Over the years, I’ve promoted a variety of volunteering opportunities organized by Gay For Good Boston, but COVID-19 made that difficult for awhile so some of you may not be familiar with this amazing organization.
Gay for Good is a national organization with chapters in 15+ cities across the United States. Each chapter aims to energize and mobilize the LGBT+ community to interact with their larger community through volunteering activities.
The Boston chapter is particularly active and provides an opportunity to meet people and socialize while volunteering your time. It is a great way to give back and meet some wonderful people. Note that these opportunities have limits and do fill up so plan accordingly.
I’m willing to be that as much as my readers love dogs, a lot of you are jealous of that cute puppy posing pretty atop his handsome Dad who appears to be drinking from a rainbow, unicorn coffee mug.

I have included photos of Alan Ginsberg and Peter Orlovsky in the past but I’ve never seen this photo which dates back to “a hot summer day” in 1956. The two had met about 18 mos before in December of 1954 and would remain together as a couple until Ginsberg’s death in 1997. Orlovsky would die thirteen years later in Vermont in 2010.
I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Provincetown’s annual Spooky Bear Weekend is a fun way to celebrate the Halloween holiday. This year the annual party will take place from Thursday, October 28 – Sunday, October 31. More information about Spooky Bear Weekend 2021 is available on the Northeast Ursamen website.
The weekend will draw thousands and is one of the last busy weekends of the year and can be a lot of fun. Sergio and I have gone to celebrate this holiday many times over the past few years and we never fail to have a lot of fun. This year there are many parties, drag and cabaret shows and tea dances to enjoy. Below are a few of the published parties and venues that will be welcoming you this Halloween. Please keep in mind that proof of vaccination is required before being allowed entry to many of these establishments.

Looking for a midweek distraction? Head over to Dorchester Brewing Company tonight for Stonewall Sports, Spooky Spelling Bee with your emcee Betti Bottom from 7PM – 9:30PM. Proceeds raised will go to History Unerased, a local not-for-profit who’s mission is to ensure that LGBTQ US history is brought out of the closet and into the mainstream curriculum to ensure all students learn and understand a more complete history of America and a more empowering reflection of who “We the people” includes.

Want to watch the Red Sox as they host the Houston Astros in the American League Championship Series? The series is tied up with Houston winning the first game and the Red Sox roaring back to take the second game from the Astros in Houston. Games 3, 4, and 5 will now take place at Fenway Park on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Games on Monday and Tuesday will start at 8:08PM and at 5:08PM on Wednesday.
The Red Sox victory over the Yankees to secure their wild card status and then their impressive win over Tampa Bay in the last series has been a confidence boost to the team and their fans. Boston’s biggest gay sports bar, Cathedral Station, will be broadcasting these games live, and the crowd will definitely be loud so stop by to cheer on the Red Sox.
