Wine review: Château Richebon Pauillac 2009

Wine Review Chateau Richebon PauillacOn our last night visiting our friends in Grand Cayman, our hosts Steve & Steven prepared us a dinner to remember on Steve’s rooftop deck.  Steve cooked a delicious meal which included both steak and lobster.  Earlier in the evening we popped a bottle of Moët & Chandon, but Steven had also brought along this Bordeaux to enjoy with our dinner.

As a general rule, I’m a big fan of wines from Bordeaux.  After a little digging online I learned this is a Cabernet-heavy blend that also includes Cabernet Franc and Merlot grapes, which explains the full body taste that paired better with the grilled steak than the Caribbean crustacean. I’ve noticed that reviews from other sites concur with my estimations that this is a solid wine that you can readily enjoy and rely upon each year. A quick search online suggested that this retails in the US for approximately $25 – $30 per bottle.

Boston Ballet presents Lady of the Camellias

Lady of the CamelliasThursday, February 26th the Boston Ballet’s 51st season continues with the return of Val Caniparoli’s ballet, Lady of the Camellias.   The production is set to the brilliant music of Chopin, and will be performed by the Boston Ballet Orchestra.

About Lady of the Camellias:  Written by Alexander Dumas, the novel La Dame aux Camelias was published in 1848 Paris. Since then, the tragic story of the courtesan Marguerite and her lover, Armand, has captured audiences with its heartbreaking and compelling tale of love, redemption, and loss. More than 16 different stage adaptations have been performed across theaters in Paris, London, and Broadway since 1852.  The story inspired Guiseppe Verdi’s famed opera La Traviata (1853), and has been the subject for many films including Camille starring Greta Garbo (1936) and the blockbuster Moulin Rouge (2001).

The ballet opens Thursday, February 26th and runs through March 8th at the Boston Opera House.  Tickets start at $29 and can be purchased here.

Christina Aguilera “Wheel of Musical Impressions” on Jimmy Fallon

Last night season eight of The Voice premiered (does this show ever go off air?) and Christina Aguilera is back once again as a coach.  To promote the show she joined Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show.  Jimmy asked her to play “Wheel of Musical Impressions” where she had to channel the likes of Cher, Brittany and Shakira.  She was flawless and perhaps at her best singing The Folger’s jingle as Cher, but even Brittany fans are likely to love her version of how Ms. Spears might sing “This Little Piggy”.  Say what you will but sitting down without any heads up she does a better live impersonation of Brittany Spears than Brittany could.

Realm health and fitness tips from Kyle

running, cardio, joggingTry some of these low impact cardio alternatives to mix up your fitness routine.

Running is great exercise but some of us can’t get through a mile without our knees aching or our ankles swelling. Why is that? Running is essentially a form of PLYOMETRIC training with a lot of impact on our joints.  So if you want to get in extra cardio, without hitting the streets for a run – here are some low impact cardio alternatives to try.

Body weight squats for time 30s on 30s off for 20 minutes (If you are advanced enough).

Kettlebell swings 30s on 30s off for 15 minutes (visit YouTube and search for “gray cook swing” for proper instructions).

The rower do 500 m. x 5-10. Work your way up.

Medicine ball slams with push ups 20 seconds of each with a 20 second break in between for 15 minutes.

Email your warm weather photo to bosguymail@gmail.com

Boston has had a brutal winter so far (and there is no relief in sight). Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are awash in photos of friends traveling to warmer destinations (and even a few from people living in warmer climates inviting Bostonians to come and visit).

Email me your warm weather photo at:  bosguymail@gmail.com

I’d like to post pictures of anyone who would like to share a photo of themselves in a warmer climate.  All I ask is that you include your name (just first name is fine) and where you are.  I’ve gotten things started by sharing a photo of Sergio in Grand Cayman at Stingray City.  Now it is your turn to share a picture of you someplace warm.
