Vintage ‘Tube
Maybe you remember this vintage clip from Miss Teen USA 2007 when Ms. South Carolina attempted but failed to answer a question pertaining to education in America.
Have a great Saturday night.
A guide for wine and food pairings
Source: Barina Craft LLC
Although I am a firm believer in people drinking what ever wine(s) they like, I also agree that guidelines can be very helpful.
If you are planning to host or have been invited to a dinner party and you know what will be served, use this as a guide for wines to serve or bring for the occasion.

Street art on Harrison Avenue
Tyson Andree is a local graffiti street artist who has turned his talents to producing fine art. Some of his new creations have been on view at the South End Adelson Gallery in Boston since early March. Although his show, The Process works on glass, closes this Sunday, April 20th, his work will continue to be on display across the street from the gallery.
Over the past couple of weeks SoWa residents may have seen Tyson painting graffiti art on the backside of EG Leon & Company’s one story commercial building at 471 Harrison Avenue. No matter what you make of Tyson Andree’s street art I’m sure everyone agrees it is a welcome addition, masking an otherwise ugly concrete one-story facade.
Marathon weekend
Its marathon weekend in Boston and because of last year’s bombings it seems like the rest of the world will turn their eyes to Boston come Monday. It feels strange not to be in the city this weekend which I would imagine is quickly filling to capacity. Typically the Boston Marathon draws more than half a million spectators and more than 25,000 runners, but this year is anything but typical. This year the Boston Marathon has an estimated 36,000 runners, and I would assume even more spectators.
If you are in town this weekend be certain to check out the Boston Marathon Sports & Fitness Expo at the Hynes Auditorium (Friday 12-7 pm; Saturday 9am – 7pm; and Sunday 9am – 6pm. Nearly every athletic, fitness and nutrition firm you can imagine sets up booths to educate and sell their products. Vendors have special sales for the expo and there are usually some pretty cool freebies.
South End rumor: Caffe Nero
Late last year it was reported that Caffe Nero – a London-based chain that operates 650 specialty coffee shops would open their first US coffee shop here in Boston’s Downtown Crossing this spring.
Rumors are now being whispered that Caffe Nero is also looking at space in the South End. If you’re a coffee lovah like me, the proliferation of coffee shops in the neighborhood is a welcome break from seeing a new bank opening every other week. I’ll circle back with more info shortly.
Things that make BosGuy go hmm…
Snow White and the 7 Bottoms opens tomorrow
Tomorrow night Ryan Landry and his Gold Dust Orphans will open with their latest production, “Snow White and the 7 Bottoms”. This fairy tale, takes you on a twisted trip that features new songs, dances, fabulous costumes and gorgeous sets. The show which opens tomorrow, Friday, April 18th will run through Sunday, May 18th before it closes and presumably reopens this summer in Provincetown so get your tickets while they last because this will definitely sell out.
Patrick’s new economic bill: NonCompetes, H-1BVisa and Liquor Licenses
Governor Deval Patrick is shaking things up with the economic bill he shared last week that aims to make doing business in Massachusetts easier.
The big headlines include his desire to eliminate noncompetes and creating a “global Entrepreneur in Residence” program to allow foreign students to work at Massachusetts start ups as a way to work around the restrictions associated with H-1B visa program.
However, I was more excited to read that Deval Patrick’s plan also give cities and towns greater control over the number liquor licenses in their communities by ending existing statutory limits. This is long overdue and I hope it is successful. Now we just need the MA Sate legislature to pass these initiatives so Patrick may sign them into law.
