Delta Airlines Sky Mall

While flying back from NYC last week, I perused Delta Airlines’ Sky Mall catalog.  You may recall on previous trips to NYC I’ve commented on some of the more bizarre items for sale.  Recent posts from this year include Strolling down the Delta Sky Mall Aisle and What not to buy.

The late spring issue of Delta’s Sky Mall had a number of bizarre options.  Here are a couple that caught my attention.

Cupcake Rug $29.95

I can’t imagine walking into a house decorated with sweets and candy themed carpeting.  Perhaps this would work for Willy Wonka but for anyone else I would assume this level of obsession must be a precursor to obesity.

Portable Infrared Sauna $399.99

Sky Mall suggests you simply “sit back and just say ahhhh to in-home relaxation.”  I’m not exactly sure what is so relaxing about being zipped inside a giant plastic box that cost me $400.

My response: You have to be kidding me.

Opus Affair social tonight

Looking for something fun to do tonight? Are you aware of tonight’s event hosted by Opus Affair? They will be hosting their monthly cocktails reception at Back Bay’s Speakeasy / Nightclub, Storyville, located in the space previously occupied by Saint at 90 Exeter Street.

Who is Opus Affair?

Opus Affair is an informal social group mostly comprised of artists and art enthusiasts / patrons in their 20s and 30s.  It is a very social and friendly group who have made me (a 40-something) feel very welcome when I’ve attended in the past.

Monday 6-9PM Storyville at 90 Exeter Street

Tonight’s program at Storyville is one part social and one part fundraiser.  Opus Affair asks that you RSVP (no cost) and encourages you to vote ($10 per vote) for one of three charities.  One of these three charities names will be drawn during the social and receive the amount raised by votes for tonight’s event. There is more information about these charities and to RSVP here.

Men of Twitter

Each Monday I blog about Twitter profiles which catch my eye and whom I think you may enjoy following. As always, suggestions are welcome. If you’d like to follow me on twitter, you can find me @BosGuy. You can find me talking about past Men of Twitter by searching #MenOfTwitter.

This week has a European theme with two handsome men that are friends and currently residing in Germany.

Felix_Barca – Felix is originally from Barcelona Spain but currently lives in  Cologne Germany where he works as an assistant for an international company. However that is simply a job that pays the bills, there is more than meets the eye with this Spaniard (both literally and figuratively), who dabbles in the gay adult industry. Felix is very friendly on Twitter so be sure to check him out and say hello.

PhillipAntony1 – This handsome Englishman currently lives in Germany, but will likely move back to London this summer.  Phillip was born to entertain and he’s done plenty of that as a dancer on a cruise ship as well as a performer in a number of recognizable musicals including: Chicago, Mamma Mia and most recently Dirty Dancing.  If you’re a Londoner, look for this handsome young man come July.

Creepy Easter Bunny

Frightening Easter photos are common but this bunny in particular looked so creepy I couldn’t help but post it. One can’t help but sympathize with this little kid who looks terrified.

To be heard

If you don’t learn to write your own life story,

someone else will write it for you.

As I mentioned previously, April is National Poetry Month so when I happened to see To be heard on PBS I was glued to my television.  This documentary tracks three teenagers from the South Bronx as they tell their stories of friendship, love and struggle, and show how a radical poetry class inspires them to change.  The documentary also shows how language and in particular poetry brings people together.

Happy Easter

A few years back when Sergio and I were still living in the Back Bay, a rather eccentric neighbor of ours was raising “show bunnies”… Yup, you heard me correctly.  Without going into too much detail, we were allowed to play with these little guys from time to time. This has become my go-to Easter photo.

Easter Peep Show

Here’s a little Easter humor in advance of the holiday tomorrow.

Aizhai Suspension Bridge in China

Check out this breathtaking photograph of the world’s highest and longest tunnel-to-tunnel bridge.  It recently opened in central China.

The Aizhai suspension bridge links two tunnels 1,176 meters apart (nearly 3,900′), carrying traffic 355 meters (nearly 1,200′) high.  The bridge is really beautiful. If you are into this sort of thing, you can see more photos by linking here.

Ouch!

If you laugh after watching this quick video you and I share the same devious sense of humor.

Enjoy the Easter weekend

Have fun decorating your Easter Eggs if you happen to be into that sort of thing. Should you be celebrating Easter – be sure to leave out plenty of carrots for the Easter Bunny.

If Romney is such a great businessman why is he so out of step with the business community

The depths of despicability NOM has sunk is not news, nor is the fact that Mitt Romney donated $10,000 to this organization a few years ago .

