“Trouble maker”

Torch Song by Harvey Fierstein comes to Boston

Next week Torch Song opens at the BCA Calderwood Pavilion. Described as hilarious and heart wrenching, Torch Song follows Arnold Beckoff on his odyssey to find happiness in New York. All he wants is a husband, a child and a pair of bunny slippers that fit, but a visit from his overbearing mother reminds him that he needs one thing more: respect.

Join Arnold on this all-too-human journey about the families we’re born into, the families we choose, and the battles to bring them all home. For more information about the show at the BCA Calderwood Pavilion and to purchase tickets visit the Boston Theatre Scene website or click on the button below.

Temptation Tuesday

Say hello to Markus Bohemius. He lives in England, loves yoga, and taking baths. He is also a lot of fun to follow on Twitter, which is where / how I found him. I’ve never been one for baths but I have to admit this photo is tempting enough to make me reconsider.

SoWa Health + Wellness looks to open spring 2023

The Boston Sports Club South End closed last spring after the property owner, GTI Properties, opted to takeover the space rather than renew their lease. Since the BSC closed, GTI has been remodeling the space to reopen a boutique Health + Wellness facility. The new facility will have four group studios, new gym equipment, remodeled “executve” locker rooms, juice bar, and saunas.

The move by GTI Properties to overtake this space is a bold one, because they have a mixed track record of managing businesses outside of real estate management. They’ve done a great job opening the SoWa Power Station as an event space, but they’ve struggled with the two restaurant spaces they’ve overtaken.

Setting those concerns aside, the gym is hoping to open in the spring. To stay up to date on information about membership fees and opening dates, check their web page, sowahealthandwellness.com.

JetBlue announces new nonstop service between Boston and Paris in the summer of 2023

It will get a little easier to visit The City of Lights next year. Earlier this week JetBlue announced new nonstop service from JFK and Boston to Paris will begin in the summer of 2023. Similar to their London flights from Boston, JetBlue will use the narrow body A321 with 114 seats in the core as well as 24 Mint seats.

No word on when ticket sales will begin or starting prices but stay tuned. I’m sure more information will be forthcoming over the next month or two.

BosGuy brain teaser

riddle, exercise for your brainEach Friday morning I post a riddle to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain. If you are stumped, share it with a friend or colleague and see if you can figure out the answer together. Leave your answer in the comment section. I’ll approve responses later in the day to give people a chance to respond without seeing any spoilers.

This week’s riddle comes from Maria Shriver. Who knew she also did a Friday brain teaser? I didn’t get the answer but I’m confident you can.

Vintage gay

Jess Collins (viaual artist) and Robert Duncan (poet) are depicted above in a photo taken at some point in 1958 or 1959 in Marin County at Stinson Beach in northern California. Jess was a member of the 1950s San Francisco art scene and met poet Robert Duncan in 1950. They remained together until Duncan’s death in 1988.

Earlier this summer, the blog ultrawolveunderthefullmoon had a nice post that introduced me to the couple, which you can read here.

I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Do you have a photo you would like to share? Email me at bosguymail@gmail.com.
