Last week the BRA approved a new mixed use residential project that will be one of the city’s largest entirely affordable residences. The project formerly “The Merano” will be located across from North Station and the Garden. It will include 239 affordable rental units, a 220 room hotel and 220-space parking garage available to both tenants and hotel guests.
The developer also has promised to make a $500,000 contribution to design and build a new park with several hundred thousand dollars dedicated to other infrastructure improvements in the West End neighborhood. While more affordable units in Boston are needed this is great news and sounds like a wonderful opportunity for the lucky few who can score an apartment.
There is no word on when construction would begin. More details here.
The Provincetown Carnival parade is today. The above photo is from last year when the theme was Comic Book Capers; this year’s theme is “Candy Land”
Are you in Provincetown? Say hello if you see me. I’ll be doing my best with the help of Sergio to snap photographs of some of our favorite costumes from this year’s parade and the parties that follow. If you have a costume you are proud of be sure to send me a photograph at bosguymail@gmail.com.
Sergio and I are off to Provincetown to enjoy Carnival Week celebrations with friends. This year’s theme is Candyland. I’m looking forward to all the costumes and parties and will work with Sergio to pull together a video to share with you after we return from Ptown.
Below I’ve included the 2014 video we created from Carnival last year. The theme for 2014 was perhaps the best in recent memory – Comic Book Capers – enjoy the video and check back next week for my Carnival 2015 video.
Each Wednesday morning I post a photograph that gives me pause. I’ll get you started with a possible caption that hopefully inspires you to share a few of your own in the comments section below.
This is my Monday face
Dîner en Blanc has been a tradition in Paris since 1988, when Francois Pasquier invited a handful of friends to meet for dinner at the Bois de Boulogne and he asked them to wear white so it would be easy to identify each another. That dining event has grown into an international dining phenomenon, which will be returning to Boston on September 10th, but getting tickets to this event isn’t all that easy with thousands (yes you read that correctly) seeking an invite through the dinner’s Facebook page.
The event is one part dinner and one part fashion as everyone wears white from head to toe, snubbing protocol by wearing white after Labor Day. It also looks to be quite fun, judging by the photographs. According to the Boston Herald article, there are more than 1,000 people on the waiting list, but maybe you’ll get lucky. Although I focus on LGBT life in Boston, Ogunquit and Provincetown, thanks to Sergio I have a large number of readers from and in Brazil (and in particular in Belo Horizonte), so when party organizers for Di Latte asked me to help spread the word about their latest party, I was only too happy to publish this post.
If you happen to be in B.H. this coming weekend be sure to stop by and check out this party at Mix Garden. You can get more information by visiting the Facebook event page, here.
Check out the 2014 promo video from last year’s party.
I was surprised to read that it was 10 years ago this week that The 40 Year Old Virgin staring Steve Carell, Paul Rudd and others was released.
Ten years ago I was working in an office where the average age of most employees was mid-20s and this movie was talked about and quoted non-stop. I couldn’t believe it was released 10 years ago and checked with IMDB which confirmed that Carell’s surprise summer smash was released on August 19, 2005.
Here is a bit from the movie that had me in stitches when I first watched it. Mind the language if you are watching this in your office (NSFW). It is just as funny without the sound.
