Enjoy the holiday weekend

If you live in the US, you probably are looking at a long holiday weekend and with temperatures in Boston predicted to hit the high 80s on Saturday, it could well be the first beach weekend of the summer.

However you celebrate this weekend, I hope you have fun. Thank you for stopping by my little corner of the internet.

BosGuy brain teaser

riddle, exercise for your brainEach Friday morning I post a riddle to get you to think outside the box and exercise your brain. If you are stumped, share it with a friend or colleague and see if you can figure out the answer together.

I’ll confirm answers in the afternoon so don’t worry if you don’t see your comment posted right away. I want to give everyone a chance to guess.

This week’s brain teaser:

Five sisters are at home with each other.
The first sister is styling her hair.
The second sister is playing chess.
The third sister is dancing in the living room.
The fourth sister is exercising.
What is the fifth sister doing?

Vintage gay

gay history, gay couples from the pastI dedicate this weekly post, featuring vintage gay photographs, to the men and women who lived in a more critical time where being true to yourself and loving who you want wasn’t always an option and came at a great price. Do you have a photo you would like to share? Terry Miller is also known as the handsome husband of Dan Savage, but in recent years he has made a name for himself as a model; notably the Official Tom of Finland ambassador.

If you’re looking to add some more man candy to your Instagram feed, Terry is a great option. I enjoy following his account and think a lot of you may as well. The pictures are always beautifully executed.

Google+ bans me for posts of shirtless men

While many people have been banned from social media sites, this is a first for me and since there is little available to someone accused of violating posting standards, I figured I would use my blog to voice my disappointment.

Earlier today I received notice that my repeated ‘pornographic’ postings in my Gay Boston community had resulted in my temporary suspension of my Google+ account. The screen capture above shares my most recent posts and while you cannot see everything (a screen capture is only so big) anyone who visits this blog knows that while I might have some R-rated postings they are hardly pornographic.

I’m obviously irked with G+ and the failure of their artificial intelligence implemented to review such accusations. What is shown above is visible in magazines, television commercials and billboards and hardly pornographic or in violation of Google+ posting rules.

Boston Meetup: Gay Men Camping

gay boston

UPDATE: It appears this group has suddenly (and sadly) folded.

Each Tuesday I feature a different LGBTQ club or organization to help connect gay men living in the Boston area. One such group you may not know about is Boston’s Gay Men’s Camping Meetup Group. With more temperate weather in our future, I thought the time was right to give a shout out to this group.

Boston’s Gay Men Camping is an outdoor adventure group for men only. A social network for all fit and active gay men of all ages. Including singles, couples and friends who appreciate nature, love hiking, enjoy backpacking and have a passion for exploring the outdoors. The group regularly schedules weekend camping trips throughout New England, and although I’ve never joined them, they come across as quite friendly and recommend you check them out.

gay boston, gay campingIf this sounds like a group you’d enjoy, I encourage you to reach out to them by joining their Meetup group online at GayMenCamping.com and to like their Facebook page, facebook.com/GayMenCamping.

I want to feature the LGBTQ groups and organizations that help people connect and enrich Boston’s gay life. If you’d like to have your club / team featured, please email me at bosguymail@gmail.com or via FB messenger.

This June, The History Project will host tours that follow the route of Boston’s first pride march which was first held on June 26, 1971. The march focused on four oppressive institutions at the time: the police, the government, hostile bars and religious institutions. The walking tour provided by The History Project will tell the stories of services, community organizations, issues and people related to the route and Boston’s LGBTQ history.

Tours will meet on Saturday, June 2 and 16 at Jacques Cabaret (at 79 Broadway in Bay Village) at 1PM and will take approximately 90-minutes with the tour concluding on the Boston Common. To join the tour, you will need to reserve your spot in advance.