What is news is the growing divide between corporate America and Romney. His support of organizations like NOM shows his “business-friendly” policies are limited to tax breaks only.  To paraphrase Microsoft, Romney’s views and support of NOM are “bad for business.”

Microsoft’s support for LGBT marriage equality in WA

Microsoft is by no means alone in their opposition to organizations like NOM.  Many of our country’s largest and most admired firms (e.g. Apple, Starbucks, TJX, etc)  have become more outspoken for marriage equality and LGBT acceptance.  In recent years, these firms have shifted from providing a ‘welcome’ workplace to advocating for LGBT rights.

Romney’s support for NOM deserves your disdain.

If asked, no I’m not a huge fan of Obama’s but I’ll take my chances with a candidate who isn’t bankrolling organizations like NOM.  Screw the economy, I have bigger issues like dignity and personal pride – voting for a candidate who supports organizations like NOM is bad for American business and even worse for those hoping for a more inclusive America.

Furry Friday

On a whim a couple of weeks ago I posted a photo of a guy with a hairy chest and entitled it “Furry Friday”.  In truth, I was not in the mood to write anything and in my defense the guy featured was very handsome; decide for yourself by checking out the initial post here.

Fast forward a few weeks and the emails, comments and Tweets I’ve received has led me to believe many may prefer these posts. Unlike the earlier posts, I’ve actually met this guy and had featured him as a #MenOfTwitter.  Here is a more recent picture which he forward me this week. I think you’ll agree he’s an excellent candidate for a Furry Friday post.  Should you also be on Twitter check him out @AtlantaStud.

BosGuy brain teaser

BosGuyEach Friday morning I post a riddle or some sort of brain teaser. Due to some last minute business travel, I didn’t get a chance to try and figure out this week’s riddle, but perhaps you will.  As usual, I’ll post or confirm the answer starting in the afternoon, but please do share your thoughts in the comments section.

In a far away land, it was known if you drank poison, the only way to save yourself was to drink a stronger poison to neutralize the weaker poison. The king of this far away land wanted to have the strongest poison possible so he commanded his pharmacist and treasurer to make the strongest poison they could. He gave each a week to concoct their poison then each would drink the other’s poison. The one who survived, he surmised would have made the strongest poison in the land.

The treasurer knew the pharmacist was much more experienced so he made up a plan to survive and ensure the pharmacist would die. On the last day the pharmacist suddenly realized the treasurer would know he had no chance, and after a little thought he realized what the treasurer would do. When the king summoned them to drink the poisons the treasurer died and the pharmacist survived, but the king didn’t get what he wanted.

What exactly happened?

BosGuy cooks chicken with cous cous

Mango coconut chicken

with lemon scented cous cous & cranberries

This meal will feed 3-4 people, takes 30 minutes from start to finish (including clean up) and costs approximately $15. For my dinner I also included a salad and steamed broccoli. Before you start cooking combine your chicken and marinade. From everything I read one should do this the night before, but I let this sit for about 10 minutes and it came out fine. I punctured the chicken with a fork then poured a half a cup of the marinade over the chicken strips.

Add the julienned pepper and leek with a splash of chicken broth on medium high heat. The pepper will add color and texture whereas the leek adds flavoring.  Leeks are similar to onions but more mild.  Let this cook for a few minutes then add the chicken.  Once added, turn down the heat to medium, flip every few minutes and keep covered to ensure the chicken does not get dry; cooking time 8-10 minutes; turn off heat and keep covered until you are ready to serve.Once you’ve started to cook the peppers and leeks, in a separate pan add 2 cups of chicken broth, the zest of one lemon on high heat and cover. In a minute this will come to a boil; add 2 cups of cous cous and 1/3 cup of dried cranberries, stir and cover.  I leave burner on the lowest possible setting for about 30 seconds then turn it off and let the cous cous sit covered for 5 minutes. Use a fork to “fluff” before serving this since the grain will clump together.

For our dinner I also steamed broccoli and made a salad with greens, a tomato and walnuts then dressed it with a honey vinaigrette and olive oil.  Don’t be frightened by the size of the steamed broccoli on my plate (I love broccoli). The meal is satisfying without the sides, but I prefer dinner with a salad and lots of veggies.

David Gandy for Banana Republic Mad Men collection

Although this is hardly breaking news, I couldn’t resist to post a few photos David Gandy who has been tapped by Banana Republic to be the face (and body) to promote their Mad Men inspired collection. Banana Republic’s new line.  We’ll see what this looks like, but I know I won’t get tired of staring.

Enjoy this latest installment of “Gandy Candy”.
