Are you looking to do something social that gets you outside so you can enjoy the gorgeous weather this weekend? Ironsides is Boston is hosting a rugby boot camp on Saturday morning from 10AM – 1PM and all are welcome.
The Ironsides annual boot camp promises a great workout and may turn you on to the sport of rugby. After boot camp, you can also enjoy the social side of Ironsides as those who are interested generally head to a local bar to hydrate and socialize. A small fee of $25 will get you an Ironsides tank top and beverages at the “drink-up” after boot camp.

About Boston Ironsides: For over 20 years, the Boston Ironsides has brought together men from a tremendous range of backgrounds. We are players just out of college, seasoned rugby veterans, and men of every age who’ve just taken up the sport. We are accountants, engineers, bartenders, designers, students, and more. We are native Bostonians and players from all over this country – and others. We are gay, straight, and somewhere in between. Our differences make us stronger as a team, and every new member adds to that strength.
Tennessee Williams was a Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright who frequented Provincetown. Frank Merlo was a truck driver, part time actor and WWII veteran. He and Williams were romantically linked from 1948 until 1963, when Merlo died of lung cancer. Williams is said to never have recovered from the death of his long time lover and was consumed by depression.
I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Do you have a photo you would like to share? Email me at bosguymail@gmail.com.
It appears that Boston will have two gay kickball leagues starting this September. In an earlier post this summer I wrote about America’s Finest Kickball League which hosted a pick up game earlier this month and will start their season September 17th.
Above is a promo for The Varsity Gay League (VGL) which is a Los Angeles-based gay sports league that operates in California, Texas, Florida, Oregon and Colorado. VGL kickball season starts on September 9th. They will also be hosting free scrimmages August 20th, 27th .

This week on Instagram I’m featuring an account that Sergio showed me. If you love beautiful photography and water, you should definitely follow the Toronto-based photographer, Lucas Murnaghan Instagram account.
Muraghan’s photos are really dramatic and beautiful like this photo he captioned, “all the world’s a stage”.

You scratch my back and I’ll…
The “Free Speech Rally” hosted this past Saturday in Boston could barely muster a couple dozen Libertarians and White Supremacists to the Boston Common. This despicable group who wrapped themselves in our country’s Bill of Rights for the purpose of antagonizing and getting free media were dwarfed by an impressive counter demonstration that police estimate ranged from 30,000 – 40,000 people.
The photo above from @andrewkimmel_Twitter account caused a bit of a stir. Let’s just say that while hate is ugly there is no denying that promoting peace is sexy and Stew is living proof of that. You can follow Stew on Twitter (if you like) here: @Stewart_Driflot.
InTouch Weekly is reporting that former First Lady Michelle Obama will guest star in the reboot of NBC’s Will & Grace, set to premiere this fall. They write:
“Former first lady Michelle Obama will appear on the show,” the insider reveals. “The details are still being worked out, but supposedly Michelle is up for anything, as long as it doesn’t cross the line too much.”
To that I have to say, cross the line Michelle, cross the line. You will certainly be a welcome site for me. If you want to learn more you can read the original report on InTouch Weekly’s website here.
This past week was not a very good week for President Trump but then again it is hard to think of a ‘good week’ since Trump was sworn into office. Unsurprisingly the bad press has not deterred his core supporters (approximately 35% if one is to believe polls that consistently show his support in this range). I presume some of those who support Trump would point to his leadership in business and a perception he is making America stronger, but it is hard to follow this logic.
Executives Flee Trump and Allies Mock Him
In the past week Trump’s business advisory councils have disbanded after an embarrassing exodus of executives. (I wish there was more reporting on the fact that Trump cannot seem to work with business leaders.) Couple that with the fact that in less than 7 months Trump has also managed to alienate or offend some of our longest and strongest allies and it is hard to understand how we are “stronger” than we were a year earlier.
Increasingly Negative Global Perceptions of America
I find it depressing to see the cover of Der Spiegel mirroring recent covers by Time, The New Yorker and even The Economist. I can spot a trend when I see one and this is not a helpful or hopeful trajectory for America. I’m curious how Republicans in Congress will work with Trump when they return to DC in September. They have a very busy calendar with important topics to be discussed ranging from raising the debt ceiling to tax reform. If something (anything) gets done, how will the electorate respond? The 2018 campaign season will be upon us before we realize it and this new normal of illustrating our President as a Nazi or KKK sympathizer cannot be good for anyone – least of all the United States.
