still sounds the same.  If you take away the last letter of this five letter word it still sounds the same. Even if you take away the middle letter of this five letter word it still sounds the same.  What five letter word am I?

Hal Sparks wishes Boston Happy Pride

Boston PrideHal Sparks, comedian and actor, is perhaps best known in the gay community as Michael Novotny.  The idealistic gay man and best friend to Brian Kinney in Showtimes’ series Queer As Folk (2000 – 2005).  This straight ally and all around funny-man has also sent wishes for a Happy Pride to everyone in Boston in this homemade video.

All that and a bag of chips

Royal Marines DancingStraight guys are so strange.  The YouTube video below claims to be the Royal Marines.  This group of guys spend a few minutes bumping and grinding in their skivvies to Eric Prydze’s “Call On Me”.  I’m kind of at a loss for words.  According to the post on Manhunt Daily, the guys rehearsed for hours. To that I can only say Oy Vey.

Kelly Rowland wishes Boston Happy Pride

Boston PrideMs. Rowland just sent Boston a message of support and love, wishing all of us a very happy Pride here this week.  I wouldn’t want to disappoint Kelly so I plan on making the most of this week’s celebrations no matter what Mother Nature has in store for us.  I’ve lived through rainy Pride weekends before and so will you so be sure to get out and enjoy the next few days.

Pride Night at Fenway Park

Boston PrideTomorrow night Boston Pride hosts their first ever “Pride Night @ Fenway Park”.  My compliments to Boston’s Pride Committee for recognizing this as a great opportunity to be out in the community and enjoy one of Boston’s most cherished institutions – our Red Sox.

More information about this event can be found here.

In 2011 the Boston Red Sox were one of the first professional sports teams to make a video for the Trevor Project to help raise awareness about bullying.

The great Republican hope is no friend of the gays

DOMAConsidering it is Pride Week here in Boston, I thought it is important to note that not all politicians in Washington, D.C. have “evolved”.  Shame on Rubio. Floridians and Americans in general deserve representatives who will represent all of their constituents.  One would think a Latino like Rubio would be more progressive and understand the fundamental unfairness of exclusionary politics.

Ross Matthews wishes Boston Happy Pride

Boston PrideI’ve loved Ross Matthews since he first appeared on Jay Leno as a “special correspondent”.  However, today I’m more likely to see him on Chelsea Handler’s evening program on E TV, Chelsea Lately.

Regardless of where he is, he always makes me laugh so I was pretty excited to see his video wishing everyone in Boston a Happy Pride this year.

Boys will be boys

practical jokersThis photo of these two guys goofing off gave me a good laugh, and I hope it does the same for you. It just goes to show you that no matter how old guys get, most of us remain practical jokers who will continue to make penis jokes.

Prancercise

PrancerciseI couldn’t stop laughing watching Joanna Rohrback talk about Prancercise, which she describes as “a springy, rhythmic way of moving forward, similar to a horse’s gait and is ideally induced by elation.” I can’t make this stuff up if I tried those are the exact words in the video description.

I’m only sorry to let this entrepreneur know that she’s a bit late to the game if she thinks she’s invented such a movement.  Disagree? Come down to Boston’s Pride Parade this Saturday and you’ll see thousands of drag queens (some dressed just like this woman) “prancercising” their way along the parade route. Check out this video.
