For those of you heading out for the long weekend here in the US I wanted to share this “Rules of Any Car Journey” to make sure everyone understands their responsibilities. Sergio and I are out of town this weekend as well traveling in Europe so we’ll need to find some sort of similar guide for traveling by train.
Have a great weekend.
Will you be in Ogunquit for Labor Day Weekend? If you are, check out Hedda Lettuce who will be performing two shows on September 3rd and 4th in Ogunquit. Tickets are now on sale on the Mainestreet website.
Sergio and I arrived in Portugal yesterday. If you have an Instagram account follow me as I post pictures of our trip to Porto and Lisbon.
Edward Carpenter was a socialist poet and philosopher, anthologist, and early gay activist. Returning from India in 1891, Carpenter met George Merrill, a working class man also from Sheffield, and the two men struck up a relationship that would last for 47 years until January 1928 when Merrill died suddenly, leaving Carpenter devastated.
I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Do you have a photo you would like to share for a future post? Email me at bosguymail@gmail.com.
Many of the streets of Boston are littered with unwanted furniture tonight. Most apartments in Boston have a September 1 start to their lease (a nod to how much of an impact the student population has here in Boston). To those of you living in n’hoods heavily populated with student renters, be patient and make sure you don’t need to use the streets tomorrow.
Today’s vocabulary word is actually an acronym, VPL.
VPL (ˈvpl/noun)
Definition: Acronym used by gay men, which means visible penis line.
Example: I could distinctly see a VPL on that guy’s package.
Each Wednesday morning I post a photograph and ask readers to offer a funny caption. Hopefully the caption below inspires you to share a few of your own.
Good Carbs

Tomorrow evening the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology in the South End hosts “Flicks on the Lawn” for the final time this summer and will be showing Into the Woods. Bring a picnic and a blanket to the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology located on the corner of Berkeley and Tremont Street.
The lawn opens at 6:00PM and the movie starts at dusk. Snacks and drinks are available for purchase; nonmember adults $5.00.
Pew Research published findings from a poll they conducted to identify the most and least religious states. Their Religious Landscape Study included more than 35,000 U.S. adults, and it found that the percentages who say they believe in God, pray daily and regularly go to church or other religious services have declined modestly in recent years, but among the roughly three-quarters of U.S. adults who do claim a religion, there has been no discernible drop in religious commitment. Indeed, by some conventional measures, religiously affiliated Americans are, on average, even more devout than they were a few years ago.
Mississippi, Alabama and other Southern states are among the most highly religious states in the nation, while New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont and Maine in New England are among the least devout, according to some of the key measures used to determine levels of religiosity in the Pew Research Center’s study, which you can read here.
