LGBT community meet and greet for Ed Markey

Ed Markey for US SenateYesterday I was invited to attend a LGBT Community and Allies Meet & Greet for US Representative Ed Markey who is running in a statewide election to fill the US Senate seat vacated by Secretary of State, John Kerry. Approximately 100 supporters crammed into the backroom at Stella’s to hear what US Rep. Ed Markey had to say.

While I entered the room not particularly invested in the election and undecided, I left knowing I will vote for Ed Markey.

For those interested in this sort of thing, the Special Election primary will be on Tuesday, April 30th and the Special Election will follow on Tuesday, June 25th. I’ve included a couple of pictures that I took at the ‘meet & greet’ at Stella’s in Boston’s South End. Thank you to those nice enough to pose for a pic.Ed Markey for US Senate

France fast tracks marriage equality law

French Marriage EqualityAfter France’s Senate voted Friday to approve a law that would allow gay couples to wed and adopt, the government – in a surprising move – called for a final vote on the bill in the National Assembly by Wednesday, April 17th; more than a month ahead of schedule.  Read more here.

Thanks to Frenchie and the Yankee for the tip.

Grindr Queen by Sherry Vine

In honor of the ABBA tribute band, The Concert, playing in Boston this Sunday and because Sherry Vine is hilarious, I couldn’t help but share her latest video, GRINDR Queen.  As you’d expect, Ms. Sherry Vine’s lyrics aren’t appropriate to listen to at work or around kids, but it doesn’t take away from her humor.

Top, Versatile, Bottom by Burly Shirts

burly shirtsI stumbled upon a t-shirt maker who clearly has a good sense of humor.  The maker is called Burly Shirts, and they have a large selection of bear-themed shirts you may enjoy for yourself or as a gift.

By the way, I wear a large 😉

I see London, I see France…

underwearFor those not from the U.S. you may not be aware of the childish couplet that nearly all of us said at one point when in grade school, but I couldn’t resist the temptation after I stumbled upon this photo.

Fisting at Walmart

WalmartMethinks there is a gay merchandising executive who is laughing in his martini, telling friends about this shirt he sold to Walmart.  A Facebook buddy who lives in CT posted this image yesterday from the Walmart in East Windsor, CT.  I’m not sure if this is 100% accurate since there is clearly a 2010 date in this photograph, but it is hilarious nonetheless.

I believe what they meant to say was “Fist Bump”, although I know a few guys who might agree with this message. Perhaps if you buy the shirt you get a discount on their 48oz Crisco.

2013 June PRIDE calendar

By Connor Lassey

By Connor Lassey

As the taboo of homosexuality fades, the nature of PRIDE continues to change.  Years ago, PRIDE was the only way the LGBT community could gain visibility in the media and it became an important political tool for our community to flex our muscle and demand to be heard.

With fewer people living in the closet and LGBT communities here in the US openly embraced, PRIDE has become more of a celebration than an expression of protest.  While many communities now celebrate their PRIDE festivals in the spring and fall, June remains “PRIDE” month.  Keeping in mind that June is just seven short weeks away, I’ve included an abbreviated list of June PRIDE festivals around the world.  If your city has been overlooked, please add it in the comments section of this post.

Will you be travelling to a PRIDE event this year? If so, which one(s)?

June 7-9th: Boston – Dallas – D.C. – Detroit – LA – Philadelphia – Tel Aviv
June 14-16th: Berlin – Denver – Edinburgh – Portland (OR)
June 21-23rd: Houston – London – Toronto
June 28-30th: Barcelona – Chicago – NYC – Paris – San Francisco – Seattle

Marriage equality gives Democrats their most successful online campaign

Marriage EqualityIn the 2004 election, marriage equality advocates were on their heels after losing at the ballot box in eleven states.  At the time, only Massachusetts recognized same sex marriage and many saw these defeats as a repudiation of my state’s insistence to recognize the rights of gays and lesbians.

Fast forward less than a decade and the tide of public opinion has shifted in favor of legalizing same sex marriages.  Proof of that was the four wins in the November 2012 elections regarding same sex marriage.  Hoping to capitalize on the change of heart, the campaign arm of the House Democrats launched what has turned out to be their most successful online campaign ever.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee reports that it has seen more than 10 million views on its Facebook page and nearly half a million Facebook likes.   If you’d like to show your support on Facebook like this page.

Rub a dub dub…

rub a dub dubNot only do I approve because this helps to conserve water, but it is practical.  How else can you properly wash your back and other bits sufficiently? An extra hand is always appreciated when getting ready for a night out.

Have a great weekend.

Karmin to headline Boston Pride

Boston PrideBoston Pride announced the pop duo Karmin will be headlining the Boston Pride Festival being held on Saturday, June 8th from noon to 6pm at Boston’s City Hall Plaza.  Karmin actually formed here in Boston back in 2010 when the Amy Heidemann and Nick Noonan met at Berklee College of Music.

Out of curiosity if you are going to attend Boston’s Pride Festival, will you attend the party at Government Center? I’ve never attended, preferring the “unofficial” block party in the South End at Fritz. Although after last year’s fiasco with the drink tickets at the South End Block Party my love for that party has been somewhat tainted, hopefully they can fix that this year.

Will you go to see Karmin or attend the unofficial S.E. Block Party?

Australian Gay Rights Tribute

A touching video tribute to Australia’s fight for LGBT equality was shared this morning on Towleroad, and I wanted to pick up and pass this along.
