Earlier this spring I wrote about a gin cocktail at Union Bar and Grille that I really enjoyed called the Caprice Cocktail. They have a summer cocktail that I recently tried that is so light and refreshing you’d think you were sitting pool or beach side while sipping it.
The vodka and combier rose cocktail is garnished with a lemon wedge and a sprig of thyme in a mason jar. It is surprisingly light and refreshing. With each sip you can smell the citrus and thyme which probably lends to the illusion that you are outside. You may want to try this and serve it at your next party – it is that addicting.
Haven’t been to Union in a while? Stop by their bar and try the Texas rose.

Starting today, marks the second annual DADDYHUNT Week in Provincetown. Last year this newly minted theme week hosted a handful of events and this year the theme week returns with more opportunities to meet and mingle. Boston Magazine’s annual Best of Boston issue is out and South End bakery, Flour, was named, Best Cookie. I thought I’d take a moment to remind everyone of the important research I conduct – like the best chocolate chip cookie tasting I hosted this past January.
According to our tasting (which focused on chocolate chip cookies only) we named The South End Buttery the winner with Flour receiving a very respectable second place.
If you are a cookie-holic you may want to check out our research, which included testing eight different cookies from South End bakeries, South End chocolate chip cookie tasting.
Tomorrow is Boston’s outdoor party in Chinatown to celebrate the end of the harvest season (A.K.A. The Chinese Moon Festival). All the fun will be centered by the Harrison / Beach Street stage, visitors can watch dancing, musicians, and martial artists. More information about Boston’s Chinese Moon Festival can be found here.
Fun fact: Did you know this festival takes place in early Autumn but in Boston we celebrate this a few weeks earlier in August because back in 1969 the city was funding cultural events that would take place in the summer; thus the Chinatown Moon Festival was born. Thanks to Boston Magazine for sharing this fun fact.

Much thanks to @onerebeldevil for sharing this earlier this week.
In the past I’ve mentioned that my parents have a lake house about 15 minutes outside of downtown Wolfboro on Lake Winnipesaukee. This past weekend Sergio and I went up to see my brother, sister-in-law and niece who were visiting from California.
My parents built this house about five years ago and earlier this year they finished the basement, adding a second family room complete with a bar. Lucky for us, our bedroom and bathroom is down there – away from the morning chaos that is inevitable when there are young nieces and nephews in the house. We spent the weekend relaxing with the entire family.
Here are a couple photos from the weekend.
Check out Steven Boyle’s video from the Penn State student poetry slam. His nearly 4 minute video about coming out at the age of 20 is touching and hilarious; part poetry and part Mad Lib.
Definitely watch this video but be careful since the language makes it inappropriate for work.
