Cirque du Soleil’s Scottish Fantasy

Scottish FantasyMen in kilts are damned sexy and everyone knows it.  Just as every man looks like he’s a bit taller and has broader shoulders when they slip into a tuxedo, there is something incredibly masculine about a man wearing this traditional Scottish garb and Cirque du Soleil knows it.

Cirque du Soleil recently released this behind the scenes video entitled “Scottish Fantasy” to promote their show Zumanity in Las Vegas.  If you’ve not seen the clip, feel free to check it out below.

ManRay / Campus might reopen this summer

CampusRumors are swirling that the popular fetish / gay bar will re-open this summer not far from its original home in Cambridge.  Cambridge Day reported the rumors earlier this week and the news was quickly picked up by Boston Restaurant Talk  and the Boston Hospitality blog.

Cambridge Day reports in their post on January 8th, “Man Ray owner Don Holland never stopped trying to resurrect the famed Central Square nightclub. Under threat of losing his restaurant and alcohol license, he said Tuesday that he believed he’s succeeded.  The location: Central Square’s former Blockbuster video, a 5,000-square-foot space at 541 Massachusetts Ave.

ManRayI met my partner on one of the gay nights at ManRay (a fetish bar), which was called “Campus” on Thursdays and Saturdays when the crowd was mostly gay.  I loved the whole layout with the lounge that had pool tables, the backroom dance floor which would play music from bands like Siouxsie and The Banshees, Depeche Mode and XTC and the main dance floor in the front where DJs would mix the latest pop and dance hits.  I was so sad when I heard the bar closed because the landlord sold the property to be made into condos.

I’ll be keeping tabs on the nightclub’s website, www.manrayclub.com.

Majority opinion used by many at same sex marriages

Justice Margaret Marshall

An article in The Boston Globe yesterday mentioned that a particular excerpt from Massachusetts landmark decision in Goodridge vs. Department of Public Health continues to be a popular reading at same sex marriages all over the US.

After reading the article in the Boston Globe I can see why it has remained so popular with civil marriages for same sex partners.  I’ve taken the text from the image above and added it below to make it easier for you to read.

“Civil marriage is at once a deeply personal commitment to another human being and a highly public celebration of the ideals of mutuality, companionship, intimacy, fidelity, and family…  Because it fulfills yearnings for security, safe haven, and connection that express our common humanity, civil marriage is an esteemed institution, and the decision whether and whom to marry is among life’s momentous acts of self-definition.”

Abdominal work out from the 80s

1980s work outBlogger, Ajax in the City posted this abdominal work out video from the 80’s on his blog.  I keep expecting Olivia Newton John to come walking out singing “Physical”. The entire clip is totally ridiculous, but I couldn’t help but watch it all the way through. I should ask my personal trainer for his thoughts.  😉

Long johns

pajamasIt is chilly here in Boston with temperatures already below freezing so it is time to break out your long johns.

I know that many of my readers insist they prefer to sleep au naturale, but I find that incredibly impractical at this time of year in Boston where night time temperatures are freezing.

So grab your long johns or better yet, grab yourself a guy in his long johns.  This guy looks like he’d do just fine. Have a good night all.

New Study on Penis Size and Condom Usage

Hunter College in New York collected data in 2010 from nearly 500 gay and bisexual men and the findings of their report will be published in the February 2013 issue of Archives of Sexual Behavior.

The study asked gay and bisexual men if “the comfort and fit of a condom has an impact on them having safer sex.”  The study concluded the larger the man’s penis size, the higher the rate of condom failure, and the more likely he was to forgo condom usage. Most gay clubs / bars in the US already make condoms available for free, but the study suggests taking an additional step of including larger sized condoms to help encourage safer sex.

A new study from Hunter College’s Center for HIV Educational Studies and Training determined there is a correlation between the size of a gay man’s penis and the likelihood he’ll use a condom.condom_size_chartMore findings from this self-reported study included:

• Nearly 50% of men reported condom slippage during sex.
• Almost 33% reported condom breakage in the past 3 months.
• 40% reported that they did not have a problem finding condoms that fit properly.

