Broadway Bares XXII: Happily Ever After

Queerty has a selection of photos from last night’s Broadway Bares show at Roseland Ballroom in New York City. The goal of this show each year is to raise money for Broadway Cares / Equity fights AIDS.

This year’s fairy-tale themed show “Happy Endings” hoped to raise $300,000, but there is no word if they met or exceeded the goal from the sale and money raised from the two shows last night.  My favorite promo photo for this event is Goldilocks and the three bears.  You can see pictures from Sunday’s shows on Queerty’s website here.  You can also check out the very enticing promo video, which I posted on my blog last week here.

Men of Twitter

BosGuyEach Monday I post #MenOfTwitter profiles of men who catch my eye and whom I think you may enjoy following.  This month I’m featuring Twitter profiles of men who are lending their voice and influence to fight for greater equality. Last week I included names of out and proud actors.  This week I’m featuring two handsome men who have built careers as political activists to foster change and greater equality.

SeanEldridge – Sean is a senior advisor for Freedom to Marry.  He initially started working with Freedom to Marry in 2010 as their Communications Director and then Political Director, a role in which he was instrumental in winning the freedom to marry to New York.  He’s handsome, articulate and a political activist helping the LGBT community; follow him on Twitter.

Aravosis – John Aravosis is a political consultant, writer, gay activist and blogger who lives in D.C. He is also the founder of AMERICAblog.  Although you may not recognize John by name – you will likely recognize some of his accomplishments, which include co-founding the site, StopDrLaura.com. Aravosis has also worked with leading US businesses to ensure they do not bow to pressure from conservative religious organizations. Also active on Twitter, John is worth following.

Hot Daddy alert

Since it’s Father’s Day in the US today, it seemed like a great excuse to post this photo.

Thought of the day

Spread the word. Sometimes people need to be reminded of the obvious.

2012 Boston Pride Weekend (recap)

Last week at this time the gay community in Boston was ready to enjoy the final weekend of Pride 2012. After a week of rain and cool temperatures, weather was beautiful all weekend long.  Here is a video of some of the events and parties we attended last weekend.

Furry Friday

This week’s Furry Friday post features the very sexy retired rugby player, Ben Cohen.  After retiring in 2011, he started The Ben Cohen StandUp Foundation, which is dedicated to ending bullying. The foundation places a special emphasis on helping LGBT kids.  Ben’s good looks combined with his good works makes him one of the sexiest Furry Friday’s I’ve posted.

Past Furry Friday Posts

Cazwell “Rice and Beans”

Massachusetts native, Cazwell, is back with another outrageous music video full of innuendo and barely clothed men writhing suggestively.  Its proven to be a potent combination for this gay singer who first caught my attention in the summer of 2010 with a very similar gay club hit, Meet Me at the Ice Cream Truck.

This video is probably not appropriate to play if at work.

ILGA: Gay rights around the world

gay rightsEach year The ILGA produces maps on Gay and Lesbian rights in the world as well as its State Sponsored Homophobia report.

Share this with friends, most of their materials are available in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French. This year the world map as shown above has been also produced in Chinese, German, Hindi and Turkish.

The organization also provides maps that focus on specific regions of the world including Asia, Africa, Latin America and The Caribbean.   You can learn more about this organization and download a copy of the map and report by visiting their website www.ilga.org.

ILGA – Video to end homophobia

Suddenly it makes sense

soccer homophobiaNormally, my Suddenly it makes sense posts are very tongue in cheek but this German football (soccer) commercial which is making the rounds on facebook was developed to raise awareness and fight homophobia in the sport. The advertisement not only gets my attention (and kudos) but definitely makes me think I should probably watch a bit more of this sport.

Broadway Bares XXII: Happy Endings

Broadway CaresLater this week on Sunday, June 17th Broadway Bares XXII: Happy Endings will take place at the Roseland Ballroom, with two shows 9:30PM and Midnight.  This annual show and gala raises money for Broadway Cares: Equity Fight AIDS. This year’s show is inspired by fairy tales but perhaps a bit more naughty than you may recall.

For those who were not fortunate enough to get tickets, I thought I’d include the teaser video that was created.  Enjoy the eye candy.

Boston Pride

Beautiful weather all weekend brought people out for Pride weekend in Boston.  As usual the Boston Pride parade was mostly forgettable, but the weekend proved to be a lot of fun.

Festivities started on Friday evening at the Boston Chapter of GLAAD cocktail reception.  On Saturday, after the parade I went to the “unofficial” block party on Chandler Street  dancing and chatting with friends while enjoying the beautiful weather.  The only frustration was the long lines to get drinks.  Hopefully they’ll figure out how to fix that for 2013 Pride (hint hint).

Sunday’s block party in the Back Bay turned out to be the big surprise. DJ Tracy Young kept the crowd of thousands in a frenzy for hours and capped off one of the best Pride Weekends in recent memory.  I’m pulling together a video but wanted to share a few fun pics from the weekend.

BosGuy and Matt Kurkowski

Hanging with the handsome and flirtatious Matt Kurkowski at Boston Pride’s 2012 Sunday block party.  This former Men of Twitter (from May 2011) is a great guy. If you are on Twitter check out and follow Matt at @MKurkowski.

GLAAD Boston Pride reception at Emerald Lounge

The Boston chapter of Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) hosted a cocktail party at the new Revere Hotel’s swanky Emerald Lounge on Friday, June 8th.  The sold out event was a great way to start the weekend.

The event was mostly attended by gregarious 20 and 30 something gay men who were looking forward to mingle and enjoy the Ketel One Vodka drinks being liberally poured by a hard working and attentive Emerald Lounge Staff.  I created a quick 2 minute video compilation of photos from the cocktail reception.

Men of Twitter

Each Monday I post #MenOfTwitter profiles of men who catch my eye and whom I think you may enjoy following.  This month I’m featuring Twitter profiles of men who are lending their voice and influence to fight for greater equality.

Darryl Stephens actorDarrylStephens – Darryl’s role as the lead actor in Noah’s Arc a show that first aired back in 2005 was ground breaking in many ways since it revolved around gay black men.  Stephens came out in 2007 and although very private remains an excellent role model. In light of the recent guerrilla art campaign in Boston Would you still love me if I were gay, I thought it appropriate to feature Darryl.

Wcruz73 – Wilson Cruz also starred in Noah’s Arc.  He’s not only unbelievably attractive but he’s an out and proud actor. Although he’s from NYC, Wilson now lives in Southern California and is working on a number of projects but best of all for those on Twitter – Wilson is active on Tweeter and very friendly.
