Fenway Men’s Event is April 26
Are you going to the Fenway Men’s Event this year?
Sergio and I will miss the party as we will be just a few blocks away attending the wedding of a couple we’ve been friends with for more than a decade.
Despite our absence this year, I wanted to be sure to remind any of you who may be dragging your feet to buy your tickets to this annual fundraiser that helps Fenway Health. I’ve included my video from the 2013 Men’s Event to give you an idea of what is in store. More information can be found online here.
Wink & Nod opens in Boston’s South End
Wink & Nod a self-proclaimed ‘craft cocktail speakeasy’ is located near the corner of Appleton and Tremont Street in the South End. They opened for business last month so I suggested to a colleague / friend that we pay a visit to check out the South End’s newest watering hole.
The photos which I pulled from Wink & Nod’s Facebook Page give you a glimpse into this subterranean space that has come together under the guidance of the ever present and friendly General Manager, Curtis McMillan. Gone are the mirrors and modern, clean lines associated with the former tenant, Noche, and in its place are dark and rich colors with comfortable leather banquets, large arm chairs and couches to recline and sip one of the many cocktails or nosh on some of the food chefs Jeremy Kean and Philip Kruta seem to crank out quickly.
I have to admit I was somewhat circumspect when Curtis first told me about his vision for the space several months back, but I enjoyed my first visit. The space is comfortable and doesn’t take itself too seriously. Be sure to check out their signature cocktails – all named after notorious cougars. On my first visit I enjoyed a mezcal mixture called the Mrs. Robinson and my friend opted for the Joan Collins. However, if our selections don’t appeal to you fear not – there are plenty of small screen and big screen vamps to seduce you, from the Cattrall which does look tempting to the Raquel that is served in a funny looking tiki mug.
The menu looks interesting, but I didn’t explore it properly on this visit. I do plan to go back and will try some of the food on my next visit. Wink & Nod is a welcome addition to the neighborhood, and I wish it much success. Have you visited Wink & Nod? Let me know what you think.
Wink & Nod is located at 3 Appleton Street in the South End.
Community Servings: Mustachio Bashio 2014
Last Tuesday, Community Servings raised more than $14,000 at their 5th annual Mustachio Bashio at the posh Lenox Hotel’s, City Table restaurant in Back Bay. Sergio and I were lucky enough to attend, and I’ve posted photographs from all the fun. Much thanks to everyone who graciously posed for a picture.
Hats off to everyone who participated to help raise money for this worthwhile not-for-profit food and nutrition program that serves Massachusetts individuals and families living with critical and chronic illnesses. Despite the fact that the Mustachio Bashio party is over, you can still donate to Community Servings by visiting their site here.

SNL: Dongs All Over the World
Last night’s Saturday Night Live with guest host, Anna Kendrick, proved to be very funny. One of my favorite skits from last night was the “Dongs All Over the World” which also included SNL’s Aidy Bryant, Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong, and Sasheer Zamata singing about traveling the world in search of international “dongs.”
Think of Timberlake and Sandberg’s raunchy 2006 R&B crooning “D*** in a Box” but with more girl power. If you missed the clip you can watch it here courtesy of Hulu.

Scruffy Sunday
Vintage ‘Tube
It is hard for me to believe, but YouTube has been around for nearly a decade. I loved this clip when Sarah Silverman teamed up with Matt Damon to tease her boyfriend, Jimmy Kimmel.
Have a great Saturday night.
I am Sparta
I’ve always been fascinated by ancient civilizations but none more so than Greece and Rome. Sergio has had to watch more than his fair share of documentaries on television as I sit mesmerized by the unfolding stories that chronicle the life and times of these civilizations.
I wonder if my curiosity was initially piqued because of homoerotic undertones; one need only look at a few sculptures from the time to know that the male physique was something those cultures admired. I can assure you that our text books (that’s right – I’m so old we used books) had nothing remotely close to Aaron’s photograph, but I also know that I’ve always had a vivid imagination. I find it interesting so many gay men have similar obsessive interests in Ancient cultures, and I can’t help but think there is something to it.

Wicked awesome MBTA late night graphic
Cathedral Station Facebook page is live
If you’ve been reading my blog you know that Cathedral Station is a new gay bar that will open in the space formerly occupied by the Red Fez on Washington Street in Boston’s South End. You may not have realized it, but the (soon to open) gay bar or as I like to refer to it, heterosexual-friendly bar, quietly introduced their Facebook page on Monday.
