Gay for Good volunteer opportunities for Toys for Joys

G4G, T4JThe Boston Chapter of Gay for Good has several volunteering opportunities coming up in December. These group volunteering opportunities include several ways you can help with the Toys for Joys event in early December.

There is no money required and anyone willing to give their time and energy are welcome, but note that most opportunities have a limited number of slots and they fill quickly.

Childe Hassam Park’s event, ARTISTRY, is Sunday

Childe Hassam Park, South End BostonChilde Hassam Park is located in Boston’s South End at the intersection of Chandler Street and Columbus Ave. The park has been designated as an outdoor space, showcasing the work of Boston’s visual and performing artists.

Later this weekend Friends of Childe Hassam Park will be hosting a fundraiser at The Urban Grape on Sunday, October 16th.

Turn Up The Heat: 2017 Boston Firefighter calendar launch party

firemen calendarGet the first look at the 2017 Boston Firefighter Calendar and interact with the Boston Calendar guys at the “Turn Up the Heat” Calendar Launch Event at Royale on Thursday, November 17th. Tickets to this event are now on sale.

All ticket sales and proceeds of calendar purchases directly benefit the Boston Firefighters Burn Foundation. Supporting the foundation will help fund volunteer events with patients at the Shriner’s Children’s hospital and assistance to local families that fall victim to burn injuries.

Toys for Joys annual fundraiser is Friday, Dec. 9th

Much like the spring, the fall is a season when many LGBT organization hold important fundraisers and events to raise awareness and funds to support the work they do in our community.

Below are some of the areas largest fundraisers so mark the dates in your calendar and get your tickets. If I’ve missed an event, please add the information in the comments section of this post.

Human Rights Campaign New EnglandStarting the fall gala season is the Human Rights Campaign New England Fiercely Forward gala dinner and auction at the Westin Waterfront in the Seaport on Saturday, October 8th. The event hashtag is #EqualityVote2016.

community-servings-pie-in-the-skyEach November since 1993, Boston’s best restaurants, bakeries, caterers, and hotels donate thousands of pies that more than 700 volunteers then sell to family, friends and colleagues. The money from each pie sold provides a week’s worth of nutritious home-delivered meals to a Community Servings’ client and a tasty Thanksgiving treat to the buyer.

Tuesday, October 18th is the official kick off party for Community Servings’ annual Pie in the Sky Thanksgiving bake sale at the W Boston Hotel. For more information and to RSVP link to the eventbrite web page, here.

Victory ProgramsThe Celebration of Life Dinner was born in 1987 when Peter Daniel Clark, one of the Boston Living Center’s (BLC) founding members, decided to bring people living with HIV/AIDS together with their families and friends around the holidays to celebrate another year of life. Clark died from AIDS-related complications in 1992, but his work lives on. The 2016 Celebration of Life theme is “Positive, Proud and Living Out Loud”.

ProvincetownTis the Season for Giving is on Friday, December 2, 2016 and kicks off Provincetown’s Holly Folly Weekend 2016. The fun event features Provincetown’s amazing local talent.

Boston Gay Men's Chorus, Jingle All The Way concertStarting Saturday, December 3rd and running through mid December, The Boston Gay Men’s Chorus will host five concert performances to celebrate the holiday season at the beautiful Jordan Hall (note the December 3rd concert will take place in Provincetown for Holly Folly Weekend).

T4J 2016, Toys for Joys BostonSaturday, December 9th Toys 4 Joys will return again for their 8th year to collect funds and toys for children in the Boston area. This year’s event will also be dedicated to the memory of John Michael Gray (perhaps best known as one half of the Hat Sisters). His presence will be missed at this year’s event.

Gay for Good BostonFrom time to time I publish volunteering opportunities from the Boston Chapter of Gay for Good.  G4G, as I like to refer to them, may be the perfect option for you if you’re looking to meet people or would like to volunteer but cannot commit to a particular charity. Each month, Gay For Good Boston selects a different non-profit to donate time for a community service project and they arrange all the logistics. There is no money required and anyone willing to give their time and energy are welcome, but note that most opportunities fill quickly.

Broadway to the Bay, Monday, Aug. 22 at Club Cafe

H2B, Harbor to the Bay, Club CafeHead over to Club Cafe on Monday evening for their Broadway to the Bay fundraiser. Join members of the 2016 Harbor to the Bay Ride at Club Café for a cabaret-style evening, filled with live performances of your favorite show tunes and musical hits to help support the fight to end HIV/AIDS. Tickets are $20.

Santa Speedo Run registration opens

Although winter is thankfully still far off, last week the Playball! Foundation announced that this year’s Santa Speedo Run will take place on Saturday, December 10th and they opened registration for the 2016 run. You can save $25 if you register by Wednesday, August 10th.

Community ServingsCommunity Servings fundraiser, LifeSavor spring gala takes place early next month on Thursday, May 5th from 5:30 – 11:00 PM, starting at the Langham Hotel in Post Office Square. Join Sergio and me at their superb cocktail party before being whisked off to Greater Boston’s top restaurants to enjoy a multi-course dinner.

Proceeds from this event go to help Community Servings provide medically tailored meals to 1,600 individuals who are too sick to shop and cook for themselves and their families.  Last year’s LifeSavor gala raised $525,000.

The Theater Offensive (TTO) annual FUNdraiser, climACTS! is less than two weeks away Thursday, April 28th at Icon Nightclub – 100 Warrenton St.

The party will be emceed by David Brown,  DJ Brent Covington will be on hand and Cuban-American performance artist Octavio Campos will be joined by an ensemble of sexy dancers and performers. Check out this video I put together from a climACTS! fundraiser from a couple years ago. You’ll understand why I say this isn’t your typical, stuffy fundraiser; it is actually quite a bit of fun.

Victory Program’s 2016 Dinnerfest RED Party + Auction is one month from today on Sunday, April 24 from 3-6PM at the Red Lantern restaurant.

For those who love dining out, the Dinnerfest silent auction is certain to please, featuring some of Boston’s most acclaimed restaurants, bistros, pubs and breweries. This year’s honorary co-chairs are Attorney General Maura Healey and Joanne Chang of Flour Bakery and Myers + Chang.

Fenway Men’s Event is Saturday, March 19th

Fenway Health Men's Event Mark your calendars and dust off that tuxedo because Boston’s gay prom A.K.A. The Fenway Men’s event is right around the corner, Saturday, March 19th.

Will you be attending the black tie fundraiser for Fenway Health?  The Men’s Event is an annual tradition for many in the Boston area to hop into a tuxedo and come together to help raise money for Boston’s largest LGBT clinic, Fenway Health.  More than 1,300 are expected to attend this year’s program. To learn more about the Men’s Event visit their website mensevent.org.

Nunch is the annual fundraiser brunch of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. As many of you know there are many events and charitable organizations that the Sisters of Perpeptual Indulgence support and volunteer.

It is now your chance to pay it forward by attending their FUNdraiser on Sunday, March 6th from 11am – 3pm.  Proceeds raised will help to support the Sister Grant Fund for 2017, which supports non-profit organizations that do good in the Greater Boston community.
