Saturday night video from Postmodern Jukebox

Once again my Saturday night video features Postmodern Jukebox.  I love their cover of Radiohead’s song, Creep, which they released early last month.  The sultry voice is courtesy of Haley Reinhart – enjoy and have a pleasant Saturday.

Tipping etiquette

I’ve been known to vary widely with my tipping; taking extra offense at bad or rude service and adding extra $ when the service is personal or coming from someone I feel like I know. I’ve had people mostly from outside the US reach out to me with questions about tipping in the past so when I saw this chart assembled by waitbutwhy.com I thought I’d share it.

BosGuy brain teaser

brain teaser, rodin, riddleEach Friday morning I post a riddle to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain.  If you are stumped, share it with a friend or colleague and see if you can figure out the answer together.

I’ll confirm answers in the afternoon so don’t worry if you don’t see your comment posted right away.

I want to give everyone a chance to guess.

This week’s riddle:   I am always there some distance away, somewhere between land, sea and sky.  I lay, you may move toward me, yet distant I stay. What am I?

Much thanks to the staff at Trophy Room in Boston for the riddle.

Jae’s Cafe in the South End may be replaced by new restaurant

Jaes Cafe South EndBoston Restaurant Talk blog wrote that Jae’s Cafe on Columbus Avenue in the South End may cease to exist and be replaced by a new restaurant called Shun’s Kitchen.  I have a lot of happy memories at this restaurant but haven’t been there in quite a while.  I thought I’d share the news with my readers who may also have similar happy memories of this restaurant.

…According to a licensing board page within the City of Boston website, Jae’s Cafe in the South End of Boston is seeking to transfer its stock and have new officers, directors, and shareholders for the space, with the Columbus Avenue restaurant being replaced by a new spot called Shun’s Kitchen. If the request is approved, this will be the final location of Jae’s to shut down….Jae’s Cafe, which first opened in the South End approximately 25 years ago, has been known as a spot to get a variety of  Korean, Japanese, and Thai dishes, along with other Asian fare.

The address for Jae’s in the South End (and the proposed Shun’s Kitchen) is 520 Columbus Avenue, Boston, MA, 02118.