Temptation Tuesday

Chris SalvatoreI’m hopping on the bandwagon featuring Chris Salvatore after blogger Alan Ilagan dubbed him “hunk of the day” last week on his blog.  Alan has a few more photos of this guy here.

Favorite photo of 2012: Randell Shepherd and Larry Duncan

I thought Meryl Shcenker’s photos of Randell Shepherd, 48 and Larry Duncan, 56 in Washington State getting married was one of the most touching images of 2012.

I suppose our personal bias makes us see what we want, but I can’t think of a more compelling / touching image that explains why I believe the right to marry who you love is a basic civil right.

Equally touching was the photo of the happy couple arriving at the Seattle First Baptist Church to be married in a group ceremony with 24 other couples; photo also by Meryl Schenkersame sex marriage

Just a hint of color

Sexy And They Show ItPhoto Source: Sexy And They Show It

Winter in Boston can be tough.  Aside from the cold and early setting sun, there is virtually no color  and the city can seem  shrouded in shades of white, grey (and if lucky) blue.

So this post is dedicated to readers in colder climates to help fend off the winter blues.  I think you’ll agree that inserting this bit of color brightens your day.

Obama’s support for same sex marriage is a game changer

Year in rewind: BosGuy’s favorite posts from 2012

In May, Obama made history as the first sitting US President to voice his support for marriage equality; for me it solidified my flagging support.  I immediately inserted his quote to this photograph and watched proudly as the image went viral on a number of national blogs.

*****

Obama Marriage EqualityPresident Obama “came out” in support of same sex marriage yesterday.  Why he chose now and how he got to this point is irrelevant to me. What does matter is a sitting President is on record supporting marriage equality, and that is a game changer for three crucial reasons.

First, although his support does not change Federal Law, having the public support of the highest elected official in the country matters (and it matters a lot).  When Massachusetts legalized Same Sex Marriage on May 17, 2004 it was only because incremental changes  and advancements which had started years before came to fruition.  Obama’s support is more than an incremental advancement.

Obama’s standing within the African American, Black and Arabic communities here and abroad is without equal.  These communities have long been some of the most vocal opposing same sex marriage. Obama’s endorsement and framing the issue as one of equality and fairness will have significant impact on these communities. No doubt there will be some heated sermons in traditionally black churches this Sunday through out the United States.

Lastly, Obama has set a standard which all future Presidential nominees will now be found wanting if they don’t support marriage equality. While this will fire up those opposed to same sex marriage; I believe this is still a gain for the President and for states currently debating legalizing same sex marriage.  Americans love to support winners and the prejudicial arguments to oppose same sex marriage is sounding more and more like a losing argument.  Obama’s support is a game changer.

Daniel Garofali

Daniel GarofaliIts a gloomy day here in Boston and I need something to inspire me. Ever since I first saw / met Daniel Garofali in Sydney in December 2009, I’ve been smitten.  Back then Daniel was a go-go boy at some of Sydney’s biggest gay clubs.

Here are two video clips I took of Daniel dancing back-up at Sydney’s Drag! Camp as Christmas performance back in 2009; I’ve got the music in me and Hot stuff.  There is much more of Daniel also featured on UnderwearExpert.com.

2012 Atlantis Caribbean Cruise on the Allure

Year in rewind: BosGuy’s favorite posts from 2012

To celebrate my partner’s birthday, I saved all during 2011 to surprise him with a cruise to celebrate.  Attending a gay cruise had been on his bucket list. This was first published in Feb 2012.

I’ve recently returned from my first cruise.  There were eight of us in total who joined thousands of gay men from around the world for the Atlantis seven day cruise through the Western Caribbean.

Perhaps you’re curious to see what one of these cruises is like. It’s impossible to capture everything; there’s too much to see and do, but here is a quick video of my take on the 2012 Atlantis Caribbean Cruise aboard Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas.

Post holiday clean up
