Winter has arrived at Precinct Kitchen + Bar

game of thrones, Precinct Bar + Kitchen, Boston LoewsLooking for something a little out of the ordinary? If you are a Game of Thrones fan, check out the bar and patio at Precinct Kitchen + Bar in the Loews Boston Hotel. The space has temporarily been transformed into the three great houses of Westeros, including Stark, Lannister and Targaryen. The transformation of the space is started on Thursday, January 10th and will run through Saturday, February 2nd so you have some time to get over to the Loews and check it out.

In keeping with the theme, the restaurant’s menu has been modified. Couples or friends who have a really healthy appetite can order and try to eat, “The Mountain” a 32 oz. Tomahawk Ribeye accompanied by several sides and “Dracarys” (Flor de Cana Rum 4 year, Lime Juice, Simple Syrup and Muddled Dragon Fruit). For those who really want to live the full experience you can also reserve a one-of-a-kind guestroom inspired by the HBO drama. Lyric Stage presents The Wolves

bosarts, boston theater, local theater It is opening night for the Lyric Stage Company’s first production of 2019, The Wolves, an off Broadway hit that first opened in 2016 and was a finalist for the 2017 Pulitzer for best drama. The play will run through February 3, 2019 so even if you cannot get to the show this weekend (a limited number of tickets remain available) you can still make plans to see this show.

The play centers on the experiences of a high school girls soccer team who are going through their Saturday morning pre-game warm ups. The play opens with the girls talking about a Cambodian murderer with overlapping dialogue that vacillates between individual conversations and the main topic that they all intermittently comment upon. These side conversations include period gossip, talk of boys, their coach who is hungover and speculations about the “new” girl.

Find time to make plans with friends and see this production. Not only will an evening out for dinner (or drinks) and a show be a great way to pass an evening but it will also support a local theater company that is worthy of your patronage.

BosGuy brain teaser

Some of you may recall this riddle which I post around this time each year.

This week’s brain teaser:  I have a home and a big space, I have keys but I have no locks, I have lots of letters but I have no mailbox. What am I?

Vintage gay

Peter Watson, Cecil Beaton, Robert Heber-PercyThe photo above shows Cecil Beaton, Oliver Watson and Peter Watson in the 1930s. Apparently these three raised more than a few eyebrows as they flaunted their disregard for social mores. It seems like this was tolerated to a point possibly due to their family’s wealth and influence. There is an interesting read about these men you can check out here.

I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Do you have a photo you would like to share? All I can tell you about Giovani is that he is a travel photographer who is based in Rio de Janeiro and that he takes some absolutely breathtaking photos. His feed is filled with gorgeous landscapes and while he loves the beach he also has some spectacular photos of nature.
