Suddenly it makes sense

LacrosseI know that I’ve previously mentioned my admiration and my complete lack of understanding pertaining to lacrosse, which appears to entail running like a mad man and whacking people with their sticks.  There is something very impressive about this photo of lacrosse player, Scott Rogers.  The even if the game seems utter nonsense, the nature of the appeal is returning and suddenly it all makes sense again.

Philip Defranco: Oreo controversy

I’m sure by now you’ve seen the rainbow Oreo cookie picture and perhaps you’ve even heard about the ridiculous backlash from the Evangelicals and Christian Conservatives in the US.

Yesterday’s Philip DeFranco Show on YouTube pretty much summed up my feelings about this too.

It’s a f*cking cookie guys!?! Chill

You can watch the entire broadcast or just listen to the bit about “Oreo-gate” since he leads with the story.

Gandy candy

David GandyFrom time to time I like to insert a photograph of David Gandy, a 30-something English model with a stunningly handsome face and body to match. I refer to these random posts as “Gandy candy” for obvious reasons.  Not sure who the lucky photographer was but I found this on the aptly named tumblr site, Candy Gandy.

Suggested military recruitment photo

gays in the military

Why do they call this hand-to-hand combat training? I think here in Boston we refer to this as “straddling”. Its funny how different parts of the country use different words to describe the same thing.

I snagged this photograph from the Bill in Exile blog.   If the armed forces are struggling with meeting their recruitment numbers, I highly recommend releasing more of these images.

DotOUT Summer Tea Dance at dbar

dBar Sunday, June 24th was the DotOUT Tea Dance at dBar in Dorchester.  Weather for the 5th Annual Tea Dance could not have been better and that is probably why most everyone who was not dancing spent a good part of the event on dBar’s patio.  Keeping with the Price is Right themed Boston float DotOUT had at Boston Pride, the Tea Dance had many props and games associated with the game show.

“Gay Jim” from KISS 108 FM kept everyone dancing all afternoon

Thank you to everyone who was kind enough to pose for a photo and apologies to any that may not have made this post.    I’d also like to thank dbar and their staff, all the sponsors and DotOUT for pulling together another wonderful Tea Dance.dbardbardbardbardbardbardbardbar

Men of Twitter

BosGuyEach Monday I post #MenOfTwitter profiles of men who catch my eye and whom I think you may enjoy following.  This month I’m featuring Twitter profiles of men who are lending their voice and influence to fight for greater equality. Earlier this month I included names of actors and political activists.  This week I’m featuring two athletes who have raised awareness about homophobia.

Brian Sims for PennsylvaniaSims4PA – Brian Sims is originally from D.C. and this former college athlete has a unique distinction of being the only openly gay football captain in NCAA history.  After graduating he went on to get his J.D. and then serve as the President of Equality PA, and as the Chairman of the Gay and Lesbian Lawyers of Philadelphia (GALLOP), until he stepped down from both positions in 2011.  He is now running for the PA House of Representatives.

Matt MitchamMatthew_Mitcham – Matthew is an  Australian diver who many first became aware of when he won 10M diving event at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics.  Matthew was also one of the few openly gay athletes competing in the 2008 Summer Olympics. You will be able to see more of Matthew in a few weeks when he competes for Australia at the London Summer Olympic Games.

Happy Pride

Some of the largest Pride celebrations in the United States will be held this weekend with large parades and even larger crowds.

Chicago, Cleveland, Houston, New Orleans, New York City, San Francisco, Seattle, St. Louis, and the Twin cities will all be celebrating Pride.  I wanted to wish all of you who will be celebrating this weekend a wonderful time with your friends and family.

Furry Friday

Boston Guy blogEach Friday I post a photo of a guy with a hairy chest and refer to it as my “Furry Friday” post. This slightly naughty picture of a man posing in his Calvin Klein briefs was a request from one of my readers.  I’m always flattered when a person takes time to leave a comment so I was more than happy to include this handsome guy in my growing pantheon of hairy chested hunks.  Thank you Kevin for the suggestion.

Suddenly it makes sense

Gay SportsAlthough the 2012 Summer Olympics in London do not start for a few  weeks, I’d highly recommend watching water polo. I have no idea how to play the sport nor do I even pretend to understand the objective but the appeal I’m sure suddenly makes sense.

Stop the hate

For those who think electing politicians or paying respect to religious leaders who continue to marginalize gay men and women is not a big deal, those messages are reaching your children.

Supporting these individuals (even if their views on homosexuality are not your own) still sends a message of tacit agreement to your child. Is it any wonder so many more LGBT children commit suicide?

What messages are we sending our youth?

DotOUT Summer Tea Dance @dbar

DbarSunday from 4-8PM is the summer Tea Dance presented by DotOUT at dbar in Dorchester.

The summer Tea Dance is a guaranteed fun time.  Here are a few photos from the 2011 Summer Tea Dance presented by DotOUT last year.

2011 DotOUT Tea Dance @dbar

Hope to see you there.  Be sure to stop by the DJ booth and say hello to Gay Jim from KISS 108.  I know I’ll be requesting Cazwell’s Rice & Beans.

Sh*t gay guys say…

I believe I posted this video when it first came out in January, but while in NYC last week I was reminded of the video so I thought I’d post it.  If you’re not familiar, it is worth watching.  Phil Mutz is hilarious, and just to clarify, the video opens with him repeatedly saying “Not to act all gay…” then proceeds to act all “gay” for the next 2 minutes.

The other side of the rainbow: Most gay zip codes in US

Boston GuyUsing data from the 2010 U.S. Census, Trulia identified neighborhoods with the highest percentage of same-sex households. While nobody disputes that San Francisco and New York City are meccas for the Gay and Lesbian community – especially for the single LGBT community, you may be surprised to see where LGBT couples have a large presence in terms of percentage of the overall population.

For example, 4 of the top 10 zip codes for highest concentration of same-sex female couples are in Massachusetts.  And West Hollywood, while certainly a gay enclave is only the 6th most densely populated.

Homophobic organizations ask companies not to comment on marriage equality

Last month The National Organization for Marriage (NOM), The Family Research Council and One Million Moms (a trinity of hate and hate mongering groups in my opinion) sent a letter to hundreds of businesses in Minnesota requesting they keep out of the debate over a state constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage that will appear on state ballots in November.

The fact that these organizations have changed tactics and now are asking the business community to essentially remain “neutral” by not endorsing Same Sex Marriage speaks volumes and should be a signal of hope that whatever roadblocks remain for the LGBT community, the tide has changed and public opinion (as well as corporate America) no longer want to be associated with these groups.

Lila Shapiro from the Huffington Post has an excellent post regarding this change of tactics and what it means. If you are interested, you can read the full article here.
