Sherry Vine and Varla Jean Merman

About two years ago Sherry Vine and Varla Jean Merman sat down to chat for a few minutes on Here TV.  I love these two ladies.  Varla Jean performs each summer in Ptown and is back this summer with her new show, Big Black Hole!  Be sure to check out her show at the Ptown Art House.

DJ Danny Tenaglia helps Boston say goodbye to RISE this weekend with final dance party

Danny Tenaglia at Rise BostonAre you ready to say goodbye to Boston’s only after hours club?  After serving Boston for more than fifteen years, RISE Boston will close.  I can still remember when RISE first opened and even though it has been quite a while since I last visited I feel badly that they are closing.

Cty’s are home to many night owls and Boston is no exception.  Hopefully this isn’t a farewell as much as a goodbye for now.  Rest up on Saturday and take your disco nap late in the afternoon so you can head over to RISE Boston one last time this Saturday night / Sunday morning.

Congratulations Susan and Brett

married, marriage, wedding, familyMy youngest sister, Susan, is getting married later today.  I’ll be out of town through Saturday celebrating with family and friends and wanted to say congratulations to both Susan and Brett. I wish them a happy life together and wanted to welcome Brett to my crazy family.

BosGuy brain teaser

brain teaser, rodin, riddleEach Friday morning I post a riddle to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain.  If you are stumped, share it with a friend or colleague and see if you can figure out the answer together.

I’ll confirm answers in the afternoon so don’t worry if you don’t see your comment posted right away.

I want to give everyone a chance to guess.

This week’s riddle:   At the hardware store I was quoted 12 cents for one, 24 cents for 50, and 36 cents for 144. I wanted six. What was I buying and how much did it cost me?

MBTA is free today

Late night serviceLast month MBTA officials announced that passengers boarding buses and trains can ride for free.  The MBTA will leave fare gates open all day — similar to what the T does on New Year’s Eve and the Fourth of July — so that riders can casually walk through and board a vehicle at no cost.  This is a PR campaign meant as an apology for the delays / lack of service that caused major headaches for Bostonians this past winter. While it doesn’t make up for the issues, you may as well make use of the free rides all day today.

Whale mural on Planet Storage building in the South End

public art, Tyson Andree, ink blockThe whale mural that has been visible from the Planet Self Storage building along Boston’s Southeast Expressway since the early 1990s has disappeared from view on I-93 ever since the Troy Boston residential building was erected.  According to a recent story in The Boston Globe, a fourth whale is going to be added to Planet Self Storage building.  The additional whale still won’t be visible to those on the highway but rather will face the Ink Block.

The developer behind the Ink Block, National Development, has commissioned Brookline graffiti artist, Tyson Andree, to spray-paint the new mural on a 15-foot-high by 68-foot-long section of Planet Self Storage’s northern wall, facing the Ink Block. The project should be finished by this weekend.

Boston Chops two year anniversary party

Boston Chops Anniversary PartyLast night Boston Chops rolled out the red carpet (literally) to celebrate their 2nd anniversary.

The party included great food, plenty of alcohol and music. The friendly crowd was comprised of past and present staff, patrons and neighbors. Below are some photographs that Sergio snapped on my behalf from last night’s party.

Thank you to everyone who posed for a photograph and congratulations again to Brian, Chris and the Boston Chops team on the second year anniversary.
