All I know about this guy is his name is Trent and he takes his coffee in bed. I’m shallow enough to let that be enough for now.

Notable names scheduled to appear include John Kerry, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Anand Giridharadas, Michael Pollan and Justine Bateman (what do you suppose she’s been up to?).
The highlight for me would have to be the Saturday afternoon discussion between Kearns Goodwin and Kerry. Their conversation will take place just weeks before the midterm elections. Tickets to the discussion as well as to other 2018 BBF events will be available on the BBF website in early September.

Earlier this month The New York Times had an interesting article called “The Power of Positive People“, which suggested that our focus on physical health (e.g. diet and exercise) — while important — is only part of the equation for our well-being. The article said that researchers have found that happiness and other emotions spread between people in direct contact and can influence things like obesity, anxiety and overall happiness.
Are your friendships giving you a boost or bringing you down?
While I don’t find the hypothesis surprising, I think it is an important reminder of how important it is to have good friends. We’ve all faced adversity and felt down – it is part of life. Having friends who you can surround yourself with who will help you find the silver linings, be there to cheer you on or give you that added bit of courage really can make a difference. Do you know someone who is struggling at the moment? Give them a call and make plans to meet up. A fun evening together might be the best medicine.
The NYT article was in part based on the research published a few years ago, here: Detecting Emotional Contagion in Massive Social Networks.
I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Austin lives in Austin – hence the Instagram handle, austin_n_austin. Aside from that I can only tell you that I think Austin is handsome and knows how to take a picture. If I were to take a guess, I would say Austin is in his mid- to late-twenties. Most of his photos of late are with him in snug fitting Speedos near a pool like this image of Austin earlier this summer.

Much thanks to my sister, Susan, who shared this local news story from earlier this week, and bonus points to whoever works the headlines at WMUR-TV in New Hampshire because this was easily the best thing I read on Monday.
According to the story, that you can read here, Eric Stagno, 34, of Haverhill, MA, walked into the Plaistow, NH Planet Fitness and removed his clothing before settling in on the yoga mats. He was arrested without incident and was charged with indecent exposure/lewdness and disorderly conduct. However, the best part of the story IMHO is Stagno’s only statement where he said he thought Planet Fitness was a “judgment-free zone,” referencing the chain’s slogan.
The Boston Sun reported the amount of development allowed along the Harrison-Albany Corridor in the South End has far exceeded what had been planned, and it is forcing them to revisit the traffic and infrastructure models put into place in 2012.
The Quinzani’s project, the Harrison Albany Project and the 345 Harrison project (which is now open) were all projects that took the City by surprise. Those projects combined, resulted in 32% more development than had been anticipated in 2012, and account for approximately 1,900 new apartment / condominium units. The crazy thing is that figure doesn’t even include the 250 unit building that the Ink Block announced earlier this month called The Ollie on the corner of Albany and Herald Street. That is a lot of development for what essentially is a 6 block corridor at the edge of the South End.
