Although I’m sure this is really intended for kids, I think cartoon fans of all ages might find the 20th Annual Bugs Bunny Festival something fun to attend.
Starting later this month, for one week the Brattle Theatre in Cambridge will host their Annual Bugs Bunny Film Festival.
The festival features 3 different programs:
– All Bugs Revue
– Daffy Duck & Friends
– Looney Tunes Review
When: February 14 – 21 – multiple viewing times
Ticket Info: Brattle Theatre
Are you one of those guys who doesn’t like going to museums? Do you find them stuffy and boring? Maybe this exhibit in Los Angeles is more your speed.
Cuban artist, Felix Gonzalez-Torres’, takes the male body out of the gay club and into the museum. The installation at UCLA’s Hammer Museum consists of a lit-up platform, that is empty most of the time except for five minutes a day when a go-go dancer randomly appears. Unscheduled and unannounced, the performer dances to the music blaring from his headphones, inaudible to the guests at the museum. Not your typical installation for sure.
Thanks to Oscar Raymundo and his blog Confessions of a Boy Toy for bringing this story to my attention.
Drag performer Peaches Christ is hosting a screening of the cult film “But I’m a Cheerleader” on Tuesday, Jan. 27 with the film’s star, actress Natasha Lyonne.
For those millennials who may not be familiar with this 1999 dark comedy / satire about gay conversion therapy, it is worth renting / streaming if you don’t live in San Francisco or cannot make it on Tuesday night.
“But I’m a Cheerleader: The Peaches Christ Experience,” takes place this Tuesday, Jan. 27th at 7:30 p.m., at The Castro Theatre at 429 Castro in San Francisco; tickets are $25. For more information visit, sfsketchfest.com.

This post is for all you movie buffs who want to check out the 2015 Oscar nominated short films. According to the official website, starting January 30th three movie houses in and around Boston will be showing films: Kendall Square Cinema 9, Institute of Contemporary Art and Coolidge Corner Theatre.
At the time I wrote this post only Kendall Square Cinema 9 had information about the 2015 Oscar nominated short films on their website so check with these venues for more information. Don’t live in Boston? Visit the official website for more information on where you can see these films near you.
Are you lucky enough to have the day off in observance of the MLK holiday? If so, you may want to consider heading over to the MFA Boston which is open and free to the public on Monday, January 19, 2015. Special events and tours will be available to all who visit the museum between 10 – 4:45pm so take advantage of this opportunity. The colder, winter months are the perfect time to check out and support these local institutions. You just might be surprised by how much you enjoy yourself if you’ve not visited the MFA recently.
More about the MFA Boston events on MLK Day Open House, here.
Following last week’s news that local gal, Amy Poehler was named 2015 Woman of the Year award from Harvard University’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals. Yesterday, her hunky co-star, actor Chris Pratt, was named as Hasty Pudding’s 2015 Man of the Year.
The Man of the Year festivities will take place on Friday, February 6, 2015 and include a celebratory roast at Farkas Hall, the Hasty Pudding’s historic home in the heart of Harvard Square since 1888. A press conference will be held at 8:30 p.m., following the roast. Afterward, the Pudding will stage the opening night performance of its 167th production, ¡Oops!… Madrid It Again!
With nominations for the 2015 Oscars announced today, I wanted to write about an exhibit at the MFA Boston that opened this past fall and may be of interest to those of you attracted to Hollywood glamour.
The MFA exhibit “Hollywood Glamour: Fashion and Jewelry from the Silver Screen” presents designer gowns and exquisite jewelry from the 1930s and ‘40s. The exhibition focuses on the iconic style of Hollywood starlets from that period, including Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich and Joan Crawford to name a few. Enjoy a glimpse of Hollywood in the Golden Age of glamour. The MFA exhibit closes Sunday, March 8, 2015.
