This week on Instagram: okaprol

handsome, pinkConsidering this weekly post falls on a Wednesday, I couldn’t resist using this photo from @okaprol’s Instagram account (thanks for allowing me to make a Mean Girls reference – it never gets old).

I don’t know much about this handsome guy other than the fact that we both live in Boston. The photo above was taken in Davis Square – not far from my home in the South End. Who knows, perhaps our paths will cross at some point? I really enjoy posting photos of local guys and have been enjoying following this account for several months now. Check him out – he’s quite handsome and fun to follow.

Machine / Ramrod in Fenway to be demolished

This past Thursday applications were filed with the city to demolish the commercial buildings in the Fenway at 1252-1268 & 1270 Boylston Street. Some may recognize the address which is the home of Boston’s gay bar Machine / Ramrod  in Fenway. The series of small buildings that currently comprise this block will be demolished to make way for a 15-story,  225,000 square foot mixed-use project that will include 451 rental units above a ground-floor retail podium designed for a broad range of neighborhood-oriented culinary, lifestyle, and experiential tenants. The rental units will range in size from studios through 3 bedrooms. 15% of units, 68 in total will be affordable.

In recognition of the site’s important heritage and affiliation with the LGBTQ community, the building will also include the Boylston Black Box, a 10,000-square-foot LGBTQ-centric venue for the performing arts. The Boylston Black Box will be anchored by a 156-seat theater and will also include dedicated flex and community areas to serve as safe spaces. The Boylston Black Box will be delivered and operated on a not-for-profit basis.

Saturday morning coffee

handsome, hairy

Much thanks to my friend Herve who  ecently celebrated his birthday (belated birthday wishes Hever!)  for sharing this photo as a potential Saturday morning coffee post. The guy makes drinking coffee seem very appealing. For those in the know, is that a giant marijuana plant in front of the radiator?

Vintage gay

The relationship between Salvador Dali and Frederico Garcia Lorca has long been the source of speculation for historians. The 2008 film, Little Ashesstirred much controversy when the film was released as it looked closely at the relationship between the artist and poet and depicted a level of intimacy that leads one to conclude they were more than just extremely close friends. You can read more about that speculation on Pride.com.

I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Do you have a photo you would like to share? Email me at bosguymail@gmail.com.

Dusty LachowiczThis week I’m featuring the account of model, Dusty Lachowicz, a New York based model known for his work with major brands like Ralph Lauren. This Cheesehead was previously a firefighter and EMT in Wisconsin. The handsome 20-something currently has 200k+ followers on Instagram so you may already be following him, but if not check him out.

The account is  more or less what you would expect from a model’s IG account but he does enjoy reading and often shares books he likes and there are periodic posts that show his sense of humor like the I’ve shared one below.
