Cinquecento in Boston’s South End closes
At the height of the coronavirus epidemic in Massachusetts The Acquitaine Group Italian restaurant, Cinquecento, which was closed due to a statewide shutdown to flatten the curve with COVID-19 infections was flooded with approximately five feet of water from a water main break on Harrison Avenue.
Since the mid-April flood there has been a lot of activity to make the building (and surrounding buildings) habitable again but earlier this week the successful Italian restaurant with the beautiful patio announced that they will not reopen. Below is a photo of me at their Rosso Container Bar on their beautiful patio.

These two men (presumably) Jeffrion & Feilx have what we might call now, “classic all American good looks”. Althouogh this photo was taken decades ago they look like they could grace a Calvin Klein campaign today. The photo also makes me think of the dunes in Provincetown, although I have no idea when or where this photograph was taken. Anyone care to speculate?

Touko Valio LaaksonenIs is the artist who created Tom of Finland. I cannot think of a more accomplished or recognized artist from the 20th century in the LGBTQ community. His stylized and hyper masculine homoerotic art remains popular even though “Tom” passed away nearly 30 years ago.
If you’re a fan of Tom of Finland, you should definitely add this to your Instagram feed if you’ve not previously and most definitely check out the 2017 biopic Tom of Finland. It was an excellent movie about the artist and how Tom of Finland came to be.

MOD Espresso Cafe at Modern Relik in South End
Last December I first wrote about the new South End cafe, MOD Espresso, located inside the Modern Relik home design showroom located at 485 Harrison Avenue in my post, South End’s trendy Italian cafe MOD Espresso opens.
However, since I first wrote about this European-style coffee bar a lot has happened and I wanted to remind people about this great little cafe which may not be on your radar. Since reopening after the coronavirus lockdown, the cafe has updated its menu adding items like Iggy’s bagels (which yours truly just devoured) avacado toast and for those who like sweets some very tastey cookies.
At the moment MOD Espresso, is giving away their delicious cookies with the purchase of a coffee so for a little more than $2.00 you can get a great cup of coffee and a cookie (I’m partial to their oatmeal raisin).

Science doesn’t give a f*ck what you believe
Lately, public health and health policy has become politicized. There are several reasons this has happened in my opinion, but I’d rather not dwell on it and focus more on the fact that science – unlike political science – doesn’t give a [insert explative of your choosing here] what you believe.
I cannot believe that I feel compelled to write that no matter how strongly you believe in individual freedoms or conspiracy theories about wearing masks and social distancing, you are not impervious to the coronavirus. But it seems like there is a large segment of our society that has embraced the notion that if you say something often enough (no matter how wildly inaccurate) it must be true. A good example of this is President Trump’s insistance that the virus will go away if we stop testing for coronavirus.

Placing faith in political and religious leaders over the recommendations of scientists and medical professionals will not protect you, your loved ones or your communities. Following health guidelines as outlined by the medical community is both a personal and civic responsibility that supercedes personal preferences and inconveniences. To put it more simply, SCIENCE > YOUR BELIEFS.

It is a holiday weekend for most everyone in the United States so staying in bed seems like a great way enjoy your Sunday morning, and potentially a lot more fun if you have someone to share it with like these guys.
