The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles is the first American museum exhibition devoted to Bob Mizer and Touko Laaksonen (a.k.a. “Tom of Finland”). The exhibition features a selection of Tom of Finland’s drawings and collages, alongside Mizerâs rarely seen photo-collage “catalogue boards” and films, as well as a comprehensive collection of his groundbreaking magazine Physique Pictorial, where drawings by Tom were first published in 1957.
The exhibit opened earlier this month in Los Angeles and runs through January 26, 2014. Do you live in Los Angeles or have plans to visit in the coming weeks? You may want to check out this exhibit. I would love to see something like this come to the ICA Boston. More information is available on MOCA’s website here.
Boston Spirit Magazine appears to have redesigned their website if you’ve not visited them recently, check out bostonspiritmagazine.com.
They have now added a blog feed featuring articles from national LGBT blogs, photos from recent events around New England and an updated events section. If you get a chance shoot Boston Spirit Magazine and congratulate them on their newly designed website.
Did you know that half of all Americans support a law banning job discrimination against gays and lesbians, according to a recent HuffPost/YouGov poll? Interestingly, that same poll also found that even more Americans falsely believe it is already illegal nationally to fire somebody for being gay. Sadly that isn’t true. Only 16 states (those in yellow above) make it illegal to fire someone because they are gay.
Today the Employment Nondiscrimination Act (ENDA) came one step closer to becoming law when the US Senate voted 64 to 32 in its favor. House Republicans, including Speaker John Boehner continue to oppose this legislation. Is it any wonder that LGBT voters disproportionately support Democrats? It is self-preservation.
Two weeks from today Boston Spirit Magazine will be hosting a Post-DOMA financial summit to review and discuss tax implications, family and estate questions, and offer important investment advice.
This free summit has proven to be so popular that it is completely full, but they are looking to add a second night. If you would be interested in attending this free program, you are encouraged to add your name to the registration page and Boston Spirit Magazine will follow up to provide you meeting details and logistics for their second summit.
