Happy Anniversary Massachusetts

Same Sex MarriageNine years ago today Massachusetts became the first state in the United States to perform same sex marriage.  At the time, the majority of the country made a pariah out of “liberal Massachusetts” saying our state was making a mockery of the institution of marriage.

Fast forward nine years later and Massachusetts continues to have one of the lowest divorce rates of any state in the US and the majority of Americans now support same sex marriage.  Additionally, all six New England states now recognize and perform same sex marriage in addition to  Washington, D.C. and five other states. Much work remains, but the progress is undeniable.

Happy Anniversary to all those couples who got married nine years ago.

Minnesota says yes to marriage equality and Michelle Bachman goes on suicide watch

Minnesota Same Sex MarriageAlthough its petty of me, I love this has happened in the state that Michele Bachmann represents in Congress.  For those not familiar with her, first let me say “lucky you”. Bachmann has spent much of her career blaming natural disasters, terrorist attacks, etc… on the “Gay Agenda”.  I’m pretty sure if a dictionary was a picture book (probably something Bachmann would endorse), if you looked up words like homophobe, racist, or xenophobe, you’d find this demented Congresswoman smiling back at you with a vacant / kind of crazy look in the eye – unsure of what I mean check out her photo below from Newsweek.

So it is with a bit of glee that I say bravo to Minnesota for joining the 21st Century and moving a step closer to legalizing same sex marriage, and with a bit of spite that I suggest putting Michele Bachmann in a padded room.  Let’s just say we are going to keep her under surveillance out of concern she may hurt herself when her tiny brain realizes what’s happened back in Minnesota.

I think I need a bath

gayStanding at 6’2″ / 187 cm, I find most bath tubs uncomfortable but maybe it might be easier if I stuck one of my legs out like this guy. I need to test this out with Sergio.

Paul Richmond’s Cheesecake Boys

Paul RichmondOhio-based artist, Paul Richmond, is currently being featured on HuffPost’s Gay News section here. Putting  a twist on gender stereotypes with his “Cheesecake Boys” series Richmond depicts men in roles traditionally portrayed by women.  Among those images featured is this cute rendition of Albany-based blogger and part-time Bostonian, Alan Ilagan. Is that Ptown or Ogunquit Alan?

I love the colors and depictions that gives a nod to early and mid 20th century pin-up artwork.  You can see the other depictions from Paul Richmond and read about this talented artist, here

Probably Gay, the Homophobia Song

Probably gay, the homophobic songCheck out this hilarious video from Katie Goodman’s Broad Comedy was posted last year.  I hadn’t seen this until JoeMyGod brought my attention to it.  I love the chorus “If you’re homophobic, you’re probably gay.

New England becomes first region to legalize same sex marriage

HRC RI Marriage Equality LogoLast week Rhode Island (RI) became the 10th state in the United States to recognize same sex marriage.  RI’s move to legalize gay marriage makes New England (MA, NH, ME, VT, CT and RI) the first region in the United States to recognize marriage equality as a fundamental right.

Six of the Ten states that now recognize same sex marriage are in New England – 60% of the entire country at the moment.   If you throw neighboring New York into the mix that means 70% of all states that recognize marriage equality that accounts for an astounding 70%.

Any doubt what part of the US is the most progressive and open? Now if the rest of the country could join us in the 21st century…

Suddenly it makes sense

Suddenly it makes senseIt has been a while since my last suddenly it makes sense post. I couldn’t resist when I saw this rather bizarre photo.  At first I thought he was a contortionist before I realized he was balancing a guy’s family jewels on his head.  I wish I had the photo from the other side too. I can only imagine where his face is.
