Gay Bear State of the Union: Election 2012

This video is just as interesting without the volume in my opinion but for those looking to increase their gay vocabulary you can listen to this Blue Bear’s riff.

Ms. Coco Peru goes to Target

Are you heading out this weekend to get Halloween candy? If you visit your local Target go into their costume aisle and see if you can find the “Coco Peru” look alike wig they are apparently selling.

Ms. Coco Peru recently released a video of her shopping excursion at her local Target (in West Hollywood) to see if she could find the infamous wig.  If you’re a fan of hers you’ll enjoy this clip from Coco.

The Welcoming Committee

Earlier this month, those crazy kids over at The Welcoming Committee announced their first “Take Over” event down at Foxwoods Casino.  Starting tonight, prices for this event will increase a bit so I wanted to give anyone contemplating the trip a bit of a nudge.

After all, who doesn’t love a wicked good bargain?

You may read more about all the fun on The Welcoming Committee blog.  Rooms are available for you to reserve for you (and your friends), but they also have created a roommate link for those looking to split costs and save the extra cash for drinks and the casino (isn’t that thoughtful of them?) Roommate Info Here.

Lastly, here is the link to buy tickets to the takeover.

10 Rules for sexy gay halloween costumes

Halloween is one of those holidays that some people look forward to all year, and by “some people” what I’m really saying is “The Gays” to quote Kathy Griffin.

Orlando Soria who writes the homemaker blog, penned a funny post earlier this month 10 Rules for sexy gay homosexual halloween costumes.  I love how Orlando clarifies at the start of his post by writing, “included are ten tips for making your costume sexy. And yes, by “sexy” I mean offensively revealing and slutty.”

Incidentally the photo above was snagged from Orlando’s post and is a good example of his second rule, rely on cultural stereotypes.  You can check out the rest of his post here.

Words matter

Wanted to revisit a rather important moment for me this past May.

Boston’s Point Foundation Cornerstone event

On Thursday the Boston chapter of the Point Foundation celebrated their 6th annual Boston Cornerstone event at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.  The Point Foundation empowers promising LGBTQ students to achieve their full academic and leadership potential.  They are the nation’s largest scholarship-granting organization for LGBTQ students.  If you would like to learn more about this great foundation link here.

Congratulations to this year’s award recipients.

October 19th is Spirit Day

Ben CohenToday is Spirit Day, an annual day of recognition in the US when millions wear purple and speak out against bullying.

Ben Cohen’s Stand Up Foundation, which speaks out against bullying and places a special emphasis on LGBT youth who are disproportionately singled out, is a good example of an organization that is talking about bullying and working to make life for kids better.  While Spirit Day was started by GLAAD and is predominantly focused on schools in the US I wanted to use the day to encourage anyone – no matter where you may be to embrace this day, because ignoring this problem won’t make it go away.

Cluck Off Chick-fil-A

chick-fil-aSource:  Queerty

Just for the record, I’m still clucking ticked with Chick-fil-A about their CEO’s statements about traditional marriage and homosexuality.  While I don’t begrudge Mr. Cathy or his firm the right to speak their mind, I also feel equally strong about telling them to Cluck Off.

That’s all for now. I feel better already.

The Week – Sao Paulo

Sao Paulo Gay Night LifeNext month I’ll be visiting friends in Sao Paulo and while we have not made any plans we usually end up going to The Week.  This nightclub has the distinction of being my absolute favorite gay club in the world. I’ve never seen a place that is its equal and doubt I will now that my clubbing days are fewer and fewer.

The Week is a massive night club in Sao Paulo (20,000+ sq ft). In recent years, they have expanded to Rio de Janeiro and Florianopolis.  I thought I’d share one of the Week’s promo videos to give you a taste of nightlife in Brazil. Should you ever find yourself in SP, put going to The Week on your list of “to-do’s”.

LGBT conference parties w/ TWC (Guerrilla Queer Bar)

The 15th LGBT MBA conference, starts tomorrow (Thursday, Oct 18th) in Boston.  The conference was last held in Boston in 2005 and this year’s event is expected to be much larger with more than 1,000 attendees from North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia.  The goal of this annual conference is to promote the networking, visibility, and education capabilities of LGBT business leaders around the globe.

To all those who are coming to Boston for the event, I’d like to say Welcome!  To those who live in Boston and are trying to think of something different to do this weekend, I’d suggest crashing their party on Friday.  The Conference organizers have joined forces with Boston’s very cool The Welcoming Committee “Guerrilla Queer Bar” and together they will take over Tequila Rain in the Fenway starting at 9pm.  A $5 cover charge discount is available to conference attendees.

For the ADHD: Friday, 9pm at Tequila Rain on Lansdowne St.

Bearz tea dance today

Club Cafe’s Bear Tea Dance starts at 5PM

Are you in denial that tomorrow is Monday and want to savor the weekend?  Check out the Tea Dance later this afternoon.  Just remember to protect your honey… you know how those bears love your honey.

National Coming Out Day

This post is dedicated to the millions of men & women who cannot be true to themselves and live the life they deserve because of political and religious pressures that tell them they are wrong.

No matter how comfortable you try to make it – it is still a closet and you deserve so much more.  To quote Dan Savage, It gets better

I’ve chosen to use today to reflect upon how my life changed after I chose to come out.  My reasons for staying in the closet were many but mostly due to a feeling of deep and abiding shame perpetuated by my religious affiliation, how I saw homosexuality portrayed on television and addressed by religious and political leaders and lastly a sense of isolation that is hard to imagine in this age.

What changed? I got fed up and the isolation I felt melted away. Not everyone’s story is as positive as mine and there are places in the world where one must remain closeted for one’s own safety.  For those men and women, I dedicate this post as a sign that hopefully the changes underway here in the US will ripple out and help kick down the closet door.  Want to read more about National Coming Out Day?  America Blog has a great article here.

Sean Patrick Davey

Sean Patrick Davey:  My latest obsession

Sean Patrick Davey is originally from Minneapolis but now calls NYC home.  His stats read as follows: 6’4″, red hair, hazel eyes, 204lbs. Photos of Sean regularly grace gay blogs so I figured I was overdue and should come forward to admit I’m completely obsessed with this handsome Midwesterner.

If you too find yourself smitten there is a blog you’ll love >> link here.

Photo of the day: Golden Penises

Hard to imagine what is going on here. Perhaps Scott – blogger from Bill in Exile needed some accent decor for his new nightclub in Seattle, Q Nightclub. Then again, perhaps not, from the photos he’s posted, it seems like the club already has enough of the real thing.
