Cafe Madeleine to open in South End

South End Boston CafeAs  rumors circulate that Peet’s Coffee will not open on Tremont Street, Cafe Madeleine announces their imminent opening on Columbus Avenue. South End residents will have noticed that the space formerly occupied by Amsterdam Cafe at 517 Columbus Avenue has recently seen new signage for Cafe Madeleine as well as a handwritten “Now Hiring” sign for Front of House positions at the soon to open cafe.

A press release distributed this week indicates that the new cafe will open before the end of the month.  I peeked into the space this weekend and the space looks very inviting with a clean ivory interior that has grey and black accents. According to the release the cafe menu will include pastries as well as a small luncheon menu including salads, sandwiches, and quiche.

Cafe Madeleine will be open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Wednesday Bear Week: Deluca Gallery and A-House

It is hump day tomorrow (not literally BTW).  Here are some possible activities you may want to consider if you are in Provincetown for Bear Week.

Deluca Gallery ProvincetownBy Day: Check out the Deluca Gallery at 432 Commercial Street. Visiting Ptown without checking out one of the many galleries here is a mistake too many people make.

The Deluca Gallery has an exhibit right now by Alexei Biryukoff that is worth seeing.

Atlantic House Ptown Bear WeekBy Night: If you are feeling a bit cheeky you may want to head over to the Atlantic House (A-House) for their weekly ‘Ass Wednesday’ contest.

In addition to great music, later in the evening they host a contest to determine who has the best butt and the winner takes home $100 in cash. Someone can earn back a weeks worth of Tea Dance cover charges just by dropping their drawers.

Dolce&Gabbana models hit on you… on helium

Watch these Dolce & Gabbana models recite corny pick-up lines after inhaling a balloon full of helium. Filmed during the preparations for the Spring Summer 2015 show the models (hairpins on their heads and all) are both handsome and funny to watch.

Temptation Tuesday

Handsome man, shirtless man, hunkI’d be smiling too if I was this good looking. What do you think?

Tuesday Bear Week: Sims and Hot Sauce

Bear Week is in full swing and while there is plenty to do here are two suggestions you may want to consider on Tuesday.

Pennsylvania State Rep, Brian SimsBy Day: Meet and hang out with the incredibly handsome Pennsylvania State Representative, Brian Sims who is hosting Afternoon of Beer and Bears from 2-4pm Details here, www.sims4pa-ptown.com.

I would be eternally grateful for anyone who can spot Brian shirtless and get a photo of him. Gawd knows I’ve scoured the Internet for such a photo but to no avail. Here are some favorite photos of Brian Sims.

Provincetown Bear WeekBy Night: Hot Sauce debut party in Provincetown at the Boatslip starts at 9PM.

The party features Rich Morel and DJ/host partner Bob Mould as well as Roddy Bottum of the bands Faith No More and Imperial Teen.

Bear Week registrants only pay $5 cover.

Realm health and fitness tips from Kyle

realm fitness tips, kyleSummer is a time for us to give our ovens a break and to fire up the barbeque. Here are some tips for making some delicious (and nutritious) summer barbeque sides, main courses, and desserts.

Sides:

Realm Health and Fitness Tips from KyleDON’T: Serve potato chips, corn chips, french fries, macaroni salad, or any other greasy and fried food products. These are high in calories, have minimal protein and nutrients, and will likely leave you feeling bloated after you eat them.

DO: Take advantage of in-season produce and go to your local farmers market and pick up some of your favorite veggies for grilling.  Season them with olive oil, garlic powder, salt, pepper and some grated Parmesan for an unforgettable side. Throw some fennel, turnip greens, chopped apples, and dried berries in a bowl with a splash of balsamic for a refreshing salad.

Main course:

Realm Health and Fitness Tips from KyleDON’T: Serve low quality or processed meat, high carb pastas, or provide buns and bread for fillers.

DO: Serve high quality red meat, chicken, ground turkey or fish. Red meat is often demonized but is high in protein and gives your body the good fats you need, it can also improve your vitamin D uptake, and is packed with B vitamins, and iron.

Deserts:

Realm Health and Fitness Tips from KyleDON’T: Serve cake, cup cakes, and pies.

DO: Get creative and natural with your desserts, try to avoid refined sugars and stay away from flour.

Make the most of the season’s fresh fruits and make a fruit tart, dark chocolate covered strawberries, or some vanilla bean ice cream mixed with berries.

Bastille Day

Bastille Day: Vive la France In lieu of my weekly “Monday Blues” post I figured I’d try something that might bring a smile to your face.  Since today is Bastille Day or as the French call it La Fête Nationale, I opted for this bit of French eye-candy.  I trust you approve.

Monday Bear Week: Beaches, kilts and a show

Tomorrow everyone who came to Ptown for the weekend will be gone but the celebrations for Bear Week will have barely started.  Here are some suggestions you may want to consider if you are in Provincetown for Bear Week.

Provincetown beachBy Day: Bears at the Beach from 11AM to 4PM.  (look for the Bear Flag).

Head to the left from the beach house, and walk along the beach (or follow the path from bike parking area on road).  Be sure to bring water, food and sun screen.   There is a shuttle from town center or you can bike to beach. The beach is free for pedestrians and bicyclists but there is a charge for parking.

provincetown bear week kilt tea danceBy Night: Kilt Bears Tea Dance from 4PM to 7PM at the Boatslip. Why not? This sounds like a blast and it makes me wish I was in Provincetown for all the fun.  After Tea Dance ends, get tickets for the Well Strung 7:30 show at the Art House at 214 Commercial Street.

Company One presents Astro Boy

Company OneCompany One is an unconventional local theater company.  Back in January 2012 they mesmerized me with their show, Green Eyes, a Tennessee Williams erotic drama originally written in the 1970s and unpublished for nearly 40 years that they staged in a suite at the Ames Hotel.

This summer they present a New England premiere, Astro Boy & The God of Comics. The show opens on Friday, July 18 and runs through Saturday, August 16th.

Buy Tickets To: Astro Boy,  July 18 thru August 16

The Company One website says the show “serves up live animation, interactive video and a 1960s dream of the future, Astro Boy – a crime fighting, sweet faced robot – and his creator, Osamu Tezuka – the real-life Father of Manga and “Walt Disney of Japan” – explore the intersection of science, art and family.
