Tonight, Boston Ballet’s 2017–2018 season opens with Obsidian Tear. The North American premiere of Wayne McGregor’s Obsidian Tear, is a co-production with The Royal Ballet of London, and a world premiere by Resident Choreographer Jorma Elo. The production has been described as a raw and powerful work for an ensemble of nine men (hear that guys, 9-men). If there was ever a ballet you might want to check out this just might be the production.

Yesterday, The Boston Globe reported here that the long dormant Colonial Theater now owned by Emerson College will reopen in June 2018 with a world-premiere musical stage adaptation of the film “Moulin Rouge”, which could go on to Broadway following its run here in Boston.
The Colonial, which closed back in October 2015, has had millions of dollars spent renovating the beautifully historic 117-year old theater; with construction expected to be done by the spring. The international producer, Ambassador Theatre Group from London entered into a long-term lease with Emerson to operate the Colonial Theatre so Bostonians can expect a full line up of excellent shows following Moulin Rouge.

I dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Do you have a photo you would like to share? Email me at bosguymail@gmail.com.
Do you love independent film? Check out the Wicked Queer, (formerly “The Boston LGBT Film Festival”) Cinema Club. This group in conjunction with ArtsEmerson meets monthly to screen LGBT film and this Friday (November 3) they meet to see, Apricot Groves.
About Apricot Groves: Aram, the Iranian Armenian youth who has immigrated to the US in childhood returns to Armenia for the first time to propose to an Armenian girlfriend Narbeh met and lived with in the US. Approximately two years after opening their doors, The Aquitaine Group’s restaurant, La Motta, on Washington Street in the South End says it will close. Marc Hurwitz writes in the blog Hidden Boston, that a Mexican eatery in Brookline called the Burro Bar will take over the space. I took a quick look at their menu and if the prices remain the same, this looks like it could be an affordable dining option with most plates ranging from $12-$16.
The Burro Bar in Brookline’s Washington Square is under the same ownership as the Painted Burro. Joe Cassinelli, who founded the Alpine Restaurant Group, also runs Posto and Rosebud in Davis Square and Osteria Posto in Waltham.
Although I hate to see restaurants close, I was never able to appreciate La Motta’s and after several disappointing tries I stopped going. I’m unfamiliar with the new owners and don’t have any details when La Motta’s will finally close and the Burro Bar will open in its place but stay tuned.
In honor of Halloween I figured I’d feature my friend Joe. This photo was taken in Provincetown just outside the Crown & Anchor’s club, Paramount. His outfit is a bit of a gay cliche but because he is so damn good looking nobody seemed to mind – least of all Joe.
Miss you out here on the East Coast Joe – come back and visit.
Are you a gay man of color looking to meet people and make friends? I wanted to let you know about a wonderful group here in Boston called the Hispanic Black Gay Coalition (HBGC).
Check out HBGC’s Gala this week on Wednesday, Nov. 1
The HBGC is one of few non-profit organizations in Boston dedicated to the unique and complex needs of the Black, Latinx, and POC (People of Color) LGBTQ community. Founded in 2009, they work to inspire and empower Latinx and Black LGBTQ individuals to improve their livelihood through activism, education, community outreach, and counseling.
Later this week the group will also be hosting their annual gala at the Oberon Theater just outside of Harvard Square. This event offers newcomers an opportunity to see this organization as it comes together to celebrate.
